What was she doing here?

The music thumped, the deep chords reverberating deep into her core. The crowed seemed to sway before Akvin, entranced by the magic he seemed to pound out on his drum set. Man and woman alike gathered before the band as they filled the Inclement Weather with their gripping song, very few able to avoid the intoxication of the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, Addy was also unable to avoid the intoxication of the alcohol. As any attractive female knows, it is rare that she has to pay for her own drinks. On top of ridiculous good looks, she was also Endal; that meant that people were tripping over each other in their haste to buy her next drink. Usually Addy was able to pace herself, ordering a specific drink that wasn’t on the menu, giving cue to the bartenders to just fill her cup with water or some kind of fruit juice. But tonight, for some reason, was different. The wine kept coming.

It was dark and passionate on the floor, the mesh of bodies hot, sweaty and yet somehow still appealing. Addy had herself right in the middle of it all, swaying to the music while she carefully gripped a half empty glass of wine, holding it off to the side as she went face to face with another woman. The crowd cheered them on as they slithered against each other, grinding as the woman licked and bit along the healers neck. The passion awoke inside her, causing her heart to beat a little faster, an aching heat between her legs that she was only able to ignore for so long.

As if the enticing woman knew what she was thinking, her arm found it’s way around Addy’s waist, drawing her flush against her full figured form. The wine was handed off to a random stranger as both her arms were needed to hook securely over those voluptuous hips.

“I want to show you something.” The whisper was like velvet in it’s sensuousness, husky in the way that her warm breath lingered on Addy’s ear and neck. She could smell the beautiful strangers sweat, the clean flowery scent of her hair and the warm pressure at her waist. As inebriated as she was, Addy was simply unable to refuse.

The darkness that completely enveloped the Weather made it impossible for Addy to see where she was going, only able to follow the warm pressure of the hand that dragged her forward. Faceless patrons stepped aside as the two women passed, though if they spoke to her Addy heard more or less a buzzing in her ear. The wine had made it to her head and the room was starting to sway with every drum beat that echoed from the stone walls.

With a sudden turn that almost knocked her completely off balance, the beautiful stranger lead Addy into an alcove at the far end of the room. The sconces and candles that littered the walls had been extinguished in this corner, letting the shadows lay thick and heavy. There was simply no need to draw the curtain for privacy since it was impossible to see the faces of those around you in the utter darkness.

“What do you want?” It was a low whisper from somewhere to her left. Spinning on unsteady feet towards the voice Addy lost her balance but was quickly steadied by the stone wall now at her back. Squinting through the alcohol haze and darkness the little woman tried to find the face of the voice. It was pointless.

“Temper and two Wingers.” The singular word was like a warm purr. It immediately drew Addy back towards her kidnapper, reaching out with unsteady hands to clasp that tiny waist once more.

“The usual price.” A shuffle and some clinks as the glass pinions exchanged hands. Temper? Wasn’t that the stuff Dek’s used to avoid their miserable lives? Was her beautiful stranger a Drudge? The waist was dropped and the healer took a stumbling step backwards as if contact with the beauty would contaminate her. It seemed that even the most honest of souls were still a bit racist, Addy’s happening to come out when she was drunk; the social lubricant that was alcohol never failed to bring out the ‘best’ in a person.

However, the mystery woman didn’t seem to notice. Addy’s drunken, stumbling escape was quickly overtaken by the other woman’s confident steps; She caught Addy’s waist once more and led her into an alcove adjacent to the drug dealers.

“Alright, beautiful. You first.” A stiffly wrapped paper bundle was pressed into her palm. Holding it up to her eyes and peering closely at the wrapped feather in the dim lighting, Addy slowly unwrapped the protective paper. It was a wind eagle feather, probably from a fledgling judging by the small-ish size but still larger than anything another bird would shed. The fine fibers of the feather were coated with the narcotic, clinging there until she decided to snort the stuff. Addy had heard of this, even seen it’s effects come stumbling into her ward, but never had she ever considered trying it.

But the beautiful smile and the alcohol urged her on, something deep in her mind trying to convince her that this was a good idea. It couldn’t hurt to try, could it? Sure, her patients had been on the verge of messing themselves but they had surely been close to overdose. Just…one would not hurt. Plus, Beauty over there looked fine and healthy. If this was “the usual”, it couldn’t be too bad. If only Addy had realized how strong her drunk goggles were.

