Magonym

From Mizahar Lore

A magonym is a name taken by some famous wizards in the pre-Valterrian world when they felt their own name was not important or dignified enough for their standing. The typical reason for choosing a magonym was a humble background or a racial heritage considered inferior for a magic user. This practice is very ancient and was common in both Suvan and Alahea, though it is declining now since reputation and standing among their peers are not nearly as important for today's wizards. A magic user taking a magonym in the post-Valterrian world might even garner the hilarity of some.

Magonyms were obtained from the wizard's first name by adding some kind of suffix. For men, "-us" and "-on" were always the most popular; women often picked "-ea" and "-ria" instead. The mage discarded his or her last name upon taking the magonym, since that name was likely the one they could not carry without embarrassment. Some magonyms are still in use today, such as Sahgal Hrinn having to go by Sagallius due to his Benshira blood.
