[Flashback] For the very first time (Nikavi)

Postby Rista on August 8th, 2011, 11:24 am

17th of Spring 505 AV

Another day, another fight. Spring had barely arrived with warmer weather and an easing of the relentless snowstorms, but it seemed that the rising spirits weren't affecting the new group of yasi in a good way. Or perhaps it was because of the black eyed doll that always seemed to be in the middle of every disturbance no matter when or where it occurred. It was already becoming a common sight to see black tufts of hair in the middle of a circle of red, foreign black eyes that shimmered and challenged as they stared back at any adversary, unyielding.
Today was no difference. The chiet that passed the group of yasi outside the dining hall on their way back to work frowned as they noticed the squabble that was slowly gaining in size and audibility. No one bothered to really step in and do anything - it was just a bunch of kids, what was there to be concerned about? - and so the children was left to sort out their own problems.

In the center of everyones attention was Rista. At the ripe age of eight years, she resembled a doll with her small stature, slender limbs and dark, beady black eyes that lacked all whiteness and color. The hair and skin was dark too; barely Inartan at all with the coppery tone of her arms, face and torso, and the long dark hair that only held streaks of dark red highlights; it hung in an unkempt mass over her back, lacking any sign of having been brushed the nearest five days. She was like a smoldering bed of ash, half-dead embers seemingly ready to flare up at any time. The face could have been pretty if it hadn't been covered in bruises, could have held a look of nobility if it weren't for the wild glimpse in her eyes and the brow that was furrowed into a scowl. The small girl almost managed to look menacing as she stared at the boy in front of her, hands placed on scrawny hips and with her feet placed widely apart; a challenging pose, and it seemed to annoy the boy more than the fact that she hadn't begun to cry when he called her a dirty mongrel dog.

"Take it back, or I swear to the gods I'll make you eat dirt after bendi!" Rista's voice was sharp and angry, she completely ignored the other yasi that stood around them, whispering and giggling as they made bets on who would win. It might have given her a slight bit of satisfaction to hear that most of them bet on her... The red-haired boy frowned and gained a stubborn look on his face, almost on par with the little girls, and crossed his arms confidently over a meager chest as he looked down on her.
"You couldn't give me a nosebleed right now; why would I wait until after bendi for something that wouldn't happen? You should know your place Rista, you're just a nursery kid, born of a dek..."

It seemed to be the final drop. With a furious sound the little girl suddenly jumped her opponent, dragged him to the ground with surprising strength and began to pound at him with tiny fists, not even taking time to get herself into a favorable position before she began to extract her revenge. Using both hands and knees, kicking and clawing and punching towards the boys face and chest (and a very, very sore spot between his legs that she had become aware of just recently), it was nothing more than a brawl, ugly and menacing. She received blows too. The girl winced as a well-placed fist landed in her gut, another was taken on an already bruised chin... But despite the superior size of the boy he seemed to be overwhelmed by the girl and her furious attacks. The pain was getting to him, and after his nose received a hit strong enough to draw blood he was beginning to have enough.

Wailing for the others to help him he began to back away, crawling on his back over the floor to get away from this angry wildcat. A trickle of red slipped down his face and dripped onto the chest, and with angry, defeated and scared eyes he stared at Rista as some of the other kids grabbed her by the shoulders and held her back.
"You're petchin dangerous!" he sobbed and stumbled up on his feet. The face was twisted in a mask of pain and anger, and the look he gave the girl was oh, so cold. "Who would want to be friends with you, you'll just eat everyone up if they try to talk.. Come on, guys, lets go somewhere else until its time for dinner."

Rista grimaced and got up on her feet again as her shoulders were released, panting from the effort of fighting and from residues of anger that wisped about within her. Watching as the others turned around and left, she made no attempts to try and follow. She wasn't welcome and she knew it, and the empty feeling in her gut surely came from hunger, and not something as silly as sadness or longing. Ever since her twin brother died three years ago she had been alone more or less the entire time, so she was used to it by now. The thought of Karva still made pain stab through her mind; Rista took a deep breath that sounded more like a sob, trying to fight the wish to cry. Yeah, she was alone. It was better that way after all, no one would get hurt if they stayed away from her.

Something warm trickled down her upper lip, and she automatically raised a sore hand to wipe it away. A quick glance to the fist revealed that it was blood; she must have gotten a punch on the nose herself without realizing it. She looked up and gave the disappearing back of the boy a dark glare.
"What making friends" she muttered to herself. "You're the ones who always start it, calling me names and trying to be better. It's not like I'm trying to start fights every time..." It was pointless to say it to herself though, and with a sigh she turned around to leave for the baths; maybe she would have time to wash off before she could eat. She didn't look around to see if anyone had decided to stay behind, just turned her back on the place and began to walk with shoulders sloping in tiredness. She would probably get scolded again...

