The 45th day of Winter in the year 509 AV
Syliras Temple of All Gods...

His first time within this city did not impress the Isur. At least not yet. The buildings were bland and the people seemed happy to wander and carry on with their less than important lives. The locals seemed drunk on feelings of security and would most likely be terrified if something shook up their lives that they did not expect. The thought calmed Gortimir as he was once again was reassured of his superior role in life.

After traveling for some time and observing the people and places surrounding him, Gortimir finally came upon this temple. Though again unremarkable in appearance, the Isur decided it was the only place so far he felt could warrant him dismounting his zavian, Stellos. Moving the horse to the side of the entrance and securing him properly, Gortimir slowly walked through the front of the building.

The spacious interior of the temple actually did make the Isur raise his eyes and it also served to instill the first bit of inspiration that he was in the right place. The architects obviously had enough skill to build such a high, unsupported ceiling and inspiration quickly brought Gortimir to desire to learn the skills required to create it himself. Perhaps Izurdin wanted me to see this and take that path while I'm in this city. Thinking of Him made Gortimir realize he was in the right place to try and get some feeling or direction from Izurdin. Though the physical temple itself was not required for him to contact the god, it did seem to be as good a place as any other.

Passing several rows of pews, Gortimir ensured the row he chose was away from other people. Not that he had anything to hide, but those who would be here were most likely not praying to Izurdin and he had no desire to test his patience with misled peasants. Finding a place to sit, the Isur let his eyes gaze upwards again. Taking a breath, he halfway thought and halfway mumbled, is this what I'm here for, my lord? Shall I hone my study of architecture or improve my skills in construction? How could I find a truly worthy teacher in this city, Izurdin? His eyes remained raised but Gortimir was not seeing anything. His mind was focused on Izurdin and what his future should bring him. Speaking to Izurdin and praying to the god calmed Gortimir and his contentment was more than welcome.

Klane

Father Glav looked thoughtfully at the young man. He tilted his head, reached up to rub his chin, and then smiled. He gently clasped the young man on the shoulder and smiled. "I doubt you will find meaning, being Kelvic, standing in these four walls asking questions of life that others spend the whole of their existence searching for." He said, his voice gentle and in a way incredibly peaceful. He moved a few steps away and took a seat on one of the pews and patted the spot beside it. "My name is Glav Navik and I caretake this temple. And while I know a great many things, I doubt I can tell you how to find meaning in your own life. I can however, explain a little about why your searching. It's a common problem among your kind." The priest said, sighing softly.

"Five years before the Valterrian, The Goddess of Winter's daughter stole immortality from the river of time itself. Tanroa was not pleased, but there was little she could do. Yshul had a twins, prior to her greatest theft, a boy and a girl. They were as close as two siblings could ever be. One was a boy.. named Marcus, the other was a daughter named Azala. They grew up together in Avanthal under Morwen's watchful eyes. Their mother wasn't exactly a fit parent. When they were older, the war between Suvan and Alahea escalated. Azala grew to be a fine mage, and was often away through the gates the mages who summon familiar's use. Marcus was not so athletic as his sister... he walked with a terrible limp so often stayed home to research and develop new magics. He lived in a palace-like fortress called Ironrock that the goddess Semele built him as a favor to Morwen, his grandmother. It was about the time that Yshul stole her immorality that Azala came up missing and the gates between worlds were sealed. Marcus feared he wouldn't get his sister back... and that she was lost off world."
The man said, softly telling the story.

"Marcus had the knowledge and power to break through the seals and continue going from world to world, but he was physically not able too. But he did have in his possession a creature he summoned from off world, not a familiar exactly, but a creature that was very much alive that could mimic life. Any life. And at first, he gave it his own blood to mimic himself. So he could speak to it, get to know it, and ask it the greatest favor of his life. He asked it to look for his sister... to go where he could not. But the creature in the form it was, the form of a man, wasn't suitable. Men are inherently weak. Animals are not. But animals were much better, but they could not speak with the voice of men. Marcus needed the best of both worlds. And because the creature owed Marcus, the creature split itself in reproduction and let Marcus work with its substance. He created, from real animals, thinking feeling creatures to serve him... infusing them with the creatures essence - its offspring - to create the Kelvic race. Then he charged them with the need to search for his sister, Azala. Marcus bred them, repeatedly, over and over, until he had the ultimate soldiers, spys, scouts... We don't know, to this day, what happened to Marcus or Azala or if he ever found his sister. The Valterrian happened before his project was fully completed. But we do know that kelvics today spend the whole of their lives searching... they look for someone with Azala's qualities.. intelligence, beauty, someone to serve like they served Marcus. It is why you seek... and it is what you are looking for."
The priest said, smiling gently, as if the stranger's needs were in fact not so strange at all.

