It's my understanding that Kelvics are primarily animals. Animals that have a unique ablility over other animals - that they can transform into humans. The only thing that changes when they transform is their biological make up. f
For example, their vocal-auditory apparatus, thus giving them the ability to actually form the sounds required to make comprehensible utterances. The mind, however, does not change, and, even in animal form, they are able to hear and understand words, just not replicate them. So, unless your character has had NO interaction with humans, your character can theoretically boast a fluent language. If there is no interaction (and I literally mean zero), then you're kinda screwed, as, for Kelvics, seeing as they age fast, that 1-2 year spread is vital to the learning of a language, even in a fantasy world. The "Critical-Period" in which one must learn a language sorta happens in the roundabout period you're talking about your character being collared in. So... unless Kelvics defy science (and I doubt they do, seeing as they don't learn very fast anyway), your character would have no grammar to speak of and would be mentally incapable of learning any grammatical words. Her speech would be limited to 'eat food', which would cover all manner of things, from what she had eaten yesterday, what she is eating currently, what she wants to eat, and what she will eat in a year's time.
If you're planning on the character being isolated.. I'd seriously think about the consequences. Yes, it would be fascinating, but it would get dull pretty fast. Because, without grammar, she would have no concept of abstraction, so she wouldn't understand the past or the future, or that anything happens outside what she can see. She might even literally think that people didn't exist if they were in her line of sight. She wouldn't understand, or ever be able to understand, anything other than concrete objects, such as chairs and tables etc. No happiness, no sadness, She'd feel it, but would not be able to put such a thing into words.
so there needs to be interaction with humans who speak around her. But then again... I'm going from the perspective of a pure human, in our world.. Mizahar might be different from our world, and Kelvics might be different from humans. but, until I'm told otherwise, I'm going to continue following my studies when it comes to the learning of language!
As to personality, well, like I said, they're animals. Even if she could change at will, she would still constantly have animalistic characteristics. Such as... well if a Kelvic's animal form is a predator, seeing a small mouse might make the pupils dilate, or she would stare at it, unmoving. A deer, as prey, might be very twitchy and flighty in human form, always searching for danger.
Yes, she might be a little bit more feral than other Kelvics, and she might not no how to use a knife and fork, but she can learn. At least, my character did. you just gotta remember that, if you're starting out with Resuna being 2, straight after she is uncollared, she is going to be very ignorant of how do do things, even maybe things like dressing herself. Things we take for granted, she will need to be taught. I have to admit, with Kalina, it's the most fun I've ever had with a character, watching her try to understand the concept of money... things like that I'd recommend it to anyone.
Anyway.. yeah, keep some form of human interaction, make your life a little bit easier, and good luck, I think it's a really cool idea, to have a Kelvic collared so long, and I wonder if she'd be traumatised or anything... the world is your oyster, as they say!
