It is SO HARD to be as cool as me. Very few accomplish it.

PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

Tragedy

A few scraps ago I talked about the meaning of tragedy to me. There's been several in August and September this year. I haven't said anything about them and maybe I shouldn't because they aren't really Mizahar related. But its my scrap and I guess I have it on my mind so it should go in here. I'm in one of those moods today where I'm looking for something more in life and finding nothing I'm resorting to playing my favorite music and mellowing out. I love The Band Perry who has probably one of the best death songs out there. I'll play it for you. And I think I'll play it in honor of all those people that died these last two months so tragically. I'm talking about the fairgrounds collapse in high winds at the State Fair back east in Indianapolis. The Reno Airshow crash a couple of days ago is particularly close to my heart. I've been there at the Air Show and camel races. Ten years ago I was something of a thrill seeker and always went to these types of things. Reno was one of my favorite trips. I can't imagine how hard it was for those people in that situation.

So, here's The Band Perry. They are up and coming, but taking the Country Scene by storm.

I'm not a HUGE fan of country but I really do like this song. I've heard it before a couple times and it really stuck out to me. It is a really beautiful song about such a tragic topic such as death.

This is a song that I always listen to when I am down or think of people I love who have passed on. I have posted it in my own scrapbook a few times. I remember the first time I heard it I was blow away and I seriously just started crying. It is just one of those songs that gets you right down to the soul. It least is did for me and I hope you like it. It's called "Opie's Funeral Song" by Sufjan Stevens. He has said at his concerts that is was written about a boy he went to school with who died.

"I'm burning and I'm blacking my lungs.
Boy you know it feels good with fire back on your tongue."

Saying Yes In The Help Desk
Otherwise known as... I hate saying 'No'.

I'm a tad bit angry this morning. I shouldn't be angry because its my birthday and birthday goodness awaits me later in the day. I'm going to be making some pendulums at my friends house if I can beg off getting there early in order to do the deed. I'll post some pics later. Anyhow, back to the help desk. I get frustrated and sad first and foremost because it seems that a great deal of the tickets tend to ask for 'leeway' outside of the lore. What? Yes, this means that many times people read the lore, find it doesn't suit them, and then go off on inventive creative adventures developing things that really don't suit the gaming world or the location/situation they are trying to get approval for. This forces someone in the help desk, usually me, to gently tell them no. And frankly, it often makes us come off as elitist or assholes even if we are gentle or only simply say no. The same is often true for gnosis requests as well. By and large I'd say 85-90% of gnosis requests get approved, though sometimes it takes a rewrite or two. The other 10-15% most likely don't get approved because the pc is larger than life, the player lacks a general understanding of the god (even though often they want gnosis' that aren't written up yet or marks from gods that aren't fleshed out in the wiki). It kills me to say no. It really does. But I do it anyhow, especially if the player just grossly doesn't understand.

And that's the sad thing. I don't simply have time to tell them why they don't understand beyond why the god would not mark their PC in the context they represent. If I'm going to do that, I need to just go flesh out the writeup on the God or Goddess and call it good. So its disappointing and upsetting that I have to keep saying no. It's also disappointing and upsetting that some writers in applying for these things don't check spelling, grammar, and very important things like verb tenses in their work. There's just something inside me that doesn't want to approve something that's not spell checked and no one can be bothered to capitalize or punctuate. Or worse yet, have a 'she will run' turn into 'I was running' in the very next sentence.

Frustrating. Disappointing. And more often than not I just hate hate hate having to say no because it tends to put a damper on what should be an otherwise fun experience. So... with this scrap I just want to urge people to spell check, grammar check, know their goddesss/god, know their gnosis/ability, and especially the history of the place they are applying to be given special permission to do something different at. Remember the game has no nobility save for places in Ekytol and Dhani nests. Learn that certain races don't recombine with certain races for half breeds. Don't put your PC into a foreign city filled with a different race and expect them to be accepted.

I guess what I'm saying is Know Your Lore. I don't want to keep saying no.

So dun rit liek dis? ;)

Just kidding hon, but not to take away from the seriousness of the issue. This place just like the real world has rules and those should be followed. The main draw for me about Mizahar and has kept me here was the massive amount of time and effort that was put into the lore and the world itself. The world you and all the others who have contributed hours and hours to make is amazing and deserves respect!

The way I see it is that if there is something you want to do then you can do it here. The rules set up place make this a wonderful world where you have to think of creative solutions and I fricking love it.

Sorry for the mini rant, just wanted to throw that out there.

You are appreciated. :)

Off topic, but I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday while I was at it.

Moderator Note:

Just a little note... I was changing the color scheme of my moderator intervention. I'm a little tired of the orange and tri colored beast. Pink is always the best.

Cost of Living
No, this isn't like taxes where you can itemize and get a return!

People misunderstand this concept. We developed it for a very simple reason. No one wants to deduct daily meals (all ninty one or ninty two of them) from their ledger and then equipment and such they need on a daily basis from their month to month ledger. Its just no fun to realistically track expenses like broken shoe laces, weapons oil, your nightly beer or ale, etc. Lately I've had a lot of people try to argue with me that because they are a certain type of race - say Kelvic, Svefra, etc - that they aren't using things like other people are.

Wrong. You are.

Just because you get all your food from the sea, for example, doesn't mean its cheaper. You still need shovels to dig clams, fishing line, hooks, netting, and a whole host of things that you probably can't think of because you aren't actually in your fishing boat hanging out on the water. The problem is, in real life and in Mizahar, thing wear out. Shovels need sharpening - and that costs either to get someone to do it for you or to buy the sharpening kit or to replace the shovel if its lost or broken. Boats need a ton of work on them constantly. Even mercenaries need gear as it wears and tears. Just riding your horse around means your tack wears and you need to replace items... some more than others. Cost of Living means just that... it costs money to be alive or undead or even made of clay. So that's why cost of living is important and shouldn't be avoided.
