Home of the Konti people, this ivory city is built of native konti stone half in and half out of the sea. Its borders touch the Silverwood, and stretch upwards towards Silver Lake, home of the infamous konti vision water. [Lore]

Serrif decided this morning he would visit Lym and see what was going on. He knew now that the Pumpkin Festival was in full swing. He had been to the Temple sense the start, and it was more than busy. It seemed everyone was working diligently in order to honor Rak’keli and her healing ways. They were busy preparing all kinds of remedies for all kinds of various illnesses and such. People had been preparing themselves for this since last season. They hadn’t been slacking off, they were just resting a little more when they didn’t have to be studying. They were getting restful sleep because they knew when the Festival came they would be doing their duties longer and harder than ever. In order to honor Rak’keli. Serrif however was a strange breed. He was a healer but then again he was not. He was and wasn’t official at the same time. He was working under Lym. Under her direction.
Serrif walked into Lym’s lab and he saw her sitting at her table, like she almost always was when he showed up. She was preparing something writing down things on paper She was going to teach him something again today. He smiled and she looked up and then motioned.
“Take a seat and ready yourself for a very busy day.” she then continued writing things down on paper and handed it to him when she finished.
He had a very long list, a very long and detailed list. There were over twenty things listed on the paper, some of them he had never even read of before. He needed all kinds of things from the garden. He shrugged some and posed the question to her.
“I am unsure what some of this is. I have never…” Lym cut him short and pointed to the far wall on the shelving.
“The book with red binding top shelf. Then set to work.” Serrif walked over to the shelf and easily reached the top shelf that was right at eye level for him. He picked it out and Lym nodded. Telling him he had indeed picked the right book.
He then took a woven basket and walked out into the garden. He went ingredient by ingredient on Lym’s list. First was a bark of some kind. He looked through the book and found the illustration of the tree he was looking for. It was a smooth tree, the bark would just flake right off of the tree easily. He looked around the garden and saw what appeared to be there tree of interest. He walked over to it and gently touched the bark. It felt weak, hardly attached to the tree at all. He then decided he would gently pull off some of the bark and set it in the somewhat large wicker basket he was carrying. He then pulled off a little extra just in case Lym needed it for a reason.
It was time for the next thing on the list. There was a flower of some kind. Again he looked through the book and found a listing for this flower and plant. He looked at the illustration and the description of the plant. It was a grass type plant and grew somewhat tall and had flowers on the tips of the leaves. He again looked about and saw plenty of plants but not this plant. He walked about and around things. Maybe it was hiding? But it wasn’t an animal, it couldn’t just walk about and hide somewhere…could it? The book didn’t say anything about that. He looked back over the notes and well the plant didn’t have any distinctive features. He looked around some more and well you would think bright orange flowers would be easy to spot. He stood near the center of the garden and looked for anything orange. That would help. And being that the plant stood relatively tall that would help him spot it a little better as well. He looked about, his eyes gazing in between everything searching for this item. He needed it. But where was it?
He sighed and continued to look about. Where was it? Maybe it wasn’t here in the garden? No, Lym wouldn’t send him here and tell him to look in the garden if it wasn’t here…would she? He looked at the page in the book again. It had thin and long leaves with a spire that had an orange colored flower. Lym needed a few of these leaves. He could just look for the leaves, but in this mess of things he doubted he would ever find them. It was a cacophony of green out here in the garden. A mess of leaves, trees and flowers; but no matter where he looked he didn’t see any orange. So he figured he would come back to that one. Once he had gathered everything else that he could see. If need be he could have Lym assist him and show him what he was missing.
’So the next thing on the list’, he thought to himself as he matched the name with the item in her book. It was another grass of some sort. It liked to grow in the shade and had purple coloring near the base of the blades. The blades themselves were somewhat fat and there weren’t many of them on each of the plants. And Lym wanted a couple of them.

