[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Coren on August 21st, 2011, 6:27 pm

24th of summer 511
Location The temple of everwinter.

Coren angrily stomped towards the entrance of the temple of everwinter, the normally calming scenery doing not a thing to calm down the normally even tempered coren. His mother and father where really going to far right now, he did what they asked and got a petching job and he was paying for his own things now so why the hell did they think they could get away with looking down on him just because he wasn't good at nor had any interest in the skills their hold was famous for? It was his life and by morwen he was going to live it as he wanted, not as his parents told him to live it!

Throwing back his omnipresent hood, showing a shaggy mop of black hair with faint green highlights, as a sign of respect towards morwen, though not even thinking of removing the leather facemask covering the lower half of his face, there where limits to what he was willing to do out of respect. Maybe if she personally asked to take it of he would but she wasn't looking right now anyway so only lowering his hood would be enough in his opinion.
As he saw the barren floor again he could almost hit himself in the head, he visited the temple fairly regularly so how in morwen's name could he forget to bring something to sit on? Letting out an annoyed sigh he looked around for lee'ena, she always had a few pillows to loan for the people who didn't bring one with them. It didn't take to long for him to find her, still stewing in anger he walked over, trying not to show himself to hostile towards her.
“Excuse me, lee'ena? Could I borrow one of the pillows? I forgot to bring my own today.” he asked in the most kind voice he could muster today, still it was obvious he was in a bad mood.
“Well... sure, wait here fore a moment.” Ignoring the weird look he got from the priestess, either from his bad mood or the fact he was wearing a facemask he didn't care, he just waited till she came back and handed him a small red well worn pillow.
“Thank you very much.” Coren gave her a small nod before turning around and walked towards one of the corners of the temple, far away from anybody else who was trying to get spiritually closer to morwen. He just wanted to be alone for a while and cool his head.

[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Silvy on August 23rd, 2011, 5:14 am

She lifted her keen nose to the sky, taking in the scents around her and sorting them quickly. Silvy was about half a click from the temple and although she was eager to get there, she didn't look forward to changing to human form. It was good manners, Renaria had told her, to change to human form for places of prayer.

Tall firs scratched the belly of the clear blue sky and a cool breeze ruffled her silvery fur like nature's own caress. Just for the joy of it, she broke into a sprint and felt her muscles and sinew stretch and contract to their fullest use. The young kelvic wished she could run forever across the incredible landscape of Avanthal, the place she called home.

All too swiftly, she arrived at the temple and stopped to give herself a brisk shake. Bright lights engulfed her form and she rapidly shifted to a woman kneeling in the snow. With clumsy haste, she pulled out her dove gray grown and cloak. Silvy scooted in the snow, scrunching up her nose at the ridiculous effort that clothing always took to put on. When she finally got her boots on, she shivered lightly as she stood up.

Her eyes turned to pools of mercury as she scanned the building and nearby surroundings. No prey or predators in sight. Impatiently she pushed back an errant lock of silvery hair from her face and she listened intently. The sound of snow melting off the tree branches and low murmuring voices from the temple confirmed her near solitude.

Slowly and silently, she walked into the temple, pulling down her hood. She stood a long chime at the doorway, giving her eyes and ears time to adjust to the difference in light and the feeling of inside.

The young woman shifted to the side and walked with cautious steps, still always a bit wary of doing or saying something that would alarm the Vantha. They'd always been so kind to her since she was a cub, and she was careful not to offend anyone.

Her swift silver eyes caught the impatient and irritated gestures of a young man receiving a pillow. His actions were abrupt and his tone seemed clipped and surly. Silently she stood still and watched him, curious why someone in such a beautiful temple could be so irritated.

Coren didn't notice the newcomer in the temple and thus didn't notice her staring at him while he was trying to calm himself down, which probably was a good thing for her thanks to his bad mood.
Slowly taking deep breaths he tried to put the argument with his family that he had a few moments back out of his mind, desperately trying to cling to anything that might let him forget the argument with his parent's a few chimes ago. To no avail, no matter how many times he shaked away the biting words thrown at him and focused his thoughts on the beautiful scenery of the boardwalk or the breathtaking sculptures standing in the sculpture yard, there was always something about those images that for some reason confronted him with the same shortcomings of his that his parent's always nagged and yelled about. And from that it was an easy path back to the harsh words they said during the argument. Inevitably leading to his anger flaring up again and all his work to calm himself down was for nothing.

“Why the PETCH can't I forget about it!” Coren growled out, the the loud curse was easily heard through the entire temple and almost everybody else who was there gave him a dissaproving look, not approving of the fact he just cursed in the temple of morwen.
“Eh... sorry bout that.” He muttered as he once again tried to focus on getting his mind of his parent's and their moronic vieuws.

The young woman had intended to soak in the peace of the awe inspiring temple, but with the noise, it was not to be. Curiosity of Vanthan nature moved her forward in her own peculiar digitigrade steps. Silently she followed several paces behind, her soft grey clothing lending itself to the innate shadows her instincts led her to.

