Character Concept

  • Seeker of answers to mysteries.
  • Anselm had been undead for almost 400 years. Much of his life was spent as a wandering mystic and philosopher. He has recently turned his attention to the more arcane arts, especially fortune-telling and personal magic. He has also recently become obsessed with collecting rare, beautiful and unusual objects and travels around Mizahar in search of them. He is not particular about how he obtains them, just so he obtains them.
  • Anselm prefers to maintain a low profile and avoids conflict whenever possible. He presents himself as a travelling fortune teller.

Physical Description

Human male in his sixties. Five feet, six inches tall, 140 pounds. Deep, raspy voice. Long stringy white hair. Gray eyes with dark shadows, deeply wrinkled face and hands. Wears a long black cloak with a black hood that hides most of his face in shadow. Nearly always wears thin black cotton gloves. Limps with left leg, uses a cane with his right hand. Sometimes repeatedly taps his cane on the floor. Sometimes raises his right hand as if dismissing you from his presence. Sometimes appears to have lost interest in the conversation and looks away or might even get up and walk away without explanation. Image

Image Svefra male in his mid-twenties. Six feet tall. 180 pounds. A nose that looks like it has been broken more than once. Splotchy, scab-covered face. Dull bluish lifeless eyes with dark shadows under them that look like a pair of black eyes. Simple white shirt, light blue pants, rust-colored leather shoes, light-weight leather gloves, large broad-brimmed straw hat. His voice is pitched a bit toward tenor with a ragged, asthmatic sound to it.

Anselm's House 


Were you to follow Anselm home some evening, you would discover that he lives in a small house on the outskirts of Zeltiva. At first sight, it would appear that the house is in some disrepair. This is because it is. Grass and weeds threaten to take over the short path leading to the only door. The roof is smothered with wet leaves that have obviously been there for a while. One of the two windows on either side of the door has been boarded up. Clearly the owner of this domicile is not particularly concerned about keeping up appearances.

Were you to walk around back, you would notice a third window and an outhouse that does not appear to have been used for a long time. Continuing on around, you would discover some firewood neatly stacked against the side of the building.

Were Anselm to invite you into his home, which is highly unlikely, you would see immediately that it is a small house indeed: a single room with a fireplace, a narrow bed, a medium-sized chest in one corner, a small wooden table and a chair that looks like it is about to collapse under its own weight. The chest is secured by an intelligent iron padlock that shakes violently if anyone tries to open it without the proper password. Inside the chest you would find Anselm's collection of rare, beautiful and unusual objects. The floor is mostly covered by a tan rug with blue swirls.

From all this evidence, you might be tempted to think that Nuits – or at least this Nuit - have relatively modest needs. And you would be right.

ImageMaster Ahn is a philosopher. He has devoted most of his life to exploring the fundamental questions of reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind and language. He looks very old, although no one seems to know how old he actually is. He is of medium height for a human, overweight and bald except for a fringe of white hair that runs from his temples down to a full, white beard. Laugh lines surround his eyes and form wrinkles across his forehead. This is a man who laughs easily and often.

No one knows where he came from, but at some point he withdrew from civilization and retreated to a cave deep in the Zastoska Mountains. A few of his disciples followed him into the mountains and built a zendo, or meditation hall, which has come to be known as Ahn's Mountain. He freely teaches all who come to him, although few do owing to the fact that the zendo is nearly inaccessible even to the very few people who know where it is.

Master Ahn's Dojo 


ImageLocated in the Zastoska Mountains is the zendo, or meditation hall, of a reclusive philosopher known as Master Ahn. It was built by a handful disciples who accompanied Master Ahn when he withdrew from civilization and retreated into the mountains to meditate. It is usually referred to as Ahn's Mountain even though it is not actually on a mountain.

Few come to this place because few know of its existence, let alone its location, and even those who do know where it is find it nearly inaccessible. But those who find their way to this hidden retreat are welcomed by Master Ahn, who freely teaches all who come to him.
