Gossamer,
I read your post "Funkadelic Rage." First, *hugs* it's not easy carrying that burden. From what I have seen, you are very active, committed and involved in Mizahar. I swear you are here 24/7. I know I've logged on at weird time when I can't sleep and see you online too, and think, "Does the woman never sleep?"
I admire your dedication to the site, story and players, and I thank you for it.
From what I gather from reading what you've written, the struggle is between two different Gossamers, the admin/founder who had the duty to protect everything that she's built up as well as protecting the players on the site. She would be the welder of the Ban hammer; versus the Gossamer who is the storyteller, friend, adviser. This is the one who is appalled at the thought of banning anyone, or that there would be the need to.
It's difficult, especially when dealing with children, however, the important thing to remember is that we all, everyone of us read the Terms of Use. We all know or should know that by violating any of the terms of use that we can be banned from Mizahar.
I always remember one thing: If one person has reported a player for aggression, etc., then chances are they've been aggressive with another. If two people have reported them...it multiplies further. It is like you said, you always got thank yous after the person was asked to leave. Most people won't report someone for harassing them, for being rude, or whatnot. They don't want to look as though they are whiners, or they don't want to be construed as being weak. Many will just leave the site. (Forgive me, I am sure you know all of this.)
I always kept a list of why someone was banned. (Never posted it publicly, but I had it for myself.)
Example: Ittybitty banned for TOU violation trollish behavior
Pokeymokey put on hiatus for two weeks TOU violation disrespectful to Storyteller 2nd notice (reported by: player icya: notes)
Thankfully it was a short list!
Though, really, for the most part, we, the players do know there is a difference between the two Gossamers; and that you do weigh each decision, and come to the decisions you do through careful consideration. When you do ban someone, it's for the best of the site, for us--for the all of Mizahar. The majority of us know this. So, while there may be some little anger, or confusion at the time it happens from a few players, it passes. And the group settles back in to realize then how much better things really are now that that particular individual is gone.
I've seen this happen time and time again, both as a member of the group and from an administrative stand point. It's always harder on the administrator. XD I say that as the one who welded the ban hammer!
Please, remember that we are always harder on ourselves that we are on others. XD,
We already know that you're one of the bosses, and we like it that way.
At least that's my humble opinion.
B.
