Sahova is popular for being a magical research facility. One of its tallest inner structures is the Gug Andjak, but the rest of the research laboratory is actually underground. Most of the Nuits stay here, working endlessly without any need to leave their workstations. Each floor in the upper areas have the same layout, with common laboratories and workshops, private laboratories, classrooms and lecture halls. There is a steady supply of common items, materials, and equipment for project research and development, which is provided for the wizards, free of charge. Almost all kinds of raw materials in Sahova is free, but there is a need to file a request at the Synchrograph Office to get some. Personal projects are allowed, but are not encouraged. These, too, must go through the Synchrograph. Perhaps due to some peculiarity of its designer, the Gug Andjak floors are numbered so that the lowest level, floor 45, is actually located below ground, where as floor 1 is the very top floor of the structure. The 'ground' floor is actually numbered floor 20, and the number decreases the higher you go. No one is quite sure why the floors were done this way, but then there has never been a reason to change it. Lay-out of a typical level :
Communal Labs and Workshops Because Sahovan Nuits work continuously on various projects and research, they are provided rooms to practice and hone their chosen disciplines. The Nuits and Pulser-apprentices who are barely competent in their chosen discipline are usually under the apprenticeship of Masters, and are only able to work in communal laboratories and workshops. The main difference between a workshop and a laboratory is that the former usually house projects that are mechanical in nature - those that require technical skill such as gadgeteering and smithing - and the latter is used for magical to chemical experiments. Communal Labs and Workshops are usually assigned letters and numbers depending on the floor they are in. For example, the first and second levels both have two laboratories and two workshops(Workshop or Laboratory 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B), the third level has four laboratories (Lab 3A, 3B, 3C), the fourth has three workshops (Workshop 4A, 4B, 4C). Private Labs and Workshops Having a personal laboratory or workshop is a privilege reserved for Masters, for they are those who have the right amount of skill and competence to pursue projects that would otherwise become disaster in the hands of novices. Most of the private laboratories are within proximity of the common workshops and laboratories, except the labs for dangerous disciplines like Alchemy, Malediction, and Voiding. These private rooms are usually located in lower levels, warded or guarded by golems, to prevent thieves or snoops. Some offices and rooms are also installed with spying devices that keep an eye and ear on apprentices left alone. In order to use private laboratories, one must first get consent or apprenticeship from the Masters. NPC Labs (PM for Mod Approval) Lab 1-F (Overseers Office) Lab 2-B (Research of Magecrafted Weapons) Lab 4-B (Historic Magecrafting Research Center) Lab 7-G (Research of Life and Death) Lab 8 (The Ring Maker) Lab 9-A (Research of Astral Coordinates and Distant Worlds) Lab 12-S (Research of Shielding Weaves) Lab 14-N (The Needle) Lab 21-D (Research of Glyphing Morphing Models) Lab 23-F (Research of Reimantic Paraelements) Lab 25-B (The Doorway) Lab 24-G (Research of Void Survival) Lab 30-M (Frankie Lee Tieh's Lab) Yachluria Forge Yachluria is a subterranean forge, located in the third basement to the northeast, a structure that was created and designed apart from the rest of Gug Andjak. It is a very large two-storey cave, connected to the Citadel through underground passages and lava tunnels. Sahovan technology is highly reliant on golems and magic; the forge is fully automated with sentient Smith-golems. Yachluria is where most of the production and refinery of metals and stones take place. Even if the forge is located deep underground, it is able to mass produce items that Nuits require. Large-scale projects such as the creation of Docks Overseer Golems are usually created in phases, with the large parts assembled outside the forge. STS |