Normally Silvy would find herself lost in the amazing sculptures every time, but the young man was exhibiting a strange behavior she'd seen more often lately. Making noise and talking -on purpose- when you were entirely by yourself! The young kelvic just couldn't quite understand this phenomenon to announce your presence to unknown possible predators.

The annoyingly itchy and cumbersome clothing bothered her, but she knew it was a social, necessary evil. She felt her skin deprived of the breeze's gentle touch and her senses seemed so much more dulled in this form. There were only two things this human form was good for; a higher vantage point for seeing and the ability to speak.

Her silver eyes watched Coren's noisy perambulations about the boardwalk, that ignored the carefully sculpted beauty which normally held her enthralled.
His sudden outburst startled her and she bared her slightly sharp teeth in a grimace of fear. To a human it look like a savage baring of elongated sharp looking teeth, but to another wolf, it illustrated her instant fear. She clutched at her skirts nervously, holding herself very still. If the man was violent she would have to run in human form. The thought dismayed her because just walking with only two legs without falling was difficult enough. Silvy kept her teeth partially bared and her mouth slightly opened to better take in his scent. She held her breath. And waited.

[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Coren on August 25th, 2011, 11:26 pm

Coren's following attempts at clearing his mind worked out as well as before, though thankfully the amount of time he spend trying to push the harsh words of his parent's out of his mind and the rather calming influence of temple everwinter did cool his temper enough that he wasn't liable to kick somebody in the teeth because he accidentally said something that grated on his nerves. And that was something to be gratefull about, he didn't suddenly want to completely lose it and lash out with his projection to some innocent vantha. What if his mom or father got word of the fact he used magic of any kind?

Coren let out a long sigh as he stared at the wall's, wondering what he should go and do when the day ended, he didn't want to go back home and possibly face his parents but he didn't know anybody that would give him a place to sleep without some explanation why. And even then his father and mother would most likely find where he was hiding with ease. Coren couldn't help to let out a short amused snort at that thought, it was kinda pathetic that a 24 year old vantha still didn't dare to stand up to his own parent's. He shook of that thought and brought his mind back to the fact he had to find a place to sleep for tonight and he most likely wasn't going to find one by looking at the walls of the temple. He stood back up and let his gaze wander through the temple, looking for lee'ena so that he could return her pillow and noticed a woman... baring her teeth at him? Coren blinked once in confusion before shrugging and walking towards her. She probably was angry at him because he cursed out loud in the temple so probably should go and apologize, if there was one thing pissing his mom off taught him it was never to piss of a woman ,at least not without a good reason, even the strange ones that bared their teeth at others.

“Ah.... I'm sorry for cursing out loud a while ago, didn't mean to make you mad.” Coren said in an apologetic tone. “I hope I didn't offend you or anything.” Coren just waited patiently for her answer, making sure he was out of her reach . He didn't know how hard she could punch or kick and honestly he didn't want to find out either.

[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Silvy on August 26th, 2011, 10:05 pm

Belatedly, the petite young Kelvic woman realized she'd been grimacing at the approaching Vantha, and quickly closed her mouth. He smelled of fear and the young woman felt bad that she'd caused it. She watched him as he paused with a more than respectable amount of personal space between them. He must be very frightened too. She blushed guiltily at making a Vantha afraid when they'd always been so nice to her. She wondered if she should've stayed in wolf form.

Silvy had liked the Vantha the moment she'd first met one and found them quite agreeable--at least when she was in wolf form. She hadn't spent much time in human interaction, so everything was painfully new. It made her very shy and a bit uneasy, but her two legged form was her only option in order to speak.

Mad? What was he talking about? Was there some hidden thing to be angry over that she just didn't know yet? Her confusion only lasted a few chimes until she realized her unnatural smile. A delicate rose tinted her cheeks in embarrassment and she looked down.

'I wasn't behaving human enough for him to read me. I get all the body postures wrong as a human! I'm trying to learn, but the moment I learn a new thing, two more pop up.'

She brushed back a long shiny strand of hair from her silver eyes, catching the man's gaze for only a swift moment. If her teeth made him think she was mad, she didn't want to risk full eye contact and have him think she was giving a challenge. In a quiet voice, husky from disuse, she answered,

"Sorry? Why? I suppose all Vantha speak like that, yes?" The young woman blinked, not understanding him fully.

"Mad? Oh no, not at all. I..I am a Kelvic wolf and even in human shape, I sometimes make a fear grimace when I'm suddenly startled. You frightened me when you spoke abruptly in the silence of these walls."

She said with frank honesty. The girl had no idea how to lie or even what an untruth would be. It was something wolves just didn't do.

"What is cursing?" Silvy tilted her head to one side in a very distinctly canine gesture of curiosity.