A slow, lopsided smile brightened her face as her sluggish mind twisted reality to fit her desires; in only a matter of seconds, Addy had managed to disregard all of her morals to convince herself that if this woman did drugs, then obviously it was okay for her to partake as well.

Slipping onto the ledge seat chipped into the wall, Addy gently placed the feather on the table, resting both hands on either side of it as she simply stared at the drug. “I don’t… know how to do this.”

The Beauty laughed, slipping onto the ledge next to her and unwrapping her own feather. Holding it by the quill she rested the end closest to her fingers against her nose, holding her breath as she positioned the feather fibers in the correct place. The left hand vein was used first, as the feather was technically divided down the rachis that ran down the middle. Pressing her nose into the feather, Beauty took a great sniff as she drew the feather along under her nose. When she pulled it away, a yellowish powder was caked around her nostrils, but she didn’t seem to care. The feather was flipped and the same process repeated for the right hand vein.

Taking a deep breath and leaning her head back against the wall, the other woman’s eyes slid closed, the air slipping from between her lips in a satisfied sigh. “Good stuff… Gooooood stuff. You’re turn.” Her voice had lost it’s overpowering sexuality, turning into more of a tired whisper.

Trying to mimic what the Beauty had just done, Addy lifted the feather to her nose. It had looked so easy, but the tickle of the downy feathers near the quill made her snort and fight to hold back a sneeze. It was a long couple of chimes before Addy was able to regain control of her nose. The feather was replaced and she took a deep breath. At first it was easy, but halfway through the first side the healer ran out of air.

Coughing and sputtering Addy threw the feather down onto the table, gasping as she tried to catch some air. Her nose felt completely clogged and it burned somewhat, but to make it worse when she opened her mouth to draw a deep lungful of precious oxygen, the Winger that still lingered around her face zoomed into her mouth and down her throat.

The healer didn’t fall under the effects of the drug as quickly as it seemed. In fact, both she and her Beauty sat in their alcove with their heads tilted back against the wall in complete silence for almost an entire bell. When Addy finally opened her eyes, the darkness before her seemed to swim and dance with more colors than she had seen there before. The ground seemed to roll and the walls seemed to bulge in places that had been flat before. Still drunk, high and now with the initial burst of adrenaline wearing off, Addy started to panic.

“What is happening?!”

Initially, Addy’s reaction had been to run. Just run, as fast as she could, as far as she could, for as long as she could. Maybe, just maybe, if she could leave this alcove far, far behind her the world would go back to normal.

Until this point, Addy had never tried a drug. She had been turning away offers to try this or that for years, losing count of how many of her fellow Inartans had tried to sway her into the world of narcotics. Thinking that she had no need for them, claimed she was too focused on her goals though it was clear she was simply afraid of the unknown. Change was never one of Addy’s strong points and drugs definitely seemed to change people.

Time slowed, inched, and then finally seemed to crawl to a stop. Barely able to stand, it seemed like it took hours to breach the five or so feet between the healer and the curtain that partitioned the two person party from the rest of the club. It took all her will to lift one foot and place it down in front of the other, her gaze focused strictly on the ground in front of her so that she would know where she was going. In her mind, Addy was making slow, but decent progress as she tried to run away from the drugs that steadily worked their way into her system.

In reality, Addy was a stumbling mess. After the initial drugged stupor wore off the healer lurched to her feet, projecting herself across the entire alcove with a single bound; her face said hello to the stone wall with a wet, thick sounding slap that startled Beauty out of her own stupor. The sight of Addy face down on the floor caused Beauty to laugh. Hearing her partner in crime giggling shamelessly, Addy let loose a laugh that shook her entire body, ending in a snort that only started them laughing all over again. Even the blood that dribbled from the split on her lower lip was funny.

