Will Alaine

Basic Information
Race: Human
Birthday & Age : 15 years old- born 36th day of Fall, 495AV
Gender: Male

Physical Description
Will is small. Short in stature, he only stands at five feet, one inch. That isn’t to say he won’t grow more as he ages, but as things stand, he can easily duck through a crowd of adults. He is, however, no weak child. Lean muscle stretches across his body, providing a sinuous figure and plenty of juvenile strength. A young man whose survival has depended on stealth, Will can almost always be seen dressed in shades of gray, all the way from his tunic to the soft, doe-skin slippers covering his feet. Even his cloak is reminiscent of slate, though at night it can often be mistaken for black.

How do you discern one child from the many you see roaming the streets of Sunberth? By features, of course. Luckily for Will, his features are nothing special. His face is ordinary- one you could see on the street and forget about soon after. His dull blue eyes are as unremarkable as his stringy black hair and straight nose. His most remarkable feature are his ears, and not because of their shape. They do, unfortunately, pop out from his head in a most peculiar manner. He has grown his hair out to compensate for that.

Character Concept
Will’s life was not an easy one. He spent most of his childhood pretending to be an adult just to cope with the lot that fate, or the Gods, threw at him. An orphan from a young age, a fairly common occurrence in a city without law, Will learned early that to survive you must be able to slip under the detection of those around you. He learned the ways of pick pocketing and thievery, which were the only real options given to him. He was part of a ‘family’ of thieves, mostly children, who were housed and fed by a cunning beggar- if you could call him that- named Three-Finger Clod.

Now that he is beginning to show signs of growth and maturity, Will has been cast out of his not-so-welcoming ‘family.’ Who would notice a child, running along busy streets, carrying a message or running an errand? No one. But a cracking voices and gangly limbs are much more noticeable, and Clod could not take that chance.

One night, Will accidentally overheard a conversation between Clod and a shadowy figure. They were discussing terms for his sale into the slavery pens. No person, child or not, would allow themselves to be sold like chattel willingly- and Will was not going to be the first. Using all the skills he had learned, Will snuck from the abandoned ruin in which his ‘family’ was sleeping for the night- a regretful look cast at the children he was leaving behind. He had time only to grab two things: a rusty punch dagger and hidden cache of 500 gold-rimmed mizas. Adventures do not call to him, merely the hope of freedom and survival drive him from now on- and perhaps the chance to one day return and free his ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ from Clod’s machinations.

Character History
Will has little recollection of his first years of life, having been thrust into the tumultuous role of thief early. His parents he barely knew. When he was six years old, they were taken to the slave pens. He didn’t know why and never had the means to find out. A week or so on the street begging for food or shelter left him easy prey for Three-Finger Clod. The man took him in, under his wing so to speak, to train as one of his pick pockets. The kindness turned out to be no such thing, however, as Will was worked to the bone, forced to collect a quota of mizas per day or beaten and left without supper. It was no life of luxury for him, oh no. Out of all the children raised by Clod, Will has seen five die. A scarred and fiercely troubled youth, after the first death Will could not bear to get close to anybody, even those he lived with. His innocence was long abandoned, replaced by only a shrewd and animalistic sense of survival.