[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Coren on August 28th, 2011, 12:49 am

Coren was really confused when instead of the angry glare and a grudging acceptance of his appology he was met with a blush and a reluctance of the woman to meet his eyes and when she finally did speak up in a quiet voice that sounded as if she hadn't used it in forever made him arch his eyebrow. Well at least it was clear that there was some kind of mixup here, not to mention the fact that her vantha sounded a bit stilted and stiff to. Maybe she was a foreigner with a completely differen't culture? The confusion about that last thing didn't last to long though, since she called herself a wolf kelvic in the next sentence and explained she was just frightenend by his outburst a few moments ago.

“ah... Well sorry for that then.” Coren said, embarrassment easily audible in his voice. “I didn't mean to scare you at all. Oh and before I forget, my name is coren.” He held out his hand for her to shake, hoping she would at least know that gesture. When she innocently asked what cursing was coren just blankly stared at her in shock. He knew that kelvic that didn't grow under the icewatch tutelage usually where unknowing and most of the times rather dim but he wouldn't have guessed it would have been this bad! He let out a small sigh and shook his head in dismay. Well what kind of person was he if he didn't fix that hole in her knowledge.

“Well...” Coren carefully thought about how he should try to explain this. “Cursing is the act of using a curse word, which are offensive words that one uses if one is agitated or angry. There are a lot of those words and every culture and language has their own specific ones. Though there are words used across languages. Like the one I used a few moments ago Petch.” He ignored the few foul looks that where sent to his direction. “Better not curse in public places if you can help it though, its usually frowned upon.” The hypocrisy in that statement went completely unnoticed by coren though.

"Coren, oh yes, I am named Silvy."

She looked at the hand for a moment and was thankful that Renaria had at least shown her the basics. She didn't like that Vantha thought her a very foolish human, but she supposed they would seem very foolish as wolves. The young young woman placed her slender hand to his in the briefest of touches.

"I don't understand how a word can be offensive. It is only a word. Why is petch a curse word? Does it mean something horrible?" Silvy asked curiously. The young Kelvic didn't notice the irritated glances her way when she repeated the words, she only wanted to know why it was a bad thing.

"So you should only curse when you're alone? Do the same words mean more when you're around others who hear you?"

Her kelvic friend had never mentioned the idea of cursing before and she still wasn't sure why a word would have so much power to offend only when used in the hearing of others. It didn't make a bit of sense and she looked at Coren's eyes as if searching for the answer. Although she was colorblind, the movement fascinated her. Vantha always had such wonderful moving eyes. They swirled and sped up and slowed down all on their own! It must be like when I have my tail. When I'm a wolf, I know it's there and it's just a part of me that helps me communicate, steers me when I run and keeps me warm when I sleep.

The clothing made her itchy and uncomfortable but she tried to be as polite as she could when in human form. Being human was sometimes far more trouble than it was worth just to speak.

[Temple everwinter]Meeting the wolf (Silvy)

Postby Coren on September 1st, 2011, 4:59 pm

Coren smiled at silvy as she introduced herself, not offended in the least that she pulled back as soon as she could from the handshake, wolves never where to keen on humans as far as he heard. So maybe that trait also carried over to her personality, she was mostly a wolf after all. When she voiced the fact that she didn't understand why a word could be offensive he scratched his head, he really didn't have a clue how the heck the should be explaining that!
“Well,” coren started, sounding a bit unsure. “Words can be offensive for various reasons, for example if I said to a carver that his work wasn't worth a pile of shyke he probably would be offended, especially if he worked long and hard on his carvings. Words like petch carry the same meaning as that, but they offend everyone. Don't ask me why everybody is offended by it though, I honestly don't know that.” Coren said with an embarased chuckle he wasn't really sure he answered her question correctly but just pushed on. Hoping that if he screwed up her bondmate, if she had one, would correct those little mistakes.
“And some people would like that you don't curse at all, or at least do it when nobody can hear it but most of us ignore them and curse when we are angry or when things really go bad.” Coren paused for a few moments, both to wrack his brain for any little tidbit of information that he could use to clarify what he just tried to let silvy understand and to let her think about what he just said.
“Well silvy, is it a bit more clear right now? Or do you still have a bunch of questions because what I said didn't make a sense at all?” Coren said in a friendly tone.

Secret :
OOC: So sorry for the wait Jokor! I'm still adjusting to balancing AS duties with personal threads.

The young Kelvic nodded, getting an inkling of the intention behind Coren's words.
"So it's like when you growl because you're upset, but if another wolf isn't paying attention, they'll suddenly wonder why you would do that. Like word growling?"

She watched the young Vantha, noting his intent posture and sincere tone of voice.

'This must be a very important subject for him to put so much attention on it. I wonder if this happens a lot. Is it a Vantha taboo to speak growl words like that? But it can't be enforced or too serious because he cursed more than once and used petch more than once. Will humans ever make sense to me?'

"Yes I understand a little better, I think. So what made you want to say petch? What has made you unhappy enough to say a curse word?" Her silvery eyes scanned the temple and found nothing within to explain why he would be angry or upset.
