"Kisetukai Yamehaka? I see."
he said a bit surprised. Normally when kelvic's joined they had bonded to Knights instead of simple squires, but it wasn't unheard of. "So have you spoken to his patron? Are you to join under the same squad that Kisetukai Yamehaka is in?"

Alabast

"Well good day there my good boy. It's always good to see new faces looking to join the order. Now tell me, who are you, and why do you wish to join?"

"Name is Alabast Hartbane Sir, my father was a knight. And my brother and sister are squiring at the Outpost. But I guess that's not really a good reason is it? I really want to join to help people. I've always been taught that when you have the power to, you should help people. And, I just think the knights is the best place to do that."

"Yes and yes. Ser Corben Rathe agrees to be both my and Kise's patron just to make things easier. He directed me here to seal the deal." Akilia said. She reflected she should have brought that up earlier...

"I see." He answered. Well I see no reason that you can not join, and if you have a Knight to speak for you that is even better." He looked away and quickly began to look through a heavy book from which he withdrew a single piece of parchment to use. The Knight started to take down her information so that he could store it for later. "In that case, consider yourself a squire."

Alabast

"If you have Knights in the family, you are basically already in the order, this is just a formality you see. So young man, is there a patron to speak for you, and are you looking to guard the outpost?"

"No sir, there's no patron to speak for me. And, I would be honored to guard to outpost, but I have much to learn. Perhaps my knightly skills might grow better with in the bounds of the castle?" Alabast offered "Then again, the Outpost isn't quite like the city, there's experience I can gain there that I couldn't here." He bowed his head and decided to defer to the recruiter's experience. "Place me wherever I'm needed sir, and wherever my skills may serve the order best."

[Syliras Location] Recruitment Office

Postby Kayelin Mannering on May 15th, 2013, 1:22 pm

513 AV, 81st Day of Spring

Syliras was a maze of stone corridors and streets, twisting and winding like a coiled snake. At least it felt like that to Kayelin, who'd gotten lost enough times to count on both hands. She'd finally made it to the Dyres District and found a lanky young boy who could show her to the way to the recruitment office, which was a relief becuse she would never have found it without help, even with a detailed map. Everything was so grand here compared to Sunberth, that a few times she almost wandered off as he led her deeper into the recesses of the city. "Here we are," he said, making her jump. She'd gotten distracted again. Kayelin smiled gratefully and shook the boy's hand, realizing for the first time that he probably wasn't much younger than she was.

He looked more than a little annoyed with the trip, probably because he kept having to herd her back on track like a brainless sheep. "Thank you, I really appreciate it. Is there an-?" Before she could finish her question though, he turned on his heel and strode off, leaving her perplexed and a little peeved. Whatever his business was, it must have been far more important. Or maybe he was just snooty. "Fine," she grumbled, straightening her back and shoulders before entering the office.

Her mouth seemed to have gone dry, and no amount of licking her lips would moisten it. Ser Erik was far more imposing than she imagined. The guard at the front gates never could have prepared her for facing down a one armed, grizzled old Knight that looked like he could chew up some iron and spit out nails. Surprisingly though, his eyes didn't seem hard. Possibly even a little merry, which was a little at odds with his scarred and maimed body. Kayelin felt stiff as a board as she stood before him, her sweaty fingers flexing over and over around her sword's grip buckled at her hip.

"Hello, Ser. My name is Kayelin Mannering, and I've come from Sunberth in search of service to the Knights. I wish to become a Squire." At least her voice sounded strong and sure, unlike the rest of her which felt as taut as a bowstring. A wet snort made her jump, and after a moment of confusion, she realized in horror that she'd forgotten about her dog. Luckily it was sitting on her foot, as usual, but sadly it was also drooling on the floor. As usual. Kayelin wasn't sure if the Knights allowed Squires to have pets, and she didn't know what she would do with it if they didn't. It was a farewell present from her mother, after all.

