Hello everyone!~ A quick question so I can adjust my characters history and make sure everything checks out! I have read quiet a number of things on going to places; but the amount of time it takes to get somewhere seems really hard to understand. Well, least it evades me.

So then, in advance I would like to thank whoever it is that will help me. I know its a lot of math and I apologies. I tried to do it myself but it seems like an impossible task to a person who failed high-school math.

875 Miles from Taloba toward Black Rock;
Add 60 more miles for trouble and moving around things. 935
Now take some distance away from the use of horses who have a 3-8 miles walking speed. I will use 5 miles an hour.
So humans walking speed is 2.
So third of 935 is 311 miles
Add 15 for weather problems.
326 miles Add 58 for sleeping.
384 Miles, take away 34 miles since they are not actually going to Black Rock; just the coast line.
350 divided by 5; is 70 days. Two months and Ten days using 30 days of the month.

From Black Rock to the Spires is 3125
Take away 34 Miles since not at Black Rock. 3091 Miles
Now this is tricky; this part is by a large sailing boat. Since the water currents would be quiet fast and pull inland it would make good speed; it also means good wind behind them.
So I am going to say nix 750 miles since not going to the spires. (Same distance from coast to Spires and Spires to Avanthal. So 2375 miles
Now from current and wind all going toward inland which it would because of the weather differences on each side of it. I shall nix 452 miles. Which leaves 1923.
Now lots of turns so add 216 miles Low number because again a current going inland would help the boat go around it without much needed power. 2139 Miles
Now for any sort of trouble lets add 300 Miles because a lot can go wrong on a boat. So 2439 Miles
On Average a boat can go 80 miles in a day, lets up it for both wind and water current to 85 miles.
2439 divided by 85 is 28. Blah. Let’s say 30. That’s a month and seems a bit too short. So we up it to three months.

Finally it goes from coast to the Spires. 750 Miles.
Add extra weight 15 miles. 765 now
Add days to sleep or rest, 50 miles 815 miles.
So two horses at average 5 miles. 163 days. Five and a half months.
Now let’s take off half a month because they never reach the spire; so that’s 48 extra miles to carry over.

From Spire (Near) To Avanthal 750 adding the extra 48 miles; 798.
Add fifty for weather 848
Add 100 for hunting 948.
Siberian tigers have been recorded covering up to 60 km (37 miles) per day; so this would take him 948 divided by 37 is 25.6 so 26 days.
There are 3 weeks in 26 days so nix thirty miles away from hunting. 818.
So 818 divided by 37 is 22.1 So 22 days.
Finally let’s cut off a day since he collapses near but not at the city. 21 days.

Final tally of doom!
2 months 10 days
3 months
5 months
21 days.

11 Months and a day. That seems short. Dang but I hate math.
Let’s keep the walking distance to 21 days but for all that travel let’s make it all sum up to three years and a half; or should it be shorter or longer?

-Slams head- Took me an hour to do that math.

First off, Syka is only recently being re-established in game.

Beforehand, it was simply ruins...so I'm not sure many, if any ships would actually be there to pick you up.

Not sure on the distance measurements otherwise, but I felt I should let you know about Syka first off :P

This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!

Special shoutout to Fallon for my new CS

Thank you for telling me and that was what I was banking on. I only used it for a focal point since you can see where it is on the map. In my characters history I plan on it being that it is in ruin, and the ship waiting there is not a documented and city run ship but a slavers ship; holding to the ruins because they are just that. No one would think to go there then see a large ship so its presence wouldn't raise any flags.

(( Edited, sorry bad grammar. ))

I only have a few minutes left on my break but I wanted to throw this out there. I wouldnt use Syka for anything in a character history since the city and/or ruins are thus far unknown outside the quest being done on its discovery. Also for the travel speed, with my own characters, I always use average human walking speed of 2.8 mph when trying to determine how fast on can travel. From there I figure in average weather, natural obstacles such as hills, mountains, forests, etc. Lack of established well kept roads also plays a factor. Chances are that the actual walking speed would average out to be half the 2.8 mph or worse.

Okay, well then I shall fix that. It was more a place near the water that I needed and could point at on the map and say there is where they are going. As for the speed, well I don't know the distance even between one area to the next. I couldn't find that information so even that wouldn't help me. A horse even at a steady walk would be a lot faster than a human; as would a ship; so that speeds things up.

I will make a small note in the starting post that it is the area close or around Syka as its just the coast that I need. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

:All edited, this travel path will take less time I hope; and be less confusing!

If it's distances you need, you should look at the Distance Chart in the wiki. It gives the straight line distances between various places, and should be a starting point for your calculations.

Of course, as Gillar mentioned, travel time is dependant on more things then just straight distance. It's difficult to travel in straight lines, the lack of roads and the general danger outside civilized area's slow things down further, etcetera. So I can't help you with solid numbers, but hopefully have given you a starting point to base your estimates on.

Oh! I am so sorry. 0-0 I did not know there was a wiki; and I did not see that information. I feel rather silly now. Thank you Hornet!

In addition, with the jungles of Falyndar being so thick and heavy with predators, I doubt you can get a team or horses pulling a huge animal cage through the jungles there.

Ah, you are right. Darn I forgot to think of the terrain of the jungles. Hmm; well then I do believe three years would be a good travel time with all of that. That gives wiggle room for many things to have been able to go wrong from weather to food shortage and terrain. -Hums- I need to start fixing his history for all of this and the new details.

Thanks Goss; would never have remembered the jungles!