He watched making sure that the mixture was brought to an even boil. This was important because he assumed if the mixture was heated too hot too fast it was likely that the medicinal properties would be destroyed. This would counter everything that he was trying to achieve here. So he found a glass mixer and gently stirred the mixture. He watched it and the mixture seemed to be heating evenly mixing the fine bark powder in with it. The powder was mixed in evenly throughout the water. He watched the heat seep into the glass vial. He waited and he could see the bubbles form in the vial. It wasn’t far from boiling now. He hadn’t been paying attention to Lym. His attention had been on trying not to spoil the mixture that Lym had told him to make. He had followed her directions carefully and watched the bubbles. They formed and continued to rise to the top.
“Lym…” He started to say, and before he could finish Lym was at his side nodding.
“Yes that will do just fine, now another task.” She said as she then put on a glove and set the vial aside to cool.
“These…” She said as she picked up some of the long grass leaves he found. “are critical. Most people boil them to extract the medicinal qualities. But, extracting cold is much more effective. In fact I would venture to say that one cold extraction is equal to ten boiling extractions.” She said with a smile as she then put water in the mortar and then cut the grass into smaller pieces. She then handed the pedestal to him. He knew what to do.
He then ground up the grass in the water mixture. It became thicker than what he would’ve expected. And it still got more so when he ground up more of the grass. His arm was getting tired but he figured he would know when it was over. Just when he thought it was over Lym came over and nodded again.
“Now scoop that out and mix it in with what you just created.” She would watch. Her pupil had learned some but not all of what he needed to know.
He poured the contents of the mortar into the vial and then used the glass stirrer to mix it up. The mixture was green in color and became thicker as he stirred. He didn’t add heat and well the mixture was indeed somewhat cool. But it wasn’t warm. As Lym stated that would likely kill all the medicinal qualities of the mixture he was making…again rendering it useless. He stirred until the mixture looked even.
“Very nice Serrif. You’ve done well. Now, you have someone waiting for this mixture upstairs in the clinic. Go on now.” She said as she smiled and shooed him on.
“Are you sure?” He asked as Lym then assured him.
“Yes, the others will guide you to her once you get there.” Lym said as she let him leave. She hoped he would do a good job. He seemed like a gentle enough person to her. He was really a good person; and well she was sure he would do just fine; maybe he would even do admirably. She could only hope.
Serrif navigated the halls. He was used to them and after getting lost several times he knew where almost everything was. Especially the clinic; that was where many people went when they came here. In fact that was what most people came here for. He wasn’t too sure of himself. Up until now he had little if any experience with people who were injured. Up until now he was always indirectly involved with Lym. Making things to help them and then just passing the mixtures on to others to be administered. But now it seemed Lym wanted to put him in the front lines of things. He wasn’t sure of her reasoning but he knew that there was usually a reason. Maybe when he returned to her she would give him some speech about why they did what they did. He knew why, or he thought he knew why. But in his mind it was all about providing comfort to those in need. He didn’t know what else it could be. But right now he was a little anxious, and he knew he would need to be collected for this.

He breathed in deep a couple times and started centering himself. He didn’t know what he was walking into. All he knew was that he had a glass container full of a medicine of some kind. When did Lym know that she would have him do this? It couldn’t have been before he came in. He knew she wouldn’t want to keep anyone waiting that long. What was more likely was that she had him go out and collect a good amount of various ingredients, then someone came down wanting her help while he was out. Then they made the concoction and she now sent him to aid. He didn’t know what she suspected him to do. He hadn’t been in this setting, and he knew he would have to tread carefully. He wasn’t even sure if the other healers would let him do anything at all. They were sometimes picky in what they did and did not allow. But he decided he would take this one step at a time.
