Hapchance is the gnosis of Kelwyn and enables the marked on to create a random, miraculous occurrence.

Kelwyn and The Mark

Kel and Wyn, the sibling deities of Lost Causes, collectively called Kelwyn, work to keep mortals from their domain. They are old gods that have existed in a supporting role. They are the final straw and recipients of last prayers, as their solutions can sometimes be more severe than the problems one faces.

Kelwyn tend to mark those who are willing to take a gamble when all the odds are stacked against them. Wielding the mark requires an almost reckless amount of fearlessness and quick thinking, so the gods are careful to choose wielders with an adventurous spirit.

While Kelwyn will abide rascals and standard knaves, they are not inclined to help or mark those who have a malevolent spirit. They do not bestow negative marks, but are not above the occasional cosmic prank on those they don't care for.

Mechanics

At least one half of the pair will bestow the mark in person. The mark is given in times of crisis, prefaced by an inquiry as to the mortal’s willingness to take a chance or gamble. In the moment of the mark’s bestowal, a random change occurs. This miraculous event is accompanied by a colorful rain of light.

The mark can be activated at any time by the wielder using only his will, but with each use the mark dissipates. When the mark vanishes physically, the power leaves as well. A single mark will generally allow for six to eight uses.

Changes the activation can incur are temporary if mental and permanent if physical. For example, if you activate the mark and your captor is suddenly overcome with love for you, this effect is temporary and best be capitalized on quickly. But if the mark suddenly turns every weapon in the room, including yours, into fresh plums, your father’s sword is forever a snack.

Appearance

Ever moving.

The appearance of the mark is as random as the power it represents. It is usually a highly personal illustration on the skin. The constant aspects of the mark are its sense of motion and ability to unravel in some obvious way. Some followers have had trees full of fruit that drop with each activation, knots that slowly unwind or stars that twinkle out of existence.

No matter its shape, the mark also tends to move of its own volition. If it is a flock of birds, they will beat their wings, if a wheel, it will occasionally turn. Wielders are often disconcerted to find the mark will even migrate to different parts of the body.

Mark Progression

There is no progression or negative mark. Hapchance performs the same ability no matter how many times it is granted. Multiple marks only allow for more uses.
