More Charoda Questions

Postby Phyolea on October 19th, 2013, 9:44 pm

I have come across several questions while playing my character. I hope to find answers for them someday. Here are some of them:

Land dwellers eat plants of the sea such as kelp. Does this mean Charodae (who are inherently sea creatures) can eat land grown vegetables?

How does rain affect a Charoda? Does it enable him/her to stay on land longer?

Is there an official consensus for how long a Charoda can stay on land?

When dwelling in inns, dorms, or other land dwellings can Charodae request large bins filled with water to sleep in so they don't risk dying in their sleep? What about long term land dwellings? Not everyplace has accomodations like The Blue Gem...

That's it for now. These are my primary questions.

I'll answer from what I found already around the forum but I'm sure someone else would know more. I'll also link in case you wanted the threads for reference :D

1.) No idea but I would assume they could eat land food because it doesn't explicitly state otherwise in their wiki, just that they can't eat meat. But I'm not certain.

2.) This kind of goes with number three but I assume it would allow them to stay longer because it keeps them moist. But it wouldn't be a permanent thing as far as I could infer from the wiki.

3.) I refer you to this thread but from what I gather if there isn't a close supply of water or they go inland too far they will die. And from what I can see there is no solid census of this but you can likely run specific times through a story teller but I suppose it would be a judgement call for you to use. Think of how long a beached whale could survive is what I would think would be closest. Reference

Ah, the discussion thread you've linked helps! Thank you!

I would make a character call, but some of these seem as if they need to be approved by an ST before I take action. I hope an ST can weigh in on this if possible.

Sosicly pretty much has all the answers in the bag

So yes Chaorda can eat land veggies, and no they would not allow them to stay out of the water longer, yes being in the rain would mean longer time periods without submerging themselves, but it doesn't act as a direct replacement for being submerged (unless you're caught in something like a summer monsoon in Falyndar).

As for accommodations, the best thing for a Charoda is a source of fresh water, whether it be salt or not doesn't matter. Sleeping in a big bathtub or pool will hold them over, but it's probably not ideal for long periods of time. To be more specific let's say your Charoda is in Syliras, trading wares or whatnot, has to stay at an average inn, but sleeps in a big tub filled with water, re-filled every day. The longer your Charoda has to rely on that source of water the less time they're going to be able to stay out of water, and the less its going comfort them. I'd say a week tops (and at the end of that week you would be seriously worn out and needing your water) in a big city like that without finding a fresh source of water to spend time in. So obviously places like Mura who have an abundance of locales partially submerged, or cities like Riverfall with easy access to water are prime places for a Charoda to settle in outside of Charbosi. Alternatives to places with easy water access could be places with natural springs.

But these are details best to work out with a local ST, they'd be the expert in their particular little hot spot and can work stuff out with you as far as lodging if there isn't easy access.
