Fungi
Optic Poppers are a unique mobile fungus with an addictive nature found in dark and damp environments. The fungus is edible, and gives a boost to eyesight which is amplified by the number eaten in living creatures, but also works to a lesser extent on Nuit and other Undead. They can often be found in jars in laboratories, and are a common gift and/or treat in Sahova.
Frequency: Common Threat Level: Low - Medium Major Features: small eye-like protrusions, usually a shade of orange, mobile fungus, incredibly delicious, addictive Abilities: Movement, enhance eye-sight by a multiple of how ever many you eat (too many may cause permanent damage to eyes upon reversion)
Chalak are dark blue to pale blue-gray mushrooms found near the Mudpools in Sahova. They are common and can also be found growing on the ground or trees.
The mushroom is brittle and tends to break easily. The flesh is pallid to bluish in color, but slowly turns green upon exposure to air. The milk that oozes when the mushroom tissue is cut or sliced is harvested as a philter ingredient. It is not poisonous, and in fact, is edible. It has a slightly bitter, peppery taste with a coarse, greasy, grainy texture that "melts in the mouth". Frequency: Common Threat Level: Very low Major Features: Brittle, blue/gray, peppery taste Abilities: Used as a philter for Cupellation
Drimik is commonly found in the branches and trunks of trees. They have creamy brown kidney-shaped caps that measure up to 3 in. They are easily spotted at night, due to their bio-luminescent gills and caps.
It is too bitter to be edible. Its acrid taste causes uncomfortable drying in the mouth. When ingested, Drimik can cause a nauseating taste in the throat, making it a viable medicine to induce vomiting. Frequency: Common Threat Level: Low Major Features: Bio-luminescent Abilities: Used as a medication to induce vomiting
Foulstars have six arms which can be of varying shades of red. Its white pinkish stalk contains an odorless dirty-white slime. Foulstars are rare and can only be found in caves or subterranean environment.
Foulstars may be pressed or philtered to extract the odorless, thin, white slime. It can be used to create a poison similar to Engeron Bane, a poison(L2) that causes unconsciousness. Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Medium Major Features: Six arms, white slime Abilities: Can be made into a poison which induces unconsciousness
Gormtongues resemble a snake's pronged tongue. It is a type of slimy fungi that grows near mudpools. It can grow up to 2 ft long, and appears to be a big earthworm at a glance. The tip of its stalk produces brown slime, a common ingredient for Poison.
When mixed with seawater and aged for a season in a tightly-sealed jar, Gormtongue slime emulsifies into a paste that can be used to create the poison(L2) Wobblebus, which causes temporary loss of balance. Frequency: Common Threat Level: Low Major features: Snake-like body, slimy Abilities: Can produce a poison to hinder balance
Orletta is a fungi endemic to Sahova. They grow in colonies and are responsible for the rusty-red color of some of the areas in Sahova. They start as a cluster of small hard boils and grow into carpets of round brick-like structures, covering large areas of Shaova’s terrain such as cliffs and hills.
Upon maturity, they break out and form slimy bloody-appearing ringlets. These ringlets are known to emit a bitter almond aroma that induces hallucinogenic trips in some living creatures. The product can be addictive, and prolonged inhalation of spores may cause the destruction of blood cells. Frequency: Very Common Threat Level: High when mature Major Features: Rusty-red color, form ringlets, nutty smell Abilities: Induces hallucinations, addictive, destroys blood cells
Roiza grow on decaying sticks in damp spots on forest floors. They are hard to spot because they are usually buried under leaf litter. They appear during the Winter and early Spring.
The stalks and outer surface are lighter in color. The inner cup contains red greasy granules that are harvested to make red dye. Its insubstantial fruit body and low numbers do not make it recommendable for consumption, but it is edible nonetheless. When Roiza are dried and ground into a powder, it serves as a styptic- a drug that arrests hemorrhage and bleeding. Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Very low Major Features: Red pouches containing granules Abilities: Can be crafted into red dye, eaten, stops hemorrhages and bleeding
The Shanruk is also called the Folded Flesh because of its texture and color. It is easily spotted because of this, and turns bright orange in the dark due to bio-luminescence. The Shanruk cannot be cultivated in lab environments, and is only present in the Testing Grounds.