He brushed all thoughts from his mind and breathed easily. Letting his body gently come to rest. He could feel his muscles relax completely as he began to compose himself. Measured breaths helped him bring his pulse down as he concentrated on clearing his mind. His senses slowed down and gently became a little numb to the world. He breathed in and out still slowly closing his eyes. He could feel the world fade away into oblivion. This brought him to a calm state and he eventually brought himself into the black. He faded away to the point to where he almost felt himself fall over. He woke himself gently from this darkness and opened his eyes. He was here in Mura now in the Opal Temple. He felt the glassware in his hand and he knew what he was here for. He had to bring this to the clinic.
He felt almost drunkenly numb and centered. He smiled and took a step forward to bring his body sensations back. He walked toward the clinic and stepped down outside. He saw the clinic and a few women gathered. The healers were easily seen in his mind, they wore pure white and some wore ribbons in their hair. He walked toward the tent and there were several women gathered around a bed. They were talking Konti so he couldn’t really understand them at all. He approached and they grew hushed as they saw him. Who was he? And what did he have in his hand?
“Excuse me but who are you?” One of the women said as she looked to him, she was one of the women who were here with the patient. Her tone was worried and even; but he could tell she was worried. He obviously had their attention now.
“Lym sent me here to administer this.” He said as he showed the women the vial he carried.
The women looked at each other and one of the healers spoke. “He works with Lym, she must have sent him.” She said as she then seemingly rolled her eyes; likely from not expecting him to show up.
“I don’t know how I feel about this…man administering medicine to my child.” She stated rather plainly as if she didn’t trust him. She was almost talking down to him in a way.
“I understand, but I assure you Lym has prepared me for this well.” He said the woman then relaxed her posture and voice some. She sighed and nodded.
“Very well…” She seemingly stepped aside to let Serrif pass inside.
“Thank you.” He said as he passed by her gently and went inside.

When he entered the area he saw two Konti women standing near a bed. On the bed was a small Konti girl who couldn’t be over 7 years old. She was clutching her leg to her body seemingly crying silently. He saw the tears running down her face. One of the women was gently brushing back her long blond hair and talking to her gently trying to calm her down. The other was there for support. They looked to him when he entered and he wasn’t what they expected…they were expecting another Konti.
“You are the healer?” She asked and Serrif nodded.
“I am here to aid her.” He said as he gently made his way to her bedside and knelt by it.
The little girl looked at him with her big deep blue eyes, they were somewhat irritated from her crying. She was obviously in a decent amount of pain. She looked surprised as she seemingly backed away from him. It seemed that he scared her somewhat and he couldn’t blame her.
“Hello little one, have you hurt yourself?” He said gently to her. The child shook her head in response.
“Then why are you crying?”He asked as her eyes then fell down and she tried to come up with a response.
“I can help you with the pain.” He said as he smiled a little. “If you want.” The girl then nodded a little and scooted a little toward him on the bed he was kneeling by.
“Where does it hurt?” He asked as the girl then moved over and hung her leg off the bed near him and pulled up the bottom of her dress up to her knee exposing her wound.
Serrif would see bright red puffy irritation. Likely from a man-of-war or a jellyfish or something. She was lucky it wasn’t any worse. The wound wrapped itself like a whip around her leg all the way down to her foot. He frowned a little and spoke again.
“Well you have been a brave little girl. But I am going to need to put some stuff on it to help. It may hurt a little. But…” He said as he gently put his hand in hers. “ifit hurts squeeze my hand ok?” She nodded and did a test squeeze on his hand to let him know she understood.
“Good girl, are you ready now?” She nodded and then took a deep breath.
He gently put the glassware on the ground and put a finger in it to gather some of the mixture. It was relatively thick so he would have to spread it almost like mud on her leg. He gently spread it starting at the top on her injury. She winced some and squeezed his hand. He knew this had to be making her more than uncomfortable. Once he spread that piece on her wound he took a break so the child could rest some.
“Are you ok? Is it a little better?” He asked and the girl nodded and then took another breath readying herself for Serrif to put the next bit on her wound. He would only have to do this a few more times and the whip like wound on her leg would be completely covered.
