33rd Fall A.V.
The scents were the first thing that came to mind when Jaiun thought of the Frost Falls Market. Scents of a million different things; scents of fish, meat, spices and many other things that made Jaiun's nose tingle. He preferred to obtain his food the old-fashioned way- i.e. kill it quite savagely- but sometimes Jaiun liked visiting the Frost Falls Market simply for the scents. As Jaiun became more familiar with his Icewatch duties, the marketplace gradually became a regular detour when he made his rounds. Many a time, Jaiun would find himself wander down the streets of Avanthal only to find himself amidst the chaos and excitment of the market. And this was such a time.
"Pardon me...", Jaiun muttered as he shoved past a couple of Vantha, trying to push his way though the mongering crowds. The Frost Falls Market was more crowded that usual today; Jaiun was forced to take his less-preferred human form to make up for the lack of space. Nevertheless, Jaiun was enjoying the scents as usual, as well as the many wares on sale; what with the whiteness of the city and the Northern Reaches in general, the wares and sales of the merchants, in their plentiful colors, always made an intriguing contrast.
A man, stout and surly, pushed past Jaiun, carelessly bumping into him and nearly sending him plowing into a merchant's stall. More out of surprise than anything else, Jaiun growled, a loud sound that pierced through the dull murmurs around him. It must have been an odd thing to see, a young man growling at another man; but, in his shock and the beginnings of anger, Jaiun had reverted to some of his more bestial qualities.
The man swiveled when he heard the noise, his eyes flashing a warning shade of orange. Then, perhaps noting Jaiun for what he was, his eyes turned a opaque shade of green suddenly, and he muttered, "Sorry about that, good sir."
Jaiun forced himself to swallow his rage. Perhaps his bearish nature was getting the best of his, but what he wanted to do was yell down the man for being so careless. That would be hardly proper for a Icewatch guard, to start raging at a helpless civilian! No, guards were supposed to be respectful, something, alas, Jaiun still had to learn.
He contorted his mouth into a unnatural smile and said, "Don't worry about it, just be more careful next time." And with that, he moved off, trying to regain the peace and solidarity that had been so abruptly ruined. He inhaled briefly and smiled. The scents. Yes, that could always calm him down.
Jaiun meandered down the market path, his eyes contentedly flickering from stall to stall, though always be sure to avoid the next incoming person.
