Physical Description
Standing at a hair under six feet tall and athletically built, Krauss is not particularly imposing in a purely physical sense, but carries an air of quiet confidence that many find either intimidating or comforting, depending on whose side he is on. Handsome in a rugged sort of way, he keeps his dark blond hair cropped short on the sides in a mercenary cut. His muddy green eyes rarely rest on anything for very long, constantly checking his surroundings, hinting at cautious nature. Covered in old scars that tell the story of a lifetime of pain and hardship, he goes out of his way to keep them covered rather than treasuring them as marks of bravery the way many warriors would.

Character Concept
The sole survivor of a once-renowned mercenary company, Krauss has been left to find his own way in the world as the last remaining Trouble Hunter. Still living by the unbendable code of ethics taught to him by men now dead and gone, his driving motivation in this harsh world is to ensure that the Trouble Hunters are never forgotten. After all, a man's not truely dead while his name is still spoken.

Personality
Krauss almost seems to have multiple personalities, given how much his demeanor changes with different situations. He even thinks of the varying aspects of his own personality as seperate people, though he never actually says so. The first is the one he thinks of as the Soldier. Cold, professional, and pragmatic, the Soldier comes out when needed, typically when blood needs to be shed and someone has to die. The second is the Storyteller, the side of him that loves nothing more than sitting around a campfire with a pint of mead in one hand, a good woman in his lap (or a skillfully bad woman, if he can find one), surrounded by comrades in arms who appriciate being regaled with tales of blood and victory. The Storyteller is quick with a laugh, quicker with an off-color joke, and doesn't care in the slightest for the nasty hangover that will undoubtably follow the next morning. The third is the Survivor, the side that keeps him going and that he tries to hide beneath the blood and booze of the other two. Morose, in constant grief for his lost comrades who never recieved the heroes' burial they deserved, and striving for a way to make the world remember the name of the Trouble Hunters.

Character History
The only son of Johan and Kalia Muhe-Jager, members of the Trouble Hunter mercenary clan, Krauss was literally raised for war. Trained at a young age in the clan's signiture weapons, the spear and shield, and raised on a steady stream of old war stories and tales of blood and glory, it was little surprise when he was awarded the honor of the clan armor at the early age of fifteen.

The Trouble Hunters, known for their discipline in battle and unbending sense of honor in their contracts, got most of their work from the merchants traveling through Zeltiva, and earned a reputation rooting out bandits and pirates that plagued the trade routes in the area. The clan went wherever the work took them, and the closest thing Krauss had to a home were the temporary camps the clan would build anywhere they were stationed long enough to build rough palisade walls and put down tent stakes. Their numbers fluctuated as they gained and lost members, but stayed near the 200-man mark.

In the winter of 509 AV, the Trouble Hunters met their end. Heavily outnumbered by the collection of pirates and raiders who had finally allied to stand against them, the Trouble Hunters fought to the last man and made their enemies pay dearly for the priviledge of killing them. Krauss survived because he was ordered to take the banner and flee, so that someone would be left to remember the dead.

Leaving Zeltiva, he has survived by selling his blade to the highest bidder, though he has turned down numerous contracts out of ethics, and has had to gut a few would-be employers who didn't want to take no for an answer.

Notes:
For the skill Spear & Shield, I was looking for less of a "massed pikemen" kind of spear use that a regular Spear skill would suggest, and more of a Greek/Spartan style, incorporating powerful spear thrusts with shield bashes to keep the enemy from closing in too close to stab. Admittedly, the limit of my understanding of the style is what I learned from watching Deadliest Warrior (Spartan vs Ninja episode) and adapting it for the local LARP group. That being said, the injury data that Deadliest Warrior found was impressive, to say the least.

For the Trouble Hunter's banner, I used the price listed for the signal banner.