[Flashback] For the very first time (Nikavi)

Postby Nikavi on August 9th, 2011, 10:53 pm

Nikavi had watched the little half-blood Inarta fight, laughing among the screams and excited shouts of the others. Violence didn't phase her, but watching this Dek's child beat the pulp out of a high-bred little boy was the greatest of fun. Even if that boy happened to be one of her 'friends'. She wouldn't defend him, though. He had insulted the honour of a fellow Inarta, and even little Nikavi was smart enough not to do that unless she was ready for a fight.

The boy was such a crybaby. He couldn't even defend his own accusations. Nikavi laughed at that. So far the dirty mongrel, to use the boy's most illustrious words, had proven she was more Inarta than he.

Nikavi waited as all the other Yasi left to go eat, and pondered going for food herself, but decided against it as she watched the little half-blood Yasi walk away. Curiousity overwhelmed the little Inarta and she ran after the other Yasi, Bryda flaring wildly as she caught up with the girl.

"You shouldn't talk to yourself like that." Nikavi chirped, light-hearted as always, as she came to walk next to the Yasi she had never met. "Some might think you're insane and assign you as a Dek." She spoke like it wouldn't be a big problem if this girl were to become a Dek. As far as Nikavi knew anyway, she was Dek from birth. Her mother had the status or something, and her father came from Outside. "Do you want to be a Dek for like?"

She wondered what the girl's name was, but it wasn't part of Nikavi's nature to wonder about Dek names. She was narrow minded and naïve like that, going through life thinking everything was rainbow when she completely ignored the Dek caste. She felt they should be the happiest. Like the Endal that fly on giant Eagles and touch the sky.

"Where are you going all alone? You should come and eat and wear blood proudly."

[Flashback] For the very first time (Nikavi)

Postby Rista on August 10th, 2011, 7:44 pm

Her head flew up like that of a startled horse when the girl popped up beside her; Rista hadn't noticed that she remained behind, and wasn't entirely sure that she liked the company. She was still mad from the fight and the comments the person made about her mumbling stung. A quick glance revealed a somewhat familiar face; she had seen the other in the crowd surrounding her as she fought, she remembered the laughing eyes and grinning mouth. What did she want now?

"Dek, Dek, is that all you can say?" she snapped with mocking tone and spun around on her heels, stopped and placed the hands back onto her hips, black eyes defensive and hard as she stared at the other girl. Blood ran down from her nose and slipped into the corner of her mouth, but the dark-skinned mongrel seemed to have forgotten about it now that she was faced with another person that had to talk about unimportant things.
"I'm no Dek and I won't become one either; I'm a yasi, I'm Inarta and I don't care a petch about who my mother is. You better stop talking like that right away, or I'll consider your words an insult too.."

It was a rather good warning considering the fact that she had just won her previous fight, but in all honesty Rista was too hungry and too tired to handle more fights well. She hoped that this girl would take the hint and watch her mouth a bit, but if not.. well, then she would just have to deal with it somehow.Jealously gnarled within her stomach along with hunger as she looked at the red hair, the pale skin... This girl would never have to fight back insults about her appearance. She couldn't possibly know anything about real life. Not after a comment like that.

"You look kinda smart" she said after a while, the voice a bit calmer and not as snappy, "but are you in fact a bit stupid? If I don't go to wash I'll have to fight the seniors later, because they'll think I'm bragging with my nosebleed. Besides, it'll make the food taste bad.. I'm going to the baths now, just quick before lunch..." She hesitated and looked at the girl some more, tried to judge her character and intent on approaching her.
"You can come too, if you want."

She made it sound like it was a grand offering, and for Rista it was too. She was more of a loner usually, for obvious reasons, but even she liked company from time to time. She didn't have any hopes of this person becoming a friend, because that was just unlikely to happen, but at the very least she could turn out not to be an enemy. This girl was a bit strange, but she looked fun with those glittering eyes and that sharp tongue she had... The black-eyed girl tried a slight smile, just to see what kind of effect it would have.

"I'm Rista by the way, in case you didn't hear it back then.."

[Flashback] For the very first time (Nikavi)

Postby Nikavi on August 19th, 2011, 10:45 pm

Nikavi smiled as the other girl's head snapped up to look at her. At the first reply to her question her gold eyes glittered with fierce laughter and she almost succumbed to the temptation to stick her tongue out teasingly. As it was she couldn't help but release a trill of laughter. "Is Dek all I can say? No! I'm not saying it right now, am I?"

