Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Postby Amora Jade on August 12th, 2013, 12:22 am

Amora took a seat across the table from Gauge, trying to keep her distance. Everything about him so far made her fearful of what might happen to her, but maybe she could weasel her way out of it somehow.

A laugh seemed to sneak up on her when he made the comment, "...or do you just make a habit of getting your head chopped off?" It was almost exactly what she did, constantly getting caught stealing from someone she couldn't defend herself against.

"No, I try not to get myself in those situations believe it or not." After taking a large drink of the ale she spoke again, "I just have bad luck. I say the wrong things to the wrong people and get myself in trouble." Hopefully her lie would suffice, it wasn't like she was just going to out-right tell him she was a thief, that's something she liked to keep quiet for success.

OOCSorry for the delay, it's been stressful these last few days.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Gauge sat quietly as he listened to Jade's response, acknowledging her with a simple nod. He really didn't care what she did to get into that mess, but he had to pretend to care. Sure, he could force her into doing whatever he wanted, but it wasn't part of this game he was playing. Jade wasn't like most of the women Gauge got "acquainted" with. No.. She was different, and he was going to have her walk into his cage on her own.

Gauge gave her the most sincere smile he could muster. "Well, lucky for you I came along when I did." Pausing thoughtfully for a moment, Gauge continued, "I find it hard to believe any man would get upset, let alone hurt, a little beautiful lass, such as yourself." Lies. He could lie through his teeth better than he could admit to the truth. He honestly wanted to just slam her head right into the table edge, drag her into another room by her hair, kicking and screaming. Despite his many attempts at masking it, it was clear in his eyes, if one were to look hard enough.

"You know.. You probably wouldn't find yourself in those situations if you had a man around to protect you." Gauge slid his hand over the table to touch hers. "I know you're probably upset with the fact that I hadn't killed the old fool. But next time that happens, the corpse I make for you won't be recognizable by his own kin." If all went according to plan, this lass would perhaps believe he had the devil-may-care attitude, not to her knowledge, that all it ever could be was 'devil' itself.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Postby Amora Jade on August 15th, 2013, 2:48 am

The loud thumping of her heart flooded her ears as she listened, making it a bit more difficult for her to hear and causing her nerves to rave. Bad luck seemed to follow her like a plague and infect everything she did. Her simple little actions caused her to fall into deep trouble like this a little too often.

An icy chill shot through her spine as soon as he touched her. Something about him was very off and it made her want to get up and run out of the tavern, never to look back. Still, the compliments made her blush. It was something she couldn't control no matter how hard she tried. Not being used to gentle flirting caused her to become even more nervous.

Thoughts that maybe she judged him wrong began to form. Maybe he was just a bit drunk and was in actuality a much more gentle person than he let on. At least, that's what she began to think until he continued talking.

"Actually, in contrary to your belief, I don't like seeing death.." She talked gently, trying not to cause any rage. "I was impressed by the fact that you didn't kill him." It was true, most people were very relentless at all times in this city. It was nice to see someone hold back when they so obviously had the upper hand. That didn't make her want to sit there any longer though, especially due to the look he was giving her. Almost like she was his prey, it frightened her.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Postby Gauge Barlow on January 28th, 2014, 7:05 pm

Gauge leaned back in his chair, his eyes locked onto the young woman siting to the oposite of him after noticing her unease. The man sniffed and shruged, trying to play off that letting the man go was his goal all along "Well, s'times things just happen. I'm not one for letting people off the hook after drawing a blade on a woman who's bad on her luck with words, but mercy is needed from time't time." Gauge lifted his new bottle to his lips with a half smirk forming a the corner of his mouth, tilting it up and letting the cheap drink fuel his inhibition. He drank most of it in that moment and let the bottom of the bottle hit with a hard thud as he placed it back on the table. The chattering in the tavern picked up in volume as more scummy people entered and sat amongst there friends, Gauge motioned to the young woman's drink "Not thirsty? Its on me so don't be shy.. Its hot, and after what just happened it'll do ya good."
Kicking his feet up on the table he eyed the woman from head to waist and wetted his lips "I'll tell you what Jade.. You spend some more time with me and ill show you a thing or two about dealing with situations like earlier" raising his bruised hand he winks at the girl. It wasn't something he was willing to put effort into wholeheartedly, maybe if he made her think she was capable of defending herself she would be more inclined to spend time with him, and depend on him. Gauge watch's Jade with still, unblinking eyes waiting to see her immediate reaction to his proposal.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Postby Amora Jade on January 29th, 2014, 3:04 am