Gortimir

While his usual communion with his god usually left him calm and a bit more focused, Izurdin had not yet spoken or appeared directly to Gortimir. Such was not the god's way. There were those few back in Sultros who claimed to have spoken with Izurdin and actually saw the deity yet few they were indeed. Whether or not Gortimir expected an answer to his prayer was irrelevant but he did find that his mind was growing calmer with each mental word. He sat for many moments after giving his prayer but no answer came; at least not one Gortimir would immediately recognize. Izurdin was the God of Patience and he expected his children to exemplify that aspect in their own lives. It was a lesson that Gortimir had been taught long ago yet it was often no that easy.

Then, just as Gortimir began having thoughts of getting up and leaving, he heard a couple people approach and sit a short distance away. Perhaps it was because of his more calm, focused mind following the prayer or maybe it was something else but the two individuals were whispering to one-another; Gortimir could hear them quite clearly.

One of the two men whispered to the other, "I heard the knights were looking to establish more of a presence along the Kadrin road. My friend said that they asked him about helping them with the design and construction of a small outpost. Guess they want to establish a more permanent patrol out there. My buddy had his hands full with a couple other projects though and had to turn them down."

The other guy whispered back, "Yeah, I know having a few more patrols out there wouldn't hurt; there's some right nasty things lurkin 'bout in them woods. Hope they find someone soon."

Whether or not Gortimir realized it, Izurdin had provided his answer.

Gortimir had no recollection of how much time had passed sitting there on the pew of this temple, but he knew that with each passing moment he had felt more calm. The patience he had learned while growing up served him well through the years but it seemed like every day it was testing in some way or another. In his more youthful days, his patience with Izurdin himself was tested and that was perhaps one of the best learning experiences the Isur had never forgotten. But dutifully worshiping the god had taught him that trust placed in His hands was trust well-allocated.

The voices from near him slowly crept into Gortimir's serene thoughts and calm mind. Nobody was sitting near him when he arrived, the blue tinted man had made a point of that, so these men who spoke low must have only recently arrived. Initially, he was put off by the fact that they had chosen to sit so close to him and speak where he could hear. Had they no respect for others in all places? The Isur was contemplating turning to give the two gentlemen a look to convey his unpleasant thoughts when the words that they spoke finally turned the cog that clicked the light on upstairs. Immediately his thoughts reversed from irritation to jubilation as he realized Izurdin had once again graced him with an answer to his prayers. Patience, he was reminded, was the key in most situations. For the first time since arriving in this city, a subtle smile found its way to Gortimir's lips.

Waiting for a convenient pause in the conversation the two men were sharing, the Isur turned, ensuring his smile was at least minutely apparent, and looked at them. "Excuse me, gentlemen, I could not help but overhear," Gortimir politely said in a hushed voice as not to disturb others. "Did I hear correctly that the Knights are currently looking for somebody to help design and build an outpost?" Of course he had heard correctly, but Gortimir decided that a small amount of tact when dealing with these strangers in a city he was so unfamiliar with could not hurt the situation. He moved closer to the two men so he could speak softer and make the exchange slightly more personal.

"It so happens that I have some background in architecture and construction. Do you think I could speak with somebody about this?" Gortimir did not offer his name or any other pleasantries. He did not even know these men, after all. He would gauge their responses and decide how to press on from there, but ultimately he was only after a name and a location. These men would have served their purpose and Gortimir would be certain to thank Izurdin for this turn of events.

