OOCA thread for teaching Raven some unarmed, but Sutekh if you or anyone else wants to join in at any point, you're more than welcome. I made the time after we met, since it would make more sense that way.

75th Day of Fall, 511 AV

Walking through town, Xalet had upon him his typical outfit depicting his place as a squire among the Syliran Knights. Covering his frame he wore his plate armor, although his helm and gauntlets were currently removed to allow him greater visibility as he carried the large wooden item across his back. It looked much like a large post of wood, simple in it's design. All across the top most of it's mast, the mid portion of it's girth, and the bottom portion of it's lower extremity was tightly bound lengths of hemp, coiled up and tied off securely. These three positions indicated the proper striking surfaces of an opponent, and thus Xalet had a proper training post.

The very bottom of his post had been sharpened into a point in order to allow ease of jamming it into the ground. With the heavy object upon his shoulder, the most dangerous point sat lifted high to the sky so as not to endanger any potential passers by. With Xalet's height, he had no worry of the object coming into contact with an innocents eye. After having some previous difficulty with wildlife in the Bronze Woods, this time Xalet made sure to equip both his sword and shield, just in case the unlikely occurred. If things went smoothly however, the squire looked forward to a typical day of training.

His Patron had mentioned that he needed to increase his muscular flexibility, even while wearing full plate, and to that end he had some goal in mind while going into his practice. Stretching and increasing flexibility, she said, were as important as building muscle and increasing strength and power. The qualities of muscle elasticity decreased the possibility of injury, and could create a more explosive attack. Xalet didn't know the technicalities behind what his Patron was speaking of, but he took her word for it. He never had reason not to trust her before. Soon enough he came upon the large main gate, prepared to exit to the north and head just into the Bronze Woods.

Heavy Hands, Soft Step (Raven, Open)

Postby Raven Nightfoot on October 21st, 2011, 7:53 am

It was a lovely day in Syliras the sky blue and cloudless, and not too windy either. The streets were bustling with activity as a young girl made her way through the streets toward the Great Gate. The girl was beautiful, slender, curvacious but fit. her hair dark as night and medium length in a very distinct style. She wore some tight black pants with high black leather boots and a rather tight black shirt. The girl had reached the gate looking up at it curious as to what secrets the outside world held.

Raven had been taking her daily walk, she liked to get ot of the huge castle and feel the open air. She was near the great gate today, she often wanted to go outside into the Bronze Woods but her parents were well ranked guards and they would not allow her outside the gate without an escort. normally Raven would disobey them but unfortunately for her the guards at the gate knew her parents conditions and would not allow her out.

Raven decided she might aswell make her way back to her appartment walking calmly toward the castle as she looked up at the sky. Then there was a light clanking noise and the next thing she knew she had landed on the ground with a thud. "Hey watch were your go..." she paused as she looked up at the tall figure infront of her. She jumped to her feet still examining the large man, he was clearly an akalak. He was towering over her at about seven feet and his skin was a deep purple, large and built for battle. The akalak was wearing his squire uniform along with sword and shield, and on his back was what looked like a giant wooden stake.

"Hey, sorry about that. What would a squire be planning on doing at the Great Gate?" she asked confidently and curiously, not concerned about the fact that he was a total stranger.

Xalet felt a slight nudge upon his body and immediately he looked around to see what or who he had knocked over. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened before. With his equipment, Xalet was well over four hundred pounds. That meant he was heavier than even the largest of men, save for another Akalak. When something came into contact with him it had a tendency to just repel off or hit the ground, and Xalet felt the need to apologize every single time.

Finally he saw the dark haired Human girl he had put to the ground. "Sorry." he said simply. While he balanced the post across his shoulder he moved to extend a hand, but quickly enough she was back on her feet. That as it was he lowered the extended arm and appraised her momentarily, attempting to see if he recognized her. Not all of Syliras' population was transient, but there was a good deal of people that were simply passing through, or a part of a merchant caravan looking to sell and trade wares. On top of that, the Castle City housed an enormous amount of people, compared to the rest of the world.

Xalet looked at the gate for a moment, before turning his gaze back toward the girl, "Training." he mentioned. Luckily he caught himself, answers so short were not well received in typical Human society, even though that was the way he communicated in his superiors most often, "My patron requests me to train and improve my flexibility with the martial art of the Knights. The day is nice, so I wish to do it in the Bronze Woods." That was better, he thought.