The fierce determination in the other Yasi's solid black gaze was truly impressive. Nikavi could see a brave, bold person when she saw one and she liked that. Too bad the brave, bold ones were the ones that did stupid things to impress Wind Eagles. She had to give this Yasi some credit though. Females were much more smarter than males of the same age and status. "You don't care who your mother is?" Dark red eyebrows lifted as Nikavi laughed and then smiled much more kindly afterwards. "Weren't you raised by her?" She dismissed the topic with that question. After all, one's mother truly didn't dictate the rank of her child. Hopefully Nikavi would be at a higher status one day than her parents, who were both Avora. She had dreams of flying and touching the sky.

"I look kinda smart but I'm a bit stupid?" Nikavi grinned. "Look at the pot call the kettle black." She stepped closer to the other Yasi, wanting to get a better look at her eyes. "You act like rank doesn't matter, but yet you get mad when someone comments about it." She nodded solemnly as though to make her statement truer with the action. "Your opponent is going to eat and he's banged up too." She shrugged. "But I suppose you do have a point."

Her offering brought another smile to her, a fleeting one on the verge of becoming laughter. She'd like a bath. Baths were fun, and cleanliness was nice. As the other Yasi introduced herself as Rista she chuckled and nodded. "I'm Nikavi, and I'd be happy to go and bathe too!" She laughed and clapped her hands together. In all honesty, she acted like a little mischievous sparrow.

[Flashback] For the very first time (Nikavi)

Postby Rista on August 21st, 2011, 3:20 pm

oocwow, the layout has been a bit messed up.. Can you check your threads for open tags? Might be the reason why; I looked through mine, but I couldn't find any that would explain this weirdness..

She wasn't sure that she liked the tone of this girl. There was something with the constantly sparkling eyes that made it feel like she was mocking Rista, and the dark-haired yasi didn't appreciate that thought. Neither did she like all this continued talk about her mother. She turned around again and began to continue on the way to the baths, confident that Nikavi would follow, and decided to explain her situation on the way. Now that someone was listening that seemed interested..

"I don't know my mother because I was raised in the nursery" she said and lifted a hand to wipe off the blood that now was beginning to dry on her lips. "Like that guy said.. She's a dek, from what I know, I only really saw her once when I was really small. And once more when my brother died.. But it's not like I owe her anything, she just dumped us like all the other empty-brained vagiks. Not something to pay any attention to, and I can't stand it when people drag up unimportant things like that. It's not like it matters who our parents are, and I won't let anyone judge me because of that."

Unintentionally mirroring the girls thoughts, her chubby child hand left a pretty line of half-dried blood over the cheek as she tried to clean her nose; sensing the worsening of the situation, the mongrel shrugged and let the hand fall again; it wasn't like she really cared if anyone saw that she had been fighting again. This girl certainly didn't seem bothered; Rista gave her a weighing glance at her comment of her opponent being bloodied up too, and rewarded it with a proud grin.

"Well, that's true. I did give him a bloody nose, and he's not likely to forget that. No reason to flaunt with it though, really. The matter is dealt with, I won and I don't need to rub it in anymore; everyone that watched is going to do that anyway. He'll never be able to forget that he was defeated by a half-breed girl at half the size of him.." Sadly, Rista also knew from experience that she was likely to be faced with repercussions once she got back to the youth section to sleep. No one would be happy to welcome her back, she would have to deal with hard eyes, petty pranks against her bed and small trinkets... Even so, she wasn't about to stop fighting. She had to defend her pride, no matter what the price would be.

Her eyes turned to the other girl, eying her from the side as they walked. Nikavi was everything Rista wasn't; red-haired, pale eyed, pretty and seemed to be funny to be around. Why she hadn't gone away with the other kids was a mystery, one that she was afraid of solving. It might be that she just wanted an opportunity to get Rista alone so she could find weaknesses, or that she was scheming something and wanted the help of the mongrel... She couldn't really believe that anyone would want to be around her without having a reason for it; she had been burned a few times for that kind of naivety, and wasn't about to let it happen again.

"What are you having for bendi?" she decided to ask as the silence dragged on, feeling that they should fill it with something. The girl didn't want to seem unfriendly, not after the other had decided to come along after her invitation. "It'll be time to switch soon, and I look forward to it. I'm tired of running back and forth to the stables.." While she liked the horses and the people up there, the long way back from the Gates often meant that she became late for dinner, not to mention that she always had to bathe before sleeping. In a way, it was probably stupid to go there now, but Rista felt like soaking in the water for a while.