He did so skillfully and was careful not to put a whole lot of pressure on the wound so he wouldn’t cause her pain. He didn’t want to cause her to be uncomfortable, but he knew that he had to put the medicine on to help her heal and feel better. Eventually he finished putting the medicine on and the little girl kept his hand in hers as she felt the pain gently go away. The medicine was pulling the pain and irritation from the wound already. It was feeling significantly better than before. In fact there was a cooling sensation that caused her to shiver some.
“Are you ok?” He asked as the girl then nodded again. Serrif smiled, ”are you going to let my hand go?” He asked as the girl pondered her answer and then pulled his hand toward her.
Serrif moved closer and the girl released his hand and then threw her arms around his neck hugging him. The little girl looked up at her mom who had a smile on her face. Here among the Konti he didn’t quite get how family structure worked. It seemed every child was everyone’s child. And every mother was every child’s mother. That was how he saw it. But he wasn’t sure.
“This will likely need to be reapplied eventually.” He said as he then handed the vial to the woman. He smiled and the woman nodded.
“Thank you so much.” She said as she smiled looking at her now happy child who was in less pain then before.

Serrif nodded and smiled. “A pleasure to be of service.” He said as he handed the vial of the left over to the woman.
“I will have one of my sisters take care of me when we get back.” She said nonchalantly, Serrif caught this immediately and spoke.
“Well I am here now, and trained in this so mind if I take a look at it?” He queried as the woman looked a little embarrassed at first.
“No I…don’t think that would be…” She trailed off and then looked at the man before her. He was obviously a healer, had kind hands even though the rest of his body was a battleground. Her eyes had caught the markings around his neck and wrists, they were hard to miss and definitely the marks of slavery. She knew this because he didn’t seem like the type that was a convict. No his demeanor was too calm; that and the seers wouldn’t have let him in here on the island if he was a danger to the people.
She smiled shyly “If you wouldn’t mind turning around for a few seconds.” He did as he was asked and the woman laid down on the bed on her chest and rolled her dress of off her shoulders. She then pulled it down to the small of her back. She didn’t expose anything too suggestive. But this was where she got stung when she swam out to help her child.
“Alright.” She said as he then turned back around, and well there she was.
Her slender body laid out on the medical bed; of course she was laying on her chest but her dress was removed off her back all the way to the small of her back right above her butt; to protect something of her dignity. She was indeed a perfect Konti specimen. He could see her shimmering beautiful scales on her back and sides as well as her well toned muscles. But sitting on top of all this were long lash like marks that trailed all down her back. There were two large major ones and then several smaller marks that went off of that one. They were all rather large and inflamed pink and puffy. This was one of the many ways he knew that the Konti treasured their children. He moved over bedside and spoke to her.
“Well it looks like you got the worst of it. Let me see what I can do about this.” He noticed she had set the vial on a table beside her he wasn’t sure she had enough to cover all of these marks.
He figured he would make it work one way or another. And if he had to he would go and make some more…if he knew how to. He had only boiled tree bark and such. Lym had done the really difficult parts. Parts he knew he would eventually have to learn. But for now he was clueless to them and he knew this woman needed the help. He gently took some of the mixture out of the glass container and then spread it ever so gently over her wounds. He made sure to cover the bigger more inflamed ones first. Those were definitely hurting the most out of all of it. He gently rubbed it across her injuries making sure to not apply pressure down on her wound. He finished and well there wasn’t anything left when he had finished applying the medicine to her.
“That is much better.” She said as she felt the mixture pull the pain out of her wound. It was wonderful how it just sapped the pain straight out her wounds and left them with an icy feeling.
“I would hope so, I made it under the close guidance of a healer. Now, if you find you need more of this send someone here and ask for Lym or I. We will make some more for you.” He said as the woman then spoke again.
“What is your name?” She asked as Serrif then responded.
“Serrif.” |

“Well Serrif I will make sure to remember that name. I am Lys.” She said as Serrif then turned back around so she could dress herself.