It has a mild peppery scent and irritates the skin upon contact. Drinking a potion with Shankruk as an added ingredient might cause loss of muscle control or temporary paralysis. Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Medium Major Features: Bright orange, bio-luminescent, peppery scent Abilities: Irritates skin, can cause muscle spasms or paralysis
Snow Skirts grow on dead, attached or recently fallen branches of Sahovan trees. The texture is gelatinous, watery white with dark green specs. Snow Skirts lack any distinct taste or smell, although they have proven edible. When harvested, they can be turned into odorless viscous gel that is used as a solvent.
Frequency: Common Threat Level: Very low Major Features: Gelatinous body, white Abilities: Can be used as solvent
Waat's Nest is a non-poisonous fungi. Its body resembles a tiny egg-filled bird's nest. The cup-shaped fungi may range from white, tan, or grey. The pebble-sized ovate spores contain minute wrinkles. These are attached to the body by a thin gray film.
Waat's Nest is a mild aphrodisiac. Eating it raw may cause increased sexual libido for a short time period. This property is lost when boiled. Extracting the oil that stimulates sexual arousal is possible through Philtering. Frequency: Low Threat Level: Low Major Features: Dull color, resembles a bird's nest Abilities: Mild aphrodisiac
Yellow Disco is a detritus feeder in the Sahovan environment. They are known to grow on decomposing organic matter like rotting wood. They have the ability to extract poisonous organic components, concentrating toxins in their body.
Yellow Disco that become saturated with toxic pollutants turn into a pale yellow gelatinous ooze that is used to make the poison(L3) Meatshake, which causes severe trembling on the fingers or hands of the victim. Frequency: Low Threat Level: Low-Medium (When full) Major Features: Bright yellow Abilities: Extract poisons, produce toxic gelatinous ooze |
Vines
Cat's foot is an aromatic evergreen creeper. It thrives in moist shaded places and is an established aggressive, adventitious ground cover. It is usually found forming dense mats in the forests of the Testing Grounds.
The essential oil of Cat's foot is a potent tonic for colds and coughs. This minty weed is also used as a salad green. The fresh herb can be rinsed and steeped in boiling water to create an herbal tea. It has a distinct, mild minty-peppery flavor. Frequency: Common Threat Level: Very Low Major Features: Aromatic (minty and peppery), aggressive grower Abilities: Oil for coughs/colds, edible
Fiveleaf Ivy is a climbing plant that is used as a food source by some insects and small birds. This prolific climber procudes small purple flower clusters in late spring which mature into tiny purplish-black berries during fall. These berries are moderately poisonous to humans and other mammals. The leaves can be boiled into an herbal remedy for diarrhea.
Fiveleafs cannot climb smooth surfaces and can only be found in shrubs and small trees. Frequency: Common Threat Level: Low Major Features: Purple flowers, purple-black berries Abilities: Mildly poisonous berries, leaves good for diarrhea
Kelma's Joy is a vigorous, long-stemmed, woody, climbing vine that is rooted in the soil at ground level and climbs up tall trees in order to get access to well-lit canopies. These climbers often form bridges between trees, providing certain animals, such as lizards, rodents, monkeys, and lemurs paths across the forest.
It competes intensely with trees, and trees with these vines are usually stunted. This is because they damage their hosts by strangulation which directly makes them more susceptible to falling due to the weight. Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Low-Medium (for plant life) Major Features: Climb to well-lit areas, wraps around trees, large flowers Abilities: Strangles plants and trees, provides bridges for small animals
File:Winter Blue's | Winter Blue's are an edible berry found in the Forest of Thorns predominantly in the Winter. It is unknown how exactly these berries were created, or when, but it is believed that a Nuit Alchemist who was a Vantha when alive missed eating snow. To make up for this they created a berry that, when eaten, simulates the sensations of eating a handful of snow all at once. This will inevitably give anything that eats it intense brainfreeze for a few ticks to a few chimes, depending on how many berries are eaten at once.
