The Letter

Postby Autumn Leithea on August 23rd, 2013, 1:45 am

78th Day of Summer, 413 AV

Autumn was walking through the mass of people happily. She had just picked the pockets of a few unsuspecting townsfolk and had a hearty handful of Mizas jingling in her pocket.

The hour was getting late in the day, as the sun cast over them all was quickly disappearing into the western sky. Autumn decided to go home. Making her way through the crowd, she thought she caught the sight of a man whom looked particularly paranoid for a commoner, and decided to tail him.
As she followed she noticed the man constantly looking over his shoulder, Autumn blending with the crowd, and that he was taking a strange roundabout route in an attempt to lose tails and mask where his actual destination was.
This made it even more lucrative to Autumn, he was carrying something important.

Moving through the crowd like water through fingers, she made her way close to the man, and in-stride picked the mans pocket. Her quick fingers wrapped around something light and made of paper, her hand revealing a sealed letter as the man continued to walk away. She made her way to an alley, and opened the letter.

Her jaw dropped when she read the contents.

[Prequel] The Letter

Garin followed the pickpocket with an angry glare; he was one of those she had tried to steal from, but, unlike the commoners, he noticed his already lightweight pouch becoming lighter. And he did NOT appreciate it.

Normally, he would enjoy this; toy with her a bit. Ah... enjoy her company. Then cut her throat, take her money and leave. But this time, there'd be bo front. No one steals from him and walks away.

[Prequel] The Letter

Postby Arthur Graystone on August 26th, 2013, 7:33 pm

Arthur didn't know why, but he just felt like taking a walk. He should have learned by now that whenever he left home he got lost, but he thought that, since he'd gotten lost so much, he had developed an immunity to getting lost. How wrong he was. He took two steps and turned the corner before he forgot where home was. Though the springs were in the building right next to him, literally, he thought that he'd find it by running straight ahead.

"If only I had a map or something, I wouldn't have to go through this every week." But that's what he always said. And what would he actually have done with a map. It wasn't like he could, or would, read it. He got around via word of mouth and what his gut told him. Because of that, being lost was a regular pastime.

And as usual, getting lost was about the worst thing that could happen to Arthur. He didn't have to get involved. When he saw a stalker train, though, his interest was peaked. It wasn't everyday you saw anything interesting like three people each following one person, save the man in the front, without knowing that the other two were there. In fact, Arthur almost never saw anything remotely interesting. Sure many people thought he saw stuff, but he was actually in his own little world most of the time.

When Arthur saw them at first, he assumed they were playing some kind of game. Since he had nothing to do, he decided, without anyone else's input, to join in. So he followed the last guy.

[Prequel] The Letter

Postby Autumn Leithea on August 26th, 2013, 8:16 pm

She was being followed, she knew it, she just had a strange feeling within her after leaving the alley, and she felt it now too.
The letter was too important for anyone to come upon and simply take. She had to act natural.

At the risk of loosing her mark, she decided she would let her tail catch up with her. She couldn't give away the position of the unknown courier to anyone else. It was a risky move, but she needed to find the man and to question him as to who gave him the note in the first place and above all, to make sure this information remained a secret to anybody else but her.

She had a hunch where he would go, and she couldn't be sure, but she had a good feeling about it. If only she could get there before he was discovered a failure and beheaded.

She braced herself for unwelcome company as she felt a man come closer and closer to her.

The Letter

Garin saw her stop. He himself paused for a moment; perhaps she was up to something? Well, he might as well find out. He needed that money back, and he intended to get it, one way or another.

Drawing himself up to full height- which wasn't a very impressive sight- he advanced closer to the woman. He drew his dagger and palmed it under his sleeve, just in case.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?"

He placed a hand on her shoulder and turned her to face him.

"I'd appreciate it if I could have my money back."

He said quite bluntly, his cruel eyes burrowing into her.

[Prequel] The Letter

Postby Arthur Graystone on August 27th, 2013, 7:44 pm

Whatever game they were playing- or at least Arthur thought they were playing- it was really strange. Arthur didn't even know how to play, besides following the one in the back. So he just decided to mimic who he was chasing. When Arthur saw the man stop, he stopped too. "What happened?" Arthur thought. "Is the game over?"

Staring at the man, Arthur saw him draw a knife before advancing again. So that was the kind of game they were playing. They were trying to be assassins. Arthur guessed that meant the game was over when they tagged each other with daggers. So that meant the guy in front of him was going in for the kill. In that case, Arthur decided to go for the kill as well.

Unfortunately, the man decided to try a direct approach for a sneak assassination. He put the dagger away and simply got the female's attention, probably so she'd let her guard down. That wasn't assassin like at all in Arthur's opinion. "You just lost," Arthur thought to himself. "Let me show you how it's done." Since he thought the goal of the game was to tag the opponent, Arthur took out one of his throwing daggers. He was about to cheat to win the non-existent game.

Flipping the dagger around, Arthur aimed the handle at his target, since he wasn't trying to actually kill him. As he envisioned his target getting hit, he was oblivious to what anyone was actually saying. "Gotcha," Arthur thought as he threw his dagger. Lucky for everyone, Arthur actually got the aim right so that he didn't end up impaling somebody again. That happened sometimes...

The Letter

"Look out!"

Autumn pushed the man aside as a throwing dagger whizzed past them and fell on the ground a few meters away harmlessly. The man almost fell over, Autumn grabbing him by the arm and pulling him upwards. He seemed even more angry than when he had confronted her in the first place.

"Listen, I am not the pickpocket you're looking for. Truce until we find that bastard who almost killed us, agreed?"

Autumn forgot about her mark. She could point him out in a crowd if she needed to, if he had not been beheaded for his failure already. The delivery of the letter could wait.

The Letter

Postby Garin Campbell on August 28th, 2013, 2:17 am

Garin saw red for a moment. As she caught his arm, he drew his hand back to strike her. However, when he saw the knife, he paused. He then looked at her, dumbstruck. This woman, who he'd been ready to kill- possibly rape, first. One of his rare waves of guilt washed over him.

"You saved my life...Why?"

With a now blank stare. The very idea of her doing this seemed to stun him.

Failure. The dagger Arthur had thrown, which would have scored him an easy victory, missed its target. But it wasn't actually because Arthur's aim was off or anything. He was spot on. The only problem was that there was an interference...by the other girl in the "game." So of course Arthur jumped to conclusions.

He didn't even try to hide. Sure he'd been ducking behind a crate for the big throw, but because of the interference, he thought the game was over. "You dirty cheater!" Arthur called out as he jumped from his hiding place. "I'm calling you on that. Tag Team means both of you are disqualified. I win, you lose, so suck it!" Laughing to himself, he struck a little victory pose before switching to his victory dance. And what did he say when he was done? "So, rematch?"

Autumn walked up to him and punched him right in the face.

"Playing with peoples lives isn't a game you half wit! You're lucky I don't rob you blind right where you stand! Where are your weapons, we're taking them now. We'll leave you unarmed to rot."

Autumn pulled a dagger on the man and held it to his throat. She motioned to the other man.

"Check him."