Raven was satisfied with his first answer but the akalak apparently felt the need to elaborate. She looked him up and down again this time noticing he was quite attractive. "Martial arts training, cool lets go." she said excitedly as she wrapped her arm around his so as to look like she was being escorted. She didn't bother to ask whether he would mind her tagging along or not.
.
If he was going out there he could pretend to escort her so that she could get past the gates. Maybe he could even help her improve her unarmed combat, that would be greatly helpful. She smiled up at him patiently, still holding onto his large muscled purple arm.

Xalet didn't necessarily resist the girl wrapping her arm around his, but he still seemed a bit hesitant to allow her to come. The last time he had trained with someone in the Bronze Woods, things hadn't exactly gone as planned. He didn't know her capabilities, or even if she could take care of herself. Clearly she expressed interest in the martial arts, but that wasn't exactly enough to keep you from getting injured, even if the Bronze Woods were some of the safest spots of forest in all Mizahar.

Xalet just started walking thinking perhaps she would get cold feet and turn back to the safety of the Castle. As they moved further outside of the gate and closer to the forest he realized that she was still present. "You have martial arts training then?" he asked. Although she certainly did not appear to be a squire, it was possible she still had training elsewhere, or had a family member that was a part of the Knighthood and shared some of their secrets with her. Looking at her overall size and shape though, she didn't appear too well acquainted with the ways of warfare, but Xalet had underestimated many a competent warrior before.

Soon enough the dirt path faded away and the brilliance of the Bronze Woods opened up, the many multicolored deciduous leaves having turned their tint and fallen to the forest floor, creating a crunchy carpet beneath both their sets of feet. Once they arrived in a clearing wide enough to be utilized, Xalet took a quick glance upward at the position of the sun before gripping the post in both hands. With a deep breath he lifted the carved post upward and slammed it down into the earth, burying the tapered end into the ground below. As far down as the bottom sunk, it appeared his large frame was not just for show. Xalet was also proficient in the ways of body building to further enhance the natural physical prowess of his Akalak heritage.

At first Raven thought he would deny her request to follow him, but surprisingly the akalak obliged and began to walk, although with a slight hesitation. As they finally passed through The Great Gate and into the woods Raven let out a silent sigh of relief. The Bronze Woods looked beautiful in the fall, filled with oranges and browns. Every breeze caused a gentle rustling of the dead leaves and every step a crunchy noise.
.
They continued to walk deeper and deeper into the Bronze Woods, Raven assumed they were searching for a large clear area. "Well yes, but only the basics that I learnt from my parents." she said as they continued their stroll through the dried woods. Eventually they reached a clearing which was suitable for their training.
.
Raven released the akalaks arm so and stepped a few steps back as she watched him force the large wooden stake into the ground. Raven bit her lips gently watching his large muscled form demonstrating its sheer strength. "I'm Raven by the way, Raven Nightfoot" she said walking toward him with her hand raised, her voice still confident with a hint of flirtation.

"Raven Nightfoot." Xalet responded by taking the time to repeat her name, as he did with all those he met. Looking to be courteous he responded in kind, "I am Xalet, squire to Sergeant Irine Braklin." Looking at her raised hand, he brought his up to meet it and gave her a bit of a shake. Interestingly his right hand was warm, almost unnaturally so. That warmth felt somewhat comforting though, not to the point of being unbearable. When the cool fall winds blew it was something of a welcome to have it around.

Xalet was very professional in his speech. Either he wasn't picking up Raven's hidden messages or he was simply ignoring them for the sake of his squirely image. The truth was Xalet didn't have much experience with women, and especially not with women that were at all interested in him. In general the only three women in his life that tolerated him to any extent were his mother, his Sergeant, and his Goddess. Beyond those most folks tended to keep their distance from a young Akalak, even though Xalet had lived within the Castle city for decades now.

Releasing the woman's hand he turned toward the post for a moment before looking back at Raven. It almost seemed like he was staring at her figure, and that would have been an easy assumption were he any other man considering the shape she carried with her, but instead he was attempting to determine the state of her musculature as well as her overall posture when she stood. "The style of the Knights is simple and effective. It makes use of all the surfaces of the body. Hands, feet, elbows, knees, and the head. the elbows and knees were incorporated to allow it to be used while the hands were full with a weapon and shield. The kicks rarely go above the waist, due to limitations with armor and balance."

