Chaos on the Plains [Merenwen, Ronan Windsong]

The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

"I found her... dead in the camp," Ronan said slowly, avoiding staring at the corpse. "Who knows how long she's been like that... but look at the dagger."

He glanced at his companions, Matthial stalwart, Merenwen drifting in and out of consciousness.

"A black dagger." He paused, allowing his words to sink in. The rain had slowed, but the chaos behind them still lay firmly in their minds. "An assassins dagger..."

Chaos on the Plains [Merenwen, Ronan Windsong]

Postby Matthial on September 12th, 2011, 4:13 pm

Matthial blinked as he paused the catch his breath. Assassins? What where hired killers doing in Endrykas? It made little sense to him. As he panted over the kelvic's shoulder the man looked at the woman, trying to determine what to do with her.

"Uh.. well.. what do you want to do?"

Then he noticed the child. The young boy was shaking visibly. It was up for debate as to wether he was more frightened of the body, or the three walking corpses approaching him. Using his free hand to motion towards himself Matthial smiled at the child.

"C'mon youngin' lets take you home."

Still panting heavily he waited for Ronan's response.

Chaos on the Plains [Merenwen, Ronan Windsong]

Postby Merenwen on September 12th, 2011, 9:05 pm

Merenwen managed to squeeze out from under Matthial's grip. She groaned as she did, feeling the strange mixture of hot and cold slip over her skin. The glimmer of sweat shone off of her body as she huffed, curling up on the ground. She just wanted to sleep. She wanted to go home, and sleep, and wake up to food by her head. Her head pounded uncomfortably as she winced. Her bloodied wounds felt like glass had been sprinkled into them. The past few events felt like a blur of mixed pictures waivering in her mind's eye. What exactly had happened?

She listened as Ronan and Matthial spoke. Assassins, the boy, a murdered woman, a dagger... What did it all have in common? There had to be some underlying reason for the mess of things that had befallen them. She cast her eyes skyward as she caught her breath, taking her time to regenerate. A short cough escaped her as she rolled fully onto her back, watching the others. Eventually she spoke.

"You can do what you see fit for the body and the boy... I don't think I will be of much more service to you, and at this point I will surely only be slowing you down." A wave of guilt crept up into her chest, seizing her heart. "I can't do this. I just need to sleep."

Chaos on the Plains [Merenwen, Ronan Windsong]

Postby Ronan on September 18th, 2011, 4:36 pm

Ronan looked across at Merenwen - it seemed the Kelvic had been through a very rough time indeed. She looked drained and pale. As he continued to watch the woman carefully, Matthial shepherded the boy away from the body, heading back out of the gully towards Endrykas.

As they walked he realised that he had to tell someone about the black daggers. If there were assassins operating in Cyphrus, action had to be taken. Decisive and true, justice would come to the rolling plains he called home.

He turned back to the body before leaving the gully. He couldn't carry it all the way back to the city, but he felt a stab to his heart at the thought of just leaving her to rot in the elements.

Sama'el was of the Watch... he could tell the youth, and the members of the Watch could bring the body back to Endrykas for a proper funeral too. He made a vow to avenge this woman and find some answers at the same time. Today had ended in tragedy. Tomorrow could only end in justice.
