The Anvil of Souls is a very powerful magic item Magecrafted by Areesa Tallshade about 25 years before the Valterrian. Considered the very pinnacle of mortal Magecraft, the item is now lost, most likely hidden by its own creator. The Anvil of Souls, being the only known instance of a Gnosis mark granted by the elusive Lhex, is reputed to allow souls to escape the reincarnation cycle that takes place in the afterlife, giving birth to creatures - the so-called Outlings - that are outside the natural order of things. It is unknown how many people have ever used the Anvil, as Tallshade would rarely let people near the item, and there is much debate as to an Outling's true form, but they are likely immortal and resembling gods without god-like powers.
