(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role play forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)
This is the first step to starting a lore article. Please hold all conversations about lores here in this forum. No development takes place here ie Article posting. This forum is simply for threads that want to hash out what a lore should or shouldn't include as well as its merits and flaws. One can also gauge interest in new lore here as well. Polls are encouraged.
So I believe that I sent you three contact requests on Skype and added yall to the current Skype group (Wasn't certain how to add people to the group who were not on my contact list so >_<) The only problem with it is that Isaac's computer and Skype do not get along, so we also have an AIM group with me, Isaac and Vanari as well so that Isaac can be kept in the loop.
Hey! I'm pumped to hear that this is happening. I was just wondering though, will we get moderator approval to add these to the lore eventually? I wouldn't mind just using them for IC purposes (Cal needs new songs) but it would be cool to really contribute. Anyway, here's my bit.
PC Name: Calters (just Cal is fine too) Want to write lyrics?: Sure Can you sing?: A little, but only in the alto/counter-alto range Can you read sheet music?: Yes! Can you play instruments?: Yes! I have played and own the following- -piano (10 years) -trombone (5 years) -harmonica (2 years but a long time ago so I'm rusty) -ocarina (about a month) -drum kit (self-taught for about a year) -acoustic guitar that I own but have no clue how to play and of course, the lonely recorder that everyone learns in elementary school. Can you compose?: If I hope, wish, and pray really hard then sometimes. Do you want to do administrative stuff?: No What's your desired commitment level?: Depends on what's being done. Probably medium.
I have standard recording equipment which includes a standing mic, various amps and pedals to go with the electronic instruments, a computer program to edit it all, etc. If you were wondering, yes. My house does often sound like Rhaus barfed on it. ^^ My skype is Bookworm.42 (because I'm a nerd). I also have AIM and it is linked over to the left I believe. Let me know when something gets going if I don't contact you all first!
This project looks a bit dead-ish, but I would like to sign up anyway
PC Name: Timothy Mered Want to write lyrics?: No. Can you sing?: Nope. Can you read sheet music?: Yes, I am not that fast though. Can you play instruments?: Piano. Can you compose?: Yes Do you want to do administrative stuff?: No. What's your desired commitment level?: Medium.
The vibe I am getting is that this project is mostly about creating lyrical songs. I am not sure if I am much use in that regard. Whenever I do compose, I compose orchestral music. Check the sample below for a Miz theme I made just today! (I made it for this thread tbh xD)
It would be sad for this to die. This thread already showcases quite a bit of talent that just needs to be compiled. Also, there's also the straggling pages of songs (like Wind Reach songs and Ravok songs). There are so many song lyrics within the site scattered through journals, blogs, and threads.
PC Name: Phyolea Want to write lyrics?: Yes, though I prefer to just sing lyrics. Can you sing?: Somewhat. Can you read sheet music?: No. (Well I can, but at an extremely basic level.) Can you play instruments?: No. Can you compose?: No. Do you want to do administrative stuff?: Not sure what this means... I can help with data compilation and song creation. What's your desired commitment level?: Medium.
We need a centralized database of sorts. I'm currently short on long term ideas since I still have questions on what can be ultimately allowed for publication in the wiki.
I will just drop in briefly to say: if someone (or several someones) is currently heading up this development and will commit to steering it through the review process, there's no reason we can't incorporate at least some of it into the lore. It's not entirely clear to me what the final intent of this 'project' is, but more songs and song pages could well be a feasible addition. I would be happy to discuss whatever questions you have.
I can't speak for the original poster, but I believe her desires are similar to my own. So I will speak for myself, based on how I see the initial project.
The project is two-fold. One involves a lore update. This would bring all of the existing song pages to be linked under one primary music (or song) category. This new category would also allow more music-specific things to be added in the future.
The other is a centralized location for both the creation of Mizahar music and the compilation of existing data so that there is a central reference point as well as a place to draw information that may be added to the wiki. This allows for easier collaborations and creativity similar to the Aesthetics & Design forum.
This project formerly tried to use a centralized location outside of Mizahar. However, the medium was not best for this project. Here are some of the challenges that appear to have come up:
The medium was not accessible to all players. (In this case it was Skype.) Therefore, it could not extend to all of Mizahar.
The medium did not present a convenient way to pass on leadership. This is sometimes essential for keeping a project alive for the times when our humanity require us to tend to other things.
The medium was unknown to many of the other players. This would make an unbiased compliation of wiki data difficult.
My proposal is that we have a new Consortia subforum under the Character Groups and Organizations category. I am willing to help maintain it. I would like to extend the invitation to everyone in this thread who previously said they were willing to do administrative tasks. I can write the blurb for the Consortia Forum Masterlist. If I become moderator, I can also craft the content threads and help to maintain them. But before that, it is necessary for me to gauge interest. The forum must have at least five active members.
Does this sound like a viable proposal? To be clear: I am suggesting both the wiki expansion and the Consortia subforum. The content for the wiki would be compiled and maintained in the Consortia subforum.
The Consortia forum is for coordinating IC groups. This project is an OOC group doing lore development. All related activity belongs here in the World Development forum.
I don't see this project getting a dedicated subforum. In the current discussion, I see a lot of 'this would be fun and cool' without a clear plan. The original poster made a general call that amounts to "lets make lots of music clips and things", with no evident attempt to structure that development according to the lore creation protocol. In order to be added to the lore, this project must follow the same process as every other article being contributed.
Whoever is going to run this project, I think -- perhaps you? -- needs to go back to the drawing board and re-cast their plans with the lore creation guidelines in mind. Determine what specific articles will be created. A Syliras song page? A Charoda song page? Articles on instruments? Articles on music styles? Then direct and coordinate the volunteers into systematically composing those articles.
There can be multiple authors on any one proposal, and each proposed article will have a Workshop thread those authors can use for coordinating and drafting, as well as any Discussion threads they see fit to open to the rest of the playerbase. All threads in these forums are viewable by everyone, so that would take care of many of the visibility and accessibility problems you mention. And if any project in the Workshop is abandoned, it will go on the Abandoned Article list and be available for someone else to pick up later.
Comparatively, reorganizing the wiki to centralize these lores is a relatively small matter. I would be happy to prioritize that if there gets to being a good bit of music-related development.
I was trying to clarify that the wiki and the area in the Consortia are two different projects, but I muddled everything with my last sentence. Also, I misunderstood the intention behind this sentence in the Consortia lore: "While all Consortia pages are OOC, many may contain threads of IC information."
