Loretto
Race: Nuit Birthday & Age: Season of Spring, Day 42, 15 AV: 497 years old. Gender: Female, as far as she is aware Languages As difficult as it is to imagine, five hundred years gives Loretto a lot of time to use up. And so she's filled her time practicing communication. As such, she is skilled with several languages. Common - Fluent Nari - Fluent Vani - Basic Fratava - Poor Physical Description - As of Winter, 511 AV As a very thin woman, Loretto stands at five feet, two inches, and holds an oddly tall posture. She has fairly pale skin - though not nearly as pale as most of the Nuit - and has the other traits unique to her race; Dark bags under her eyes, along with a blackened tongue being the forefront of these. However, it is still fairly obvious that she is not incredibly strong. Her hair is an almost white-blonde color, hanging down to her shoulders, though she normally covers it with a hood. As a sharp contrast to the rest of her face, her eyes are bright green and seem to glow slightly, though she has no idea why this is; assuming it is a secret of the host. Despite her otherwise reserved appearance, her eyes constantly dart around, memorizing anything that may be potential dangers. This habit has saved her many times in the past, making her rely on it heavily. Her attire could be considered something like “mysterious”. She is most often seen wearing a dark grey pair of pants, though they are tucked into a pair of black men's boots. She also dons a long sleeved white shirt, along with a leather belt to keep track of her many tools and weapons. Over this, she wears a dark green cloak. This cloak has been with her throughout most of her unlife, and as such seems very dusty and tattered, but is still usable. Other Names' Appearances, Coming Soon Character Concept Though she attempts to be kind, Loretto usually winds up being blunt and straight to the point. No matter the situation, she doesn't sugarcoat things. To some people, this can be rude, but she doesn't care much about other people's thoughts of her. Hence, she never bothers hiding her race. She simply doesn't mention it. Her blackened tongue and the bags under her eyes give away her race, but if people were to ignore that, she wouldn't be any different from a human - or whatever race her current body was. Her days are spent learning and watching, and she has a habit of pointing out something she knows about a person before they speak; it is her own version of a game. Their race, age, and even profession are the most common things, though based on mannerisms and traits, she can tell more than that. In a world that hates her race, Loretto tries to fit in, though these attempts fail more often than not. She has a tendency to watch and listen rather than speak. When she does speak, however, her attitude is usually construed as biting and sarcastic, even cynical on occasion. This is true to some degree; she speaks the truth and doesn't bother with anything else. Perhaps she does exaggerate sometimes, but those instances are rare. Her knowledge of both languages and cultures also play a large part in her conversations, she will often greet someone in their native tongue if she knows their language. As immortals are normally hopeless in their boredom, Loretto has developed a long-term goal: She wants to see - and live in - every country and every city in Mizahar. This gives the Nuit some sense of purpose, as without it, she would cease to be entertained, and likely rot away slowly in some ghost town. With this purpose comes some degree of humanity- all she has left, as an immortal. Character History Hidden for Length :
Loretto is not the first name this particular Nuit has used. She has had a total of five names, each drastically different from the last.