From his shoulder the large man removed his pack filled with equipment allowing it to rest upon the ground carefully, although the shuffling sound of metal and would clamored a bit within it's insides. "Show me the stance you have been taught, Raven Nightfoot. Perhaps take a few strikes upon the post. I am always interested in seeing the ways of others in the martial arts." Xalet mentioned toward her before moving to stretch himself out as much as feasible within the confines of his armor. Given it's weight, he seemed to move around fairly well within it, this was due to the sheer amount of time he spent with that weight upon his body.

Heavy Hands, Soft Step (Raven, Open)

The Mage's blue eyes tracked the movements of two in the forest where he trained. His black robes fluttered as he walked a path well known by the Knights as a safe route, back towards the pair he had seen. He heard only Xalet's voice and recognized the young male instantly, as he chuckles. He moved into a shadow closer before thinking of what to say.

"Do you seek guidance young Xalet?" The Man called as he stepped from his place in the darkness of the surrounding forests, wearing only his light plate armor, easily moving with his steps. He appeared every bit the Mage Knight he was, save for the gauntlets that sat on his hands. The Male was an Unarmed Fighter, as most could tell from his gait, the way he walked, and the soft movements of his fingers.

"Come, let me teach you what I know as well. Both of you." Andre grinned beneath his hood as he turned to the female, "Oh. And a Lady with you, my friend? An honor to meet you Madam, I am Ser Andresciel of the Order of Mages. Knight of Syliras" The Man introduced himself before bowing to her, allowing his blonde hair to be glimpsed.

OOCContinuing onward. Raven feel free to jump in whenever, but in NaNo month we can't stall anything for too long!

"Hmm?" Xalet's large frame turned toward the voice he heard. That tone, that dialect, from past experience he could immediately determine that it was Andresciel. The Knights were a group of extremely like minded individuals, and Xalet being one bent on mastering the idea of unarmed martial arts had spoken with the Mage Knight on more than one occasion. "Good day, Ser." he called back to the Knight.

"If there are more techniques I can learn in the Syliran martial arts, then I do." he responded simply to Andresciel. With his helm removed from his head, Xalet's identity was much more easily determined. Although Syliras had a few Akalak's in it's presence, especially within the Knighthood considering it's numbers coming to or nearly exceeding five thousand men and women strong, Xalet was often somewhat unique due to the violet hue of his skin. His eyes carried the silvered gleam of his brethren, but that deep purple skin was shockingly different than the typical blue or green.

"This is Raven." Xalet said as he gestured to the dark haired girl near by, "She was wishing to learn a bit about the martial arts as well." Xalet had only gotten to see Andresciel use his combat a few times, which appeared to be mixed with his magic. As he understood it they both used the art of the Knights taught within Syliras, just in different ways.

Heavy Hands, Soft Step (Raven, Open)

Postby Jonathon DuFraine on November 2nd, 2011, 2:18 am

Jonathon tramped through the woods, thinking intensely to himself. He had a problem to grapple with in his mind, for sure; up and leaving your childhood home, in the onset of winter, was not a decision to make lightly. But Syliras was starting to bore him, much as he hated to admit it; it was too stuffy and too loud. The forest was better, but something more... exciting would be nice.

Anyways, Jonathon mused, after winter was definitely best. However impatient he got, it would be better for him to arrive at a new location in the late or middling spring, not late winter. Especially if he was going to make his home among foreign forests.

His thinking was interrupted when he heard voices nearby. Dropping into his hunting stance, he listened intently. He wasn't able to hear the words, but the voices seemed somewhat relaxed. They were near Syliras, so it was unlikely that they were robbers of some sort, but then again, you never knew.

Quietly and stealthily, he creeped forward until he could see the men. He immediately relaxed; just Syliran knights. Looked like a squire, a knight, and a girl. Knights were a common sight in the woods (at least, more common then other types of people), but ordinary women, not so much.

Jonathon, curious, decided to make himself known. He rustled the undergrowth his hands a little, to attract some attention, then straitened up and stepped onto the path. "Greetings..." His voice was soft but firm. "Welcome to the Bronze Woods." He nodded to the three of them in turn, his eyes lingering a bit longer on the squire. "Do I... know you from somewhere?"

OOCHey guys, mind if I drop in? If'n ya don't, Xalet, do we assume the Markus thread went through and say we know each other, or no?
