39 Winter, 514 AV
The leaves rattled as Firenze pounced.
Hold still! Why don’t you cooperate!
Another pounce, the muscles in her legs coiling and springing as she let the tension loose and kicked her feet off the ground. Her front paws came together, one slightly over the other and the pads of her feet landed on the cold ground. Eyes dilated and ears tipped forward so she could focus her energy.
Little feet skittered across the floor of the forest, the crunch of the snow under it’s paws light under the light little body. It’s tail followed the fat body, fear plastered on it’s face as it scurried to find a hiding spot where she couldn’t get to it.
A ragged dead looking bush scrapped across her side, the branches catching at her extra thick fur. Winter had come in full force and her body had already replaced her coat with thick dense fur. Her face framed with it, kept her from having to worry about the cold seeping in less than if she were in her human state. She’d began to prefer her natural form only because her fur protected her skin better than the tattered rags she’d bought at the market.
Another pounce and the little feet stopped moving as she put her weight on it’s body. A strong urge to play with it just to see if she could catch it again and try to hone her skills made her want to release it, but the need to eat won out. Food was becoming scarce because of the hard winter and she could afford to play with anything that she caught.
Checking to see if she could grab it with her teeth without letting it escape, she lifted a paw and stuck her nose between. Teeth scraped against the fur a few times and then finally caught. She pulled it out from under her grasp and wrapped her lips around it. The crunch giving signal that she’d ended it’s life as quick as she could. There was some remorse that she had to take a life, but the guilt didn’t last long as she reminded herself that it was sustenance and she needed it to survive. She could eat leafy things and vegetables if she needed, they didn’t really bother her but it didn’t seem to provide the kind of energy she needed as a nice piece of raw red meat.
Gulping the mouse down hoping that it would suffice until she could find something more she got up to continue searching for food.