"Maybe I can just run outta here real quick. How fast can he be really? I've had to run from people my whole life I'm sure this won't be any different.."

Thud! The sound of the glass bottle against the wood made Amora jump a bit and forced her out of her thoughts. She knew she wouldn't actually run, her fear kept her stiff in the chair. The drink sitting on the table tempted her. Maybe the alcohol would give her the courage she needed to leave.

She picked up the cold bottle and filled her mouth with the warm liquid that was all-so-familiar to her. A bit of relief replaced some of the uneasy feeling she had, making it easier for her to think and keep calm. The sight of the bottom of his shoes was the first she saw after dropping the bottle from her mouth.

"Rude.."

Sure, she wan't one necessarily for manners, but feet on the table is just gross.

After assessing his offer for no more than two blinks she had already come up with an answer. There was no way in hell she was going to agree to be around him willingly, but she couldn't let him know that.

"Actually.. that sounds like a good idea. I do need help learning to protect myself better and it's pretty obvious you know how to handle yourself." Amora smiled at him lightly and shrugged as she leaned back in her chair to try and mimic him a bit to seem as calm and collected as he was, "But I can't today.. I have to help my mom out with something at home, she should be back from work by now."

Maybe that'd be a good enough excuse to "reschedule" their little training session.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

Postby Gauge Barlow on February 8th, 2014, 7:53 pm

Gauge watched the girl intently, like how a predator watches its prey from the bushes before it pounces. His calm demeanor betrayed his nature as he watched the young woman drink. Listening to her words he nodded as a smirk formed on his lips "Sounds like you and your ma' are close.. Why don't I give you a hand, after all, no point in letting a pretty girl like you do anything to strenuous." The man finished his drink and rubbed his grimy arm over his mouth, tossing the bottle over his shoulder. The faint sound of glass shattering could be heard over the commotion in the bar, he dropped his feet from the bar and rose to a standing position. With a stretch he looked down at Jade "No need to worry about it today, ill give you and your old mother a helping hand." he spoke as he snorted at the end of the sentence "Just let me take care of some business i have behind the bar and ill walk you home. Shoulde't be but a minute, so don't go wondering off. S'not safe." at that he quickly made his way through the drunken crowed, to the back exit of the establishment. The heat outside was much less, and the buildings offered his eyes protection from the suns blinding light. With a slight stumble he made hi way to the side and unzipped his pants, and took a long moment of relief, using one arm to hold himself up on the building. What a lucky day, he kept thinking to himself as he finished his business and slowly made his way back into the filthy bar.

Underestimated Target (Gauge Barlow)

His motion to offer his help with the made-up project Amora tried to use as an excuse to get away caught her by surprise. It began to make her nervous because she knew there would be no running if she let him follow her out of the bar, and there was no way she was going to let him see where she lived or her mother’s face.

The girl began to chew her lip as she tried to plan out another lie in her head, but the plot was cut short by the sharp sound of glass shattering. It forced her to flinch, an uncalled for reflex she tried to cover up by bringing the drink to her mouth once more.

“...so don’t go wandering off..” The man said as he made his way behind the bar and out of sight.

Yeah right..” Amora took the perfect opportunity to sprint out of the tavern and far out of sight, but not before she grabbed her drink.