Klane stared at Glav, taking in everything the man had just said. He wanted to understand and be able to leave, but he couldn't. For Klane was young and naive, and the priests intelligent answer only left him with more questions, more frustration. He failed to completely understand what the man had said, yet he didn't want to respond and seem like an idiot. Instead, the Kelvic continued to stare. He wasn't educated, how was he supposed to comprehend that.

Klane began to think that the priest was fooling with him. The man obviously wasn't, but Klane was used to either simple straightforward answers, or no answer at all. He never had to think over much. Ugh! I'm probably just stupid! He sighed unable to come up with words that would mean or express anything. Taking notice of the fact that he'd just been staring for a while he chose to say something, and what he did say wasn't thought over to much, "Uh... So that's all?"

Mod NoteI'm really impressed at how you rp your kelvic. You really do play up the slave/ignorance well.

Klane

Glav smiled. "Life doesn't have to be all that complicated. You just seek that which you don't have yet need. Hunting is what you do for food when you are hungry, no? It is no different. That seeking will cease when you find a bondmate." Of course that wasn't all there was to it. But the young kelvic might not have been properly told what it was. He looked no more than a year or so old to Glav. "A bondmate is someone you can serve, a friend, a companion, someone who will treat you with equality. It is a necessity with your kind unless you go rogue and reject the concept. Best be out and about in the world, young man, and find a friend or two... perhaps someone suitable to bond with." The priest added with a gentle smile.

"Life doesn't have to be all that complicated." Now, that was an answer Klane liked. He listened closely to what Glav said afterwards and nodded once in understanding. The man was starting to make sense. "So," The Kelvic began finding the right words before speaking, "A bondmate is like... A nice owner?" He turned his head to one side, much like a canine, as he finished the question. He wasn't totally right, but those were simple enough terms that any x-slave could relate to, and he could catch the general meaning with them.

Was he still disappointed? Yes. He was expecting an extremely intelligent answer that was life changing, but now he began to understand that an answer like that might not exist. And if it did, he wasn't ready for it.

Postby Nyahna Sasin on March 7th, 2010, 11:46 pm

Sasin gazed around at the temple. One thing that had to be said about humans. When they built good structures, the built good structures. But that was not his concern right now.

He slid into a pew, and bowed his head. "The outside world iss not what I expected." He whispered in a soft, slithering voice. "But perhapsss I was a fool not to have ssseen this coming. The people here are mosstly humanss, and for that I am thankful. If they knew, they would see usss asss vermin. How can we change them? Why must we hide? The kelvicss, they are free to do ass they like. But usss..... I pray that thiss will change, Lady Siku. We number too little to afford thiss hatred. The constrictor folk are fool. Why then, can they claim to be your chosen?" He asked.

He also sent up a prayer to Caiyha that her daughter wouldn't come down and smite him for that.

Postby Aksia Carataqua on March 8th, 2010, 2:42 am

As Aksia followed Sasin into the temple, she took a while to look at it, it was a very grand structure and even Sasin seemed to enjoy looking at it. She marveled at the structure for another second or two and then walked into the temple. She knew what to do.

She walked into a one of the temple pews and clasped her hands together, before whispering her prayers to all her gods, "To every god or goddess that may want to listen to me, I would like to ask you a question, I'm pretty sure that I came to land seeking answers to my life as well as a bit of adventure and fun, but I have found no answers at all, am I supposed to stay here? Or am I supposed to go back to where I came from, a fish is not supposed to come on land and when they do, they flounder and are alien to it. I would like to know answers as to why I am on land, and whether I should stay, or go back to the waters in which I came?

Sasin & Aksia

Father Glav watched from the alcove up near the alter as the two walked into his Temple. He was curious about them, thinking the pairing odd between what was obvious to at least his gaze was a Dhani and Charoda. He stepped forward, making his way closer, and overheard first and foremost Sasin's prayer. Then he heard the charoda's delicate whispers.

He nodded, his heart going out to both of them, but knowing sometimes the nature of creatures can be deceptive.

"You ask good questions, both of you. Tell me though, what do you think the true answers are? Please... don't tell me you don't know. Take a look deep inside of yourselves and tell me if you can't bring them answer forth on your own. Why do your people not get along? Why are you here? They are questions people have asked for ages. Look inside yourselves though... tell me... did someone not leave the answers already there?" He asked.
