Alex strolled lazily through the busy streets of Syliras, barely making good use of what little free time he could get. He took it as another opportunity to wear his usual darker clothing over his thin build. Once again, he went without his black fedora and instead let his shaggy brown hair flow freely. Even though he would much rather lay around in the squire dorms, Ser Ranqor had suggested that it would be healthy for him to get out and breathe in some fresh air. Much to his own dismay, the boy couldn't help but agree. After all, it could get fairly cramped. And with a shykeload of rowdy teenagers, it wasn't always a very peaceful environment...

Being lost in his own thoughts, he lost track of where he was walking and accidently bumped into a wandering pedestrian. The older man gave him a nasty look, before continuing on with his business after muttering a subtle, "Watch where you're going, boy."

Alex mumbled a half-hearted apology and focused more on the path he was walking. Syliras was a busy city, and walking the streets, one could easily get lost. He was lucky he knew the streets of the city as well as he did, or else he would spend most of his free time trying to retrace his steps.

Straying towards the homes, it was then that he saw her. A girl who looked around his age with smooth, flowing golden hair seemed to be focused on a drawing she was working on. Alex normally left people to their own business and kept to himself, but there was something about the girl that intrigued him. As silently and carefully as he could he approached.

"H-hey... Uh... What are you drawing?" He asked shyly, hoping he wasn't interrupting her.

Crossing of Paths

Amelie

Amelie was enjoying another day out. Some friend of her mother's was at home and she didn't fancy speaking to her and didn't like it when the woman tried to make her speak. Her parents had been preoccupied lately, so when she asked what she could do her mother only said, Draw something. So, she had got her drawing pad and pencils and went to find something to draw. She didn't fancy talking to anyone so she kept to the backstreets until she had passed where the children play, then came out into another part of the city.

She had found her drawing subject, a few houses, that from her angle looked a little cramped. She found a seat and started to draw.

She had only drawn one house when someone a guy, bump into an old man and mutter an apology. He looked like he was lost in his thoughts and thought he would just pass her, like everyone else. So she dropped her gaze and carries on drawing.

Then she heard him approach and stop. She looked up.

"A house." She didn't talk much to strangers, but strangely he didn't feel like a stranger. She had never met him so he new. She didn't talk much to new people.

Alexander Ross

When the girl looked up at him, Alex froze upon seeing her face for the first time. He was completely taken aback by her beauty, and it took nearly every ounce of his will power to keep his face from blushing crimson red. He had no idea why he suddenly felt more nervous than he had before. Usually, upon meeting particularly beautiful women, the only thing that showed was his awkwardness around people in general. But for some reason, it was completely different this time.

Frustrated with himself, the boy blinked and tried to keep his thoughts intact. Come on, get it together, you idiot. It's not like you haven't spoken to girls before... He scolded himself in the privacy of his own thoughts. As usual, he felt as if he were being watched and examined, his every movement and spoken word being judged. It made him feel very uneasy, much more than he was used to.

He quickly wracked his brain for something to say, worried that he would faint from nervousness. Despite the nippy, early Spring air, he began to feel uncomfortably hot underneath his clothing. Noticing this, he realized he had failed to keep himself from blushing, which nearly killed his confidence.

Acting quickly, he replied. "A house? That's pretty neat. Do... do you mind if I see it?"

Dammit, you fool! Is that the best you can come up with? What's wrong with you?! He scolded himself yet again. Of course, even though it wasn't the best thing to say, it was a lot better than standing there and babbling like an idiot. He just hoped that he wasn't intruding on the girl's privacy.

Amelie smiled a little at the guy's nervousness. She had to admit he looked not too bad himself. She liked his shaggy hair and even though she wasn't a fan of dark of black clothes they suited him.

He looks good looking... She thought then snapped out of it.

She looked the guy up and down then turned around her sketch pad. In f it wasn't for rubber markings or the slight smudges, anyone would think she had taken a picture of the house. The picture looked 3D due to the shading and it had everything the real house had; all the little cracks and the texture of the walls down to the stains and imperfections of the windows.

"I draw when I'm alone or away from the others." Amelie said. "I like to immortalise houses and animals in drawings... In a way." She flicked her hair out of her face. "Do you draw?"

She still has that strange feeling that she should know him, or something but she couldn't put a finger on it.

When she turned her sketch pad around to show him, Alex was surprised at how detailed and strangely three-dimensional the drawing was, aside from a few smudge marks provided by the eraser. He glanced back at the house she was sketching, and then back at the drawing.

Amazing... she got almost every detail... He thought curiously, barely able to take his eyes off the drawing. The drawing did indeed seem immortalized, just as she had said. He wasn't one to stare at drawings for too long, but it was strange how just one of her drawings of something as simple as a house could intrigue him so much.

"Do you draw?" She suddenly asked, snapping him out of his demeanor.

Come on, get ahold of yourself... He continued to scold himself, before shaking his head.

"Sadly, I don't. I've tried it in the past, but it turns out it's not really something I'm good at..." He replied, thinking back to the crude, childish drawings he made up in his younger years, which were only acknowledged by looks of disgust by his mother.

