This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]
David Arnim steps out of one of his favorite Taverns in Avanthal into the cold streets. It had been a good day, though he had yet to find any work. His normal clients didn't have any need of him that day and he could not find any work in the tavern, so he would have to search the streets. He was always on the search for a job, no matter how big or small. The wound he had acquired a few days earlier was healing rather nicely thanks to the skill of those who work at the healing center.
He walks down the snowy street taking in all the sights and sounds of everyday life while breathing the frigid air. As he searches the streets for a possible job he begins to pass by a local blacksmith, who looked rather stressed. Upon recognizing David the blacksmith quickly walks up to him."You wouldn't happen to be David Arnim, would you ?" the Vantha blacksmith asks."Why yes I am, what do you need of me ?" he asks the stressed Vantha blacksmith."I need an escort into the wilderness, so that I may make an important deal." he says with a slight pause."I had hired someone else to escort me, but they are a no show." he says now looking David over."I think you would do nicely." he says with a smirk."You will never find a better escort through the wilderness." he says in his usual boastful manner."I am sure." the Vantha says with a pause."I will give you two gold mizas for the job." he says obviously not wanting to pay full price."My friend, a mercenary such as my caliber is worth at least three gold mizas. Not to mention it can be rather dangerous out there in the wilderness." he says knowing the blacksmith wouldn't have much choice but to go with his price. The blacksmith gives a slight grunt."Fine, but not a miza over." he says with a pause."I will meet you by the eastern gates, don't keep me waiting." the Vantha says before turning away from David and walking down the snow covered street.
After traveling back to his home and retrieving his weapons and armor David makes his way to the eastern gate to meet up with his client."Glad you decided to come armored, I need a look of professionalism for this deal." the Vantha blacksmith says to David as he walks up to him. David didn't much like his clients attitude, but a job was a job and a miza was a miza. The blacksmith was holding what looked to be a short sword wrapped in fabric to keep it protected from dirt and grime."We should get going." David says to the blacksmith who gives a nod in agreement. Both the blacksmith and David exit through the east gate and into the cold wilderness.
After walking through the tundra snow for a bit David started to noticed that his side was becoming a tad bit sore, the wound was healing up but it was still there."So who are we meeting with all the way out here ?" David asks the blacksmith who was walking at a rather fast pace."All you need to know is that he represents someone who is interested in buying my swords." he says not giving very much information. David was okay with the answer he was given but he was still a bit curious. After walking a bit more through the thick tundra snow the blacksmith comes to a stop."Alright, we wait here." he says turning to David who gives a nod.
As they wait David kept an eye out for movement. After a bit of waiting a man wearing a black cloak approached them."Are you the blacksmith I was ordered to meet ?" the cloaked man asks looking the blacksmith over."I am indeed." the blacksmith says with a pause."I have the sword your master requested." he says presenting the wrapped sword. David watched the cloaked mans every movement, incase he tried anything."Excellent, let me see." the cloaked man says putting his hand out waiting for the blacksmith to hand it over. The blacksmith hands the cloaked man the wrapped sword under the watchful eyes of David. The man in the black cloak quickly unwraps the sword and looking it over. He was obviously impressed by the craftsmanship."Well ?" the blacksmith asks in a nervous tone. The cloaked man looks up from the sword for a moment."I believe you will be hearing from my master soon." he says before observing the sword some more."Might I keep the sword so I may present it to my master ?" he asks looking up yet again."Of course !" the blacksmith says in a now excited tone."Excellent." the cloaked man says before turning away and walking off.
The blacksmith turns to David who was watching the cloaked man as he walked off through the tundra."I will pay you once we get back to the city." the blacksmith says before walking past David in the direction of Avanthal. David gives a slight smirk with a nod before following his employer. It was good that the deal was a success, because it meant that the blacksmith might hire him with a frequency now.
Notes: Very short thread. That deal the blacksmith npc made with that curious persona left me wondering what he could possibly be up to. I bet you'll continue this plot point in another thread, you can't possibly leave me hanging!
And as always, you surprise me with the scenarios you are able to come up with. This one shows that not every job a mercenary will come across upon will involve blood, gore, and fighting.