While the taste of the cold and snow is lessened for Nuit, the effects of the brainfreeze are not, and it is said that only Vantha are capable of eating these without getting one. Frequency: Rare, Common in Winter Threat Level: Low Major Features: Blue berries, frosty-looking bushes Abilities: Edible, Induces Brainfreeze |
Rechipechi is a type of vine that grows on tree trunks. Its leaf color ranges from light green to dark green, turning bright red or orange in fall. Rechipechi leaves often cause severe itching that develops blistering rashes. The red roots, when crushed and philtered, produces pale green oil that can cause muteness.
Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Medium-High (if ingested) Major Features: Bright colors, grows on tree trunks Abilities: Causes rashes and blisters, produces oil that leads to muteness |
Shrubs and Small Trees
Erikarea is a hairy, woody shrub, with a typical height of 6 - 15 ft. It is covered in pale short, leathery, needle-like evergreen leaves. The light pink bell-shaped flowers appear between the leaves singly or in small clusters. Its wood is commonly used for making smoking pipes
Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Very Low Major Features: Pink bell-shaped flowers, needled Abilities: Resilient wood used for smoking pipes
Hayuns are low growing shrubs about 2 ft. tall that dominate the island. It can grow as a fire-climax plant, which readily catches fire but re-grows from the roots after the fire. Their extreme exposure to Sahovan experiments have made them slightly resilient to strong djed releases.
Fields of Hayuns are important food sources for various small and medium Sahovan animals. Sahovan research has revealed that some of the animals that has Hayun in its diet are often feral mutants. Frequency: Very Common Threat Level: Low Major Features: Pale flowers, low-growing Abilities: Easily flammable, Djed resistant
The Kakeba Palmetto is a type of fan palm usually seen in groves or near the coasts of the island. They have short and sturdy trunks and rounded fans of numerous pointy leaflets.
The Kakeba produces branched panicles of 300-500 small, round, black-purple fruits. These are smaller than a grape but with less pulp. They are harvested as food and may be dried, preserved, or eaten with honey. Frequency: Common Threat Level: Very Low Major Features: Hundreds of small black fruits, palm leaves Abilities: Edible fruits
Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants in Mizahar. It can grow up to 15 ft. tall with long leaves. The showy bright pink flowers grow in clusters at the tip of the branches.
Tasting, chewing, ingesting portions of the plant, most especially the sap and nectar, can cause lethal reactions. Typical symptoms of Oleander poisoning by ingesting plant parts include excessive salivation, nausea and vomiting, erratic heartbeats, and diarrhea. Oleander sap can cause skin irritations, severe eye inflammation and irritation. Frequency: Very Rare Threat Level: High Major Features: Bright pink flowers, 15 ft. Tall Abilities: Highly poisonous sap and nectar |
Trees
Sahovan Acacias are tall thorny trees that grow wild in the arid areas of Sahova. Aside from providing timber and firewood, Acacia has a variety of uses. Its bark, root, and resin can be made into a variety of items such as incense and medicine. Oil extracts from the leaves and the bright yellow flowers yield a weak psychoactive chemical. An Acacia tree may serve as a home for ants or bees. Honey from Sahovan Acacia has a characteristic strong taste and an unusual jelly texture. The thick viscous honey turns into syrup when stirred, shaken, or agitated but returns into a gelatinous form after a while. This makes the extraction of the honey from the comb difficult, and it is often harvested as comb honey instead.
Frequency: Very Common Threat Level: Very Low Major Features: Bright yellow flowers, tall, dry Abilities: Many common uses, home to kinds of animals
Gnarled Junipers are varied juniper trees that have been greatly exposed to magic. They are immediately noticeable due to their twisted, knotted, or gnarly trunks. Gnarled Junipers have short, fat, needle-like evergreen leaves with very small berry-like cones.
The trees look like they are twisting in agony, usually bending down towards the ground. The exposed lumber have been found to aid the manipulation of djed effectively; the gnarly branches are ideal for making wands and staves. Frequency: Rare Threat Level: Low Major Features: Twisted by Djed, berry-like cones Abilities: Capable of manipulating Djed |
