To see Bakar physically relax as the table offered welcomed introductions was a warming sight. Kai smiled reassuringly as the dark creature took his hand limply, noticing the obvious slump in the man's shoulders and that he finally raised his gaze to peer upon the table's inhabitants. As the young Svefra gazed into those eyes however, his heart jumped at the sight and his gut churned with unease. Something wasn't right. There was something missing from that man's gaze that Kai couldn't seem to place.
A spark, the vibrancy of life did not seem to shine out from deep inside those orbs and it was certainly as chilling a sight as Kai had ever seen. From within that gaze, the man looked haunted, not quite as alive. That couldn't actually be possible... could it? Surely it was just the dimmer lighting from the candles? Their small flames from the wicks reflecting a softer glow upon the man's features. At the initial shock of seeing the lifeless sight of Bakar's eyes, the young Svefra turned to his mug of ale. At the back of his mind as he swallowed hard, he realised that maybe this was what Skae had sensed when the man initially sat at their table and maybe that was the reasoning for her standoffish behaviour towards him. Had she some acute sixth sense that allowed her to see what he only now just saw?
Swiftly taking a long swing of his bitter Sylirian ale, the young Svefra took this moment to hastily recompose himself so as not to unnerve the shy newcomer to the table. He did not want to offend him or show that he had found the man's gaze unsettling, so he was thankful that conversation rolled onwards. To hear that he did not drink was not something unusual to Kai, he had many a friend who did not participate in the venture. They had always chastised him for doing so, so lividly. Their argument was that it was an unnecessary poison and hindrance to one's body and mind. Kai had never been able to argue with them otherwise.
Scratching the splintered wood of his mug with one finger as he pushed the sight of the man's dead eyes from his mind, collecting himself, the young Svefra suddenly perked up at the sound of a trick. When Bakar seemed to hesitate and spoke of magic, Kai had trouble translating the word spoken in Common into one that made sense to him in his mother tongue of Fratava. He had spoken of a trick, that word he understood. The word Magic in Common must be a word related to the nature of a trick. Eyes squinted as his mind worked to translate the Common, he was thankful that the others gave their opinion first, giving him the time he needed to try and convert the Common word in his mind.
The apparent drunken state of the florist opposite him, as Ren flopped forwards into the table, flinging his arm around the frail looking Bakar, cheered the young Svefra greatly. A hearty chuckle rumbled within Kai's chest as the merriment of the night took prominence and aided in forgetting the quickly fleeting chilling feeling he had experienced. The sudden relaxation in Skae's demeanor towards Bakar, however did surprise the young Svefra. Though he knew that solidifying opinions on the man from one experience of angst due to his eyes, was not the basis to judge the whole of the man and so understood the tribal woman's change towards the newcomer. It was not his place to judge a man upon first meeting, despite the reaction his gut had taken.
He had not been successful in translating the common word of Magic in his mind, having not come across it before, though he knew it must be similar to the meaning of trick. Kai was certainly one to be highly amused and befuddled by the nature of tricks, it was always a good laugh at parties and so the young Svefra voiced his approval, "Who no like tricks? Try friend, to waow us!" A genuinely ernst smile reappeared upon the Svefra's sea-cracked lips as he turned to Bakar awaiting the astounding appearance of a trick.