Pellavi's story - 15 AV to 34 AV She was born as Pellavi, a Dek of Wind Reach, along with her twin sister Asaiva. Her family knew that survival would require one of their children to bond with Wind Eagles. Thankfully, they were gifted with telepathy, unlike their parents. The younger of the two, Pellavi, was the first to bond with a Wind Eagle at the age of fourteen. It is in this way that Pellavi outshone her sister, both physically and mentally. She, however, was the only one to be elevated to the Endal caste, and had to leave her family behind. Two years later, Asaiva followed in her younger sister's footsteps, but Pellavi - Pell (Andraste) as she had been known - had gone on to greater things. Her mind was drawn away from thoughts of family and on to flying. She spent most of her time flying, and loved it with all of her being. When Andraste was killed, Pell was nineteen. Anger had been raised after Pell's history was uncovered. Her friends became jealous of her astounding rise to power. During a "training accident", Andraste was killed. Pell was left a soulless husk, a shadow of her former self. She was tortured every day by her memories. And then one day, only a season later.... A stranger offered her a gift. A sort of perpetual life. He swore to make it worth her while, and made her a Nuit. After it was said and done, the stranger vanished without a trace. Andraste's story - 34 AV to 156 AV For the next hundred and twenty years, Pell called herself Andraste, still mourning the loss of her partner. She wandered the world with foolish thoughts. She looked for the stranger that she was bent on killing. She got used to the insults and hatred. And then, in 52 AV, she stumbled upon The Spires. Like all new arrivals, she was fairly welcome in the Jamouras' small culture. Though it had scarcely been fifty years since the Valterrian, and the people were still distrustful, she decided not to really care and set to telling them about her life in Wind Reach. Andraste adopted their ideals of getting attached, of not loving something that would die so quickly. She abandoned her goal of killing the stranger. In 86 AV, Andraste took on her first male body. She realized that it honestly didn't matter what gender she was in appearance. As long as she retained her sense of self, she wouldn't lose her sanity, among other things. The Jamourians shared their own knowledge with her, and it went on like this through most of Andraste's long life. She made a long-term friend in the Jamourian people, and still visits their forest often. After all, it is rare to find one who lives longer than the Jamoura, even if she is undead. In 150 AV, she left the forest, wanting to explore the rest of the world. However, in the next several years, she discovered nothing of interest, and started North, to try losing herself in the snowy tundras of Taldera. It was here that she decided to visit the Vantha, and changed her name to reflect their songs. Allegra's story - 156 AV to 240 AV Allegra's experiences are some of the most peaceful of the Nuit's life. After stumbling upon a Vantha Hold in Spring of 156 AV, she spent quite a while learning from them. Within a few seasons, she decided to move on to Avanthal to learn more about the people. By 160 AV, she had become a respected member of the Vantha community. This was the point in the Nuit's experience that new bodies were the hardest to come by. In order to keep the respect she had earned, her identity as a Nuit could not be revealed. As such, she claimed she was leaving Avanthal, entering again in her new body. Almost sixty years passed before this farce was discovered. A young girl, hardly of age, stumbled upon Allegra as she was preparing for the ritual to switch bodies. Without any other way out, Allegra immediately killed the girl, despite the strain it caused on her decaying body, and continued the ritual. With a moment of ingenuity, she stabbed her older body several times, hopefully making it seem like murder. She did, however, leave Avanthal before she switched again, in an attempt to keep her identity a secret around the Vantha, hoping to return there as well. Cielo's story - 240 AV to 415 AV On her way returning to Sylira, Allegra chanced witnessing a hawk Kelvic in transformation. The sight brought painful memories back up to the Nuit, reminding her of how it felt to fly. With a sudden, instant decision, she renamed herself Cielo, for the sky. She continued traveling across Mizahar, never really settling. But all things have to end. In 308 AV, she found the human city of Sunberth. She planned on staying there for maybe a season. While there, however, a stranger discovered her racial secret. It got out that a Nuit woman was in the town, and soon after, Cielo was imprisoned. She spent two years in a dungeon before a chance finally came to her. Someone seemed to want her dead, and had poisoned her scarce amounts of food - not that she needed it. It seemed they hadn't known what Nuits were. It was laughable, she thought. Realizing what the poison was, she offered it to one of the guards, smiling all the while, innocent. He collapsed in a frothing mess inside her cell. She switched bodies then, taking advantage of the guard's keys and escaping the city. In a vicious time of revenge, she started a chain of assassinations. No one too serious, just humans in general. To make them pay. By the time she completed her rage in 315 AV, twenty-eight had died by her hands. They were never noticed over such a long span, though. Though she despised humans by this point, Cielo continued around each of the human settlements in Sylira, spending several years in each place. She met many people as Cielo, and saw many sights, but nothing is more regretted than her rage in Sunberth. By 410 AV, Cielo had forgiven herself for her crimes, but swore off of killing unless it was necessary for survival. Loretto's story - 415 AV to Present Though she still often travels, Loretto has mainly resided in Zeltiva since she took on the name. She visits many places, and sees many sights, but Zeltiva is a marvel to her, both commercially and educationally. Throughout her many names, and despite her eternal solitude, Loretto has retained her will to live, retained the many things that creatures choose to live for. Learning, adventure, excitement, and a childish search for joy... All of them play a part in the maze of history and emotion that is Loretto.
