Clarification on killing another PC

Postby Alric Wilmot on October 6th, 2013, 8:45 pm

I was reading the Grading guide, and noticed this phrase here.

No matter what the skill level, a PC may not outright kill another PC without their express permission, preferably stated in an OOC box in the thread for the grader to verify.

Now, While this seems only fair, It also seems to contradict the sentiment in the Player Versus Player guide. Where it makes a point of having a Mod oversee a godmodded thread. If the outcome is predetermined, I question why godmodding would even come up. It seemed like, in the PvP guide, that two players who wanted to kill each other, agreed that their character might die, but also that the outcome was undetermined. As such they needed supervision to keep things fair.

In terms of PvP, if both characters are in agreement and don’t have any issues roleplaying out a fight in which there is a potential for a character to get hurt then no moderator is needed. If there is a potential for a fight to escalate into a death scene where one or more characters are killed, then a storyteller’s presence in the thread is required. Threads don’t have to have moderation from the beginning to escalate into a death scene where suddenly a moderator’s presence is required. A player can request a moderator at any time during the scene and have one jump into the thread.

If the fight is not mutually agreed upon, for instance Player A believe some insult has occurred from Player B, or if during a mutually agreed upon fight, Player A feels Player B is God Modding, then either player can ask for Moderator Intervention. If Moderator Intervention is called upon before a PvP fight continues further, the Player will post his attack using the Rules below for the attack. He/she will then let the opposing player know what his/her intentions are for ending the fight. It can be from anything like a broken nose, or death of the character. If Moderator Intervention is called upon in a Mutually agreed upon fight, the Moderator will go in delete the last combat round and all injuries sustained up to that point will be considered fair. After the combat round has been deleted, everyone involved will be to post following the rules below and after reinstating their intentions of physical harm to their opponents.

If I have read the PvP guide incorrectly, it would be very much appreciated if this was pointed out. Otherwise, shouldn't the wording in the Grading Guide be changed to better reflect what is allowed?

Clarification on killing another PC

Well, do keep in mind that the threads talked about in the Grading Guide are threads TURNED IN for grading, whereas with the PvP guide it talks about the rules and etiquette. The two different guides are for different scenes. One, the grading guide, is for grading threads already 'done'. The other, the PvP guide, talks about PvP where the thread is still going on. If death isnt agreed upon aand a moderator is called upon to intervene, then he/she probably grade the thread him/herself upon conclusion... At least that is what I do.

Nevertheless I added a statement to the grading guide to clarify the confusion, "For more information about PvP please view the Player vs. Player Guide".

12 hour shifts have started, and Im working 6-7 days a week mandatory overtime. My replies will be slow until I can adjust to this new groove.