Absently, she also realized she should have cleaned up instead of coming straight to the recruitment office from the road. She was covered in dirt, was sunburnt, and smelled like sweat and dog, but she decided to keep her mouth shut. The Falivan pup licked its chops loudly, thumping its tail rhythmically against the floor. Kayelin felt her ears start to turn red.

"Thank you very much sir!" Akilia gushed, flashing a wide smile. Then she began to turn away content with the prospect of being a squire. Now I can go tell Kise. He'll be so surprised... She thought and skipped to the door and placed a hand on it. She paused, what if there was more that she had to sign up for? Like what she was supposed to do as a squire. She turned back around facing the man though she stood several paces away. "Um...is there anything else?"

Akilia Dosert

The Knight smiled, finding the girl's enthusiasm to be mildly cute. But he had things to do and turned away to finish up what he needed to record before he would forget. Glancing up he noticed the girl was still standing there. "Well go on, that is all."

Alabast

"So you'd rather stay inside the city, and not with your family? Striking out on your own. I can understand that. It it a good way to learn without a safety net I would say. Well then, I will send you to patrol the docks area under Serah Hawkins. I think she will make a good man out of you."

Kayelin Mannering

Erik Rainstrom sat up in his seat and leaned forward to look at this one. She was dirty, smelled, hair was a mess and she even brought a dog in. As it was, the Knight's didn't care if squires had pets as long as they took proper care of them. However, that had nothing to do with bringing them into public places, least of all official offices. "Kayelin Mannering I don't like drooling animals in my office. please take the dog outside and when you returned I'd like to hear something about you and why you wish to join the Knights."

Her ears were definitely red now, as well as the rest of her face. It already wasn't going the way she imagined it all those times in her head on the way from Sunberth. Not even close. Kayelin nodded quickly and fumbled with the scruff of the dog's neck, backing out of the room and half-dragging, half-leading it behind her. "Yes, Ser. Sorry, Ser." Back outside the office, she crouched at the wall next to her salivating hound. "You'll have to wait out here. I'll be back soon, I think." She shrugged off her shield and backpack, fishing out a length of rope before propping them against the wall. One end of the hemp she tied around the dog's neck, then the other to one of the straps on the back of her shield.

If the pup decided to wander off, she'd at least hear the shield being drug along the stone floor. A crude setup, but hopefully it'd work. "Stay," she commanded half-heatedly, feeling discouraged by the current proceedings. The pup peered up at her from its spot, already creating a little puddle of drool at her paws. More than a little embarrassed at this point, Kayelin reentered the office. She paused awkwardly, standing once more before the old Knight. When he didn't speak, she continued where they'd left off, feeling like a lumbering circus fool. "I've come from Sunberth, wanting to be a Squire," she repeated once more. "I only just arrived not more than two bells ago."

And she felt dead on her feet, to boot. Definitely should have checked in tomorrow instead, but it was far too late now. "I've wanted to be a Knight ever since I was little. I wanted to protect those who couldn't protect themselves." Her confidence was returning again with the presentation of her case, though she'd never been good with words. "I still want to, in fact. But I also want to help my family move away from Sunberth. And I want to fight for the good of region of Sylira. I've seen enough bad where I'm from to know I want no part of it. I can already fight with a sword and shield, but I'm nowhere near as good as a Knight, and I know a little of the history of the order."

Kayelin tried to swallow the lump in her throat, but it felt like a clump of dirt. She lapsed into an uncertain silence instead, standing ramrod straight.

Kayelin Mannering

"You keep plainly, seem of good heart and spirit. I think we could use more like yourself in the order. Remember being a Knight starts in the mind and in the soul before any type of brute strength is called upon. As a squire, I can tell you, that you will spend a lot of time with your patron learning the ways of the Knights. Just as you will likely run into a lot of squires who don't live up to the rank that they believe their name carries. It does not, and I assure you that these squires will never see Knighthood. So do not allow yourself to fall in with this crowd."

He shifted in his desk and reached inside to pull out a clean sheet of parchment to use. "So tell me, what are your goals? Your ideals? If I were to grant you the rank of squire, under which shield would you like to serve?"