"I draw when I'm alone or away from the others." This echoed in his mind, and he took it as a kind of hint that she wanted to remain alone.
"Oh, sorry. I'm not bothering you, am I?" He asked, his nervousness returning.

Amelie

Amelie smiled. "No-one really compliments them anymore. It's just something I do and no-one notices." She carried on finishing off the first house then swiped away the pencil rubbings and put her pad and pencil in her bag. She brought her leg up on the rock she was sitting on and looked through her bag and brought a brush and a mirror and combed through her hair.

"So what's your name?" She looked up at him. "I'm Amelie." She stared unblinking at the guy for a while, then sighed and went back to brushing her hair. That feeling wouldn't go away.

How do I know him? This is bugging me and he will probably think I'm weird or something if I ask him. I've never met him before! Amelie said to herself in her head, frowning slightly and not knowing it.

"No-one really compliments them anymore. It's just something I do and no-one notices."

How can anyone just ignore a talent like this? Alex thought with a pang of frustration and disbelief. And as he thought more about it, he even thought he could uncover a hint of envy hidden deep within his other bottled-up emotions. It was hard to believe that someone could look at such a well-drawn picture and just disregard it as some childish hobby.

"It's... really good. And no one notices this? Something like this can make you famous, and even get you a job." He replied. His mind traced back to Sayana's New Year's party. In his opinion, the party was not all that great. Sure, there were a few people announcing their soon-to-be parenthood and a few others having fun getting drunk off their asses... which Alex took no part in. But there was also a lot of tension, drama, and the escape of an assassin who had attended the festivities. If this girl had been there and gotten a good look at the man's face, she may have been able to draw a portrait for the order to post wanted signs...

He sighed, deciding that there was nothing that could be done about it now. He focused his attention back to the conversation at hand to find the girl staring at him. He stared back for a moment, her icy blue eyes seeming to hypnotize him, staring deep into his soul. He began to feel nervous, wondering what she would say next. It was then that Alex realized that Amelie had asked for his name.

Oh! Sorry... He said, and immediately began blushing furiously. "Alexander Ross. You can just call me 'Alex' or 'Ross' if you'd like. I'd imagine that saying 'Alexander' every time would be a bit of a mouthful..." He replied with a light chuckle. He didn't know why, but he felt as if he should know this girl...
"Amelie, huh? That's a pretty name." He said, adjusting his glasses.

Amelie

Amelie shrugged. "Thanks. But I don't want to get famous or have a job. I like doing my own thing, when I want to." She put her brush and mirror away. "Thanks! That's very nice my mother picked it."

Amelie smiles a bit. "I like Ross. I think I think I had a friend called Ross. Your lucky; I don't speak much and usually just completely ignore people or be annoying until they leave."

Amelie smiles again. "You look... cute, if you don't mind me saying, when you blush. I see you get embarrassed easily." She looked down at her jumper and picked at stray thread. She debated whether or not to ask him if she had met him before, even though she knew she hadn't. The stupid I-Know-You feeling grew more intense the more she thought about it.

"Thanks. But I don't want to get famous or have a job. I like doing my own thing, when I want to."

"Yeah, I can understand that..." Alex nodded at this. It was almost the exact same way he was; doing his own thing whenever he saw fit. It surely took away the stress of so much responsibility weighing down on his shoulders. Of course, being a squire, there was always something to do, always something or someone that required his attention. That's why he was finally able to take some time off.

"I like Ross. I think I think I had a friend called Ross. Your lucky; I don't speak much and usually just completely ignore people or be annoying until they leave."

Alex chuckled at this. "Yeah, I guess I am lucky. I'm the exact same way. I'm pretty antisocial..."

"You look... cute, if you don't mind me saying, when you blush. I see you get embarrassed easily."

At this, Alex froze. "Um... yeah... I do..." He replied, his face once again growing uncomfortably hot. He could imagine that his face would be as red as a tomato right then. He laughed nervously. "If... um... If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you were trying to make me blush even more..." He said, scratching the back of his neck.
"I've never failed anyone, because there isn't anyone in my life who I can make proud."

"Yeah, I can understand that."

"I never speak to anyone except my mother. Any of her friends that she brings that tries to get me to talk but I just stay silent. Mother is worried for no reason." Amelie gets off the rock.

She hadn't been speaking much since she was very young; she want one of the more confident children when she was growing up and so she preferred to stay quiet while everyone else had their own conversations and the children squeals and screamed. Her mother had noticed early on and before then Amelie had been completely silent not even talking to her mom then she spoke. First it was one word answers then gradually she started saying more and more.

But still her mother wanted her speaking with other children or her friends.

"Yeah, I guess I am lucky. I'm the exact same way. I'm pretty antisocial..."

"So am I. I don't see the point in socializing. But with you I don't mind." Amelie smiled a little. She giggled a little when Ross when deep red.

"Um... yeah... I do... If... um... If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you were trying to make me blush even more..."

Amelie smiled and shrugged a little.

"Maybe. Would you like to come to my apartment?"