She stood and pulled her dress back up over her body and smiled a little. The man did know what he was doing. He was very gentle with her. His touch actually calmed her a decent amount. It seemed having the large callused warm hands of a man on her back soothed her…or maybe that was the medicine… She wasn’t sure but she knew that she was far better off than she was before. Her back was comfortably numb, the marks didn’t sting any longer. Whatever he had given her was indeed a strong pain reliever and it acted immediately. She now understood why her child was so content.
“Well Serrif, I must say you did a wonderful job.” He then turned around and nodded.
“I am glad, now if that is all I must return to Lym, she is doubtlessly wondering how I performed.” Lys smiled and responded.
“Admirably…” She smiled and then shook her head. ”We are fine here Serrif. I will seek you out if we need anything further.”
Serrif nodded, “Please do seek me out.”She smiled at him as he took his leave. He nodded to the healer outside the tent and spoke quickly.
“All taken care of, if you need any more medicine please seek Lym or I out. We will prepare more for you.” The woman didn’t speak a word and instead ventured inside to see if he was telling the truth. The healer nodded and went inside with her.
Serrif then walked back to Lym, pondering the entire time what he had just done. He had made a concoction and seen what it did. He helped a woman and her child in a time of need. They had to be in a good amount of pain and he helped relieve it. He was finally beginning to understand all of this. Now it all interlinked; how every piece was extremely important to each other. It was a machine where every part had a specific function. Lym was important because she was in trial medicine and herbalism. She was trying things that had never been tried before and perfecting things that none thought of before her. She was pivotal in advancing medicine here. But she also focused on what was already developed, and how she could take it further. She not only came up with what was unfathomable before her, no she perfected what was already established. And she understood the roots of everything. In all she was a very wonderful teacher for him. She understood that he had a need for learning that was past what one could learn in a classroom or in a book. He wanted tacit knowledge that he could use and modify. He wanted to learn things that were practical and he wanted to learn them in a practical way. And this exercise was a perfect example of this. He now understood how some of this worked. The task was simple but he achieved a good amount at the same time. He kept cool when being belittled and handled the women well. He felt like he had achieved more than he could ever have imagined. He walked into the lab and Lym was there with a smile on her face. She knew…
“I heard all went well.” How could she have heard anything at all?
“I thought so.” He said as he moved over near her and stretched some.
“That is the average day for someone like you. Healing the masses, through any means you can manage. It is important to also know that there are none beyond your healing.” She paused as she then looked right at him. “Armed with the right knowledge you can pull people back from even death Serrif…even death can be beaten back and defeated.” She let her words ring with her pupil while she closed a few books and smiled.
“How, how can one defeat death?” He asked as Lym smiled and motioned at her extended knowledge of books.
“That is something I haven’t even figured out yet, but the knowledge is there Serrif. Among books, nature, and other healers. Open your eyes and your mind and you will be able to master any and everything. Even death.” She said as she smiled and nodded. Her pupil was beginning to understand now the momentous machine he was involved in.
“You can do much good with this knowledge Serrif, and much harm as well. But the decision is for you to make what you will of it. It is your decision if you will help or harm. I can’t make this decision for you and neither can anyone else. We can only give you the knowledge needed to continue on. After that Serrif…it is all about you” She said as she gently moved over to her bookcase.
She pulled a green book from the shelf and handed it to him. It wasn’t particularly heavy or interesting in any way. But Lym did things for a reason. She always had an angle. “Read this, then when you think you have a good understanding of it I will test you on it practically of course.” She said as she released the book into his care.
Serrif opened it and it was all about philtering, the different glassware and methods for doing all kinds of things. Every page again hand written by Lym. A boundless amount of knowledge. “I won’t disappoint.” he said as Lym nodded and smiled.
“Go ahead to the library and start reading. I don’t need you any further here. If I do I will retrieve you.” Serrif nodded and headed for the library to study unless Lym came and got him.
