Appearance

Naida is a tough figure in many ways. Her height is average that of a regular human woman, but her arms and legs are corded with thick muscle. She is athletic through her natural Drykas upbringing and is slightly more built than normal through heritage. All of the women in her family have always posessed strong, durable bodies. Her skin is the color of pale caramel, speckled with pigmented freckles and moles. She has scars from the challenging life in the grassland that can be spotted all around her body. Her windmark is her only other adornment.

Her long, curly hair flows freely wherever the wind may take it. She has little control over the untamed locks, so she keeps it manageable by wearing a cloth headband to hold it back. Her face sports an angled jaw and high cheekbones that frame graceful features. Her hazel eyes flicker about, always watchful for anything out of the ordinary. Her lips are full and her nose is rather flat.

She has a habit of looking much meaner than she actually is. If you catch her off guard, more than likely she dons a scowl. Life and its various trials have made her rugged and wary of the world. She wears the practical clothing of her new people, the Emerald clan. She rarely ever wears a dress unless it’s a special occasion, finding them a nuisance.

Concept

One doesn't need to ask Naida her opinion of things because chances are she has already told you. She is an assertive woman that isn’t afraid to share her thoughts and feelings. She believes silence is not an option - that one must proclaim a side on things or be viewed as a coward. Her mind is open, but she has things that she ultimately views as “good” or “bad.” Her morals are set in stone as she is a rather stubborn person. She hates when other people tell her what to do and has a rebellious nature that she works to keep in check.

The only thing that perhaps gives her more joy than family is music. Even as a young girl she’s always had an obsession with it, starting off singing bedtime lullabies and simple tunes on her flute. Music fills her so much so that she must express herself with her voice or feel as if she might just burst from the muse that is within. If she was ever to lose her voice she might as well end her life along with it. She of course worships the god Rhaus, and Zulrav also holds a special place in her heart. She pays homage to the rest of the common-knowledge Drykas gods as well.

History

Naida was born in Endrykas to the Sunsong pavilion within the Amethyst clan. Her father, Ee'an, was Ankal of the pavilion who provided by breeding only the strongest of Striders. He serviced in the Watch for 15 winters until an injury from a Zith attack forced him to retire and breed full time. He gained reverence and fame during his bout in the Watch which caused him to eventually take the place of Ankal when his own father passed. Her mother, Thalia, was Ee’an's first wife and a weaver although that is not where her true passions resided. She carried the tradition of song and storytelling passed down from family for many generations, a trait Naida has undoubtedly inherited. Naida's childhood was a happy one for the most part, though troubled with all the problems a normal Drykas child would experience. She developed a strong bond within the pavilion and was always treated with love and kindness.

Thalia and Naida’s grandmother, Lynne, taught her the tall tales of her ancestry and the songs that accompany them from the hour she was born. She has always been surrounded by melody and celebration that she would not feel like it was her life without it. Finding weaving terribly boring for her restless soul, she instead took to her father’s profession and cared for his Striders. She was too similar to her mother than she preferred, finding her one true calling within the song. She cared for the animals to make daily provisions to the pavilion, though found no special desire for it like her father. The power of music beckoned her in an inexplicable way.

During her 20th year of life, tragedy stuck like it so often does for the Drykas people. Do to a extreme dry spout in the summer, wildfire creeped into her pavilion like a thief in the night and killed most of the livestock and Sunsongs while they slept. Ee’an sacrificed himself to save the others but did not make it out in time, claiming his life. With no Ankal, food or shelter, the Sunsongs were dispersed throughout the clan, scattering them about to make due where they were needed. However, Naida caught the eye of a man in the Emerald clan who agreed to shelter her and the little remaining family she had in return of taking a chevas mark. With little to negotiate with, she painstakingly complied.

There was no celebration at her wedding, just the exchange of vows and breaking of bread. She was distraught and hollow as she had just attended her family’s funeral days before. It held little meaning to her, but she felt as she must do this to take care of her family. She is grateful to her husband, but he is an older, somber man who could never keep up with her lively essence. She now works dutifully in order to give back to her new clan, but fears the day her husband asks for a child. With the help of her widowed mother she endures and continues the tradition of the Sunsongs. It is the only thing that has kept her spirit alive.

Description: Yanni and Naida bonded just two seasons ago before most of Naida's family perished. If it were not for the Strider, all might have been lost. Yanni is like a crutch to the girl, comforting her in the most dire times of need.

Yanni is a moody horse, taking no one on her back except for Naida and a select few family members. She is very much like her rider in the way that they are both boisterous and not afraid to express their feelings. The Strider is always making some sort of noise to approve or disapprove of Naida's decisions.