When she finally found her feet almost half a bell later, Addy finally started making her way towards the curtain. The fall had slipped her mind, which focused only on her trek towards the only available exit. A few trips and staggers would be evident in big, beautiful bruises in a few days time but yet…. Addy still didn’t seem to notice. Perhaps it was the mixture of the alcohol and her first ever drug, but the healer was a danger to herself; Beauty no longer seemed to care, as she was running both feathers under her nose in hopes of finding any bit of powder left sticking to the fibers.

The fabric slipped through her fingers when she finally made it to the exit. Having thrown all her weight forward, thinking that the curtain would help support her, Addy once more went tumbling forward; this time, however, it was directly into a group of young Avora men and women.

“Up you go.” The young man that bodily lifted Addy back to her feet couldn’t help but smile, placing her gently back down with his arm held out in case she would need further support. “Rough night?”

“Gotta Winger?” The alcohol thickened her tongue, slurring her speech while the drugs made her head swim. The room still spun, the healer trying to keep up with it by swaying her balance back and forth. The effect was comical at first; Addy swayed left and right, her head slowly rotating in lazy circles on her neck. After a few minutes and no sign of this stopping, the Avora’s indulgent smile turned to a frown.

“I think you have had enough. Did you come here with anyone?”

“Wanna Winger!” Apparently, drunk-high Addy lost all semblance of eloquence. Brushing away the man’s hand as he reached to steady her shoulder, Addy tried to stumble away. She grunted in annoyance as she was forced to then twist away as the insistant Avora used his other hand to reach for her shoulder again. "Stop!"

"Did you come with anyone?" He asked again, his face mostly shadowed, his stern yet concerned expression lost in the darkness; however, Addy wasn't particuraly interested in the way that he looked. As the man stared her down, waiting for an answer, Addy was marveling at the specks of light that started to float around her. They had appeared suddenly and the healer thought they were the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, and she wanted one.

And so they watched the healer stagger around within the small circle they had made with their bodies, wordlessly working together when they realized that Addy could be a danger to more than just herself in her current state. When she finally lunged after the mystical ball of light that only she could see, the Avora grabbed her wrist, pulling her into his arms and against his chest so that he could better get her under control.

"We need to go. You're going to hurt someone."

“Lighten up.” She laughed, pushing against his arms and thinking it was all just a game. Giving what she thought was a seductive look ( though it really just looked like she would be sick ) Addy leaned in and tried to kiss at the strange man's neck. Quicker than he should have, the Avora pushed her away from his chest, realizing he should have kept hold on his arm when she reached out a hand to land what she intended to be a light, playful punch on his shoulder. Instead, her aim was too high and her fist carried past his shoulder and into the jaw of the Avora next to him.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” A hand shoved her chest hard, sending her sprawling backwards into the other spectating men and women. It happened in slow motion. It seemed to Addy like she had a good couple of chimes to study each face that came into view as she fell, the different fabrics that brushed her skin as she passed by on her way to the floor all feeling slightly different in their own way. She fell sideways, her hip slamming into the stone floor first before she bounced once from the force of the impact, falling flat the second time, her head smacking soundly. Everything went black.

Before she even opened her eyes, Addy knew that she wasn't at home. The bed just wasn't right; for one thing, it wasn't round. For another, there was no beautiful naked Kelvic woman curled up next to her. No, she was quite alone in her bed, wrapped in multiple furs and with no where near enough pillows.

"Ah, the sleeping beauty awakens." Her eyes flew open at the male voice, vaguely familiar but not what she had expected to wake up too. If anything, she had assumed she was tucked away in Sai's bed; Addy would not put it past her sister to swoop in to the rescue and spirit her away from even Sira's tender love and care. Taking care of the healer was Sairque's job.

"Who.." But the sentence was quickly cut off. Trying to push herself to her elbows, a wave of nausia immediately overtook her.

"Yeah, you're going to be laid out for quite a bit." Trying not to vomit all over the strangers bed, Addy found no reason as to why the man should be chuckling. Her displeasure must have shown plainly across her face because, while the laughter stopped, the man sounded inordinately amused.

"You partied pretty hardy last night, Endal. Do you not remember?" When Addy, tight lipped and pale, shook her head, he nodded and continued. Moving to sit next on the edge of the bed, Addy tried to scooch over to make room, only to receive a restraining hand on her arm.

"No, stay put." A warm mug was pressed into her hands as he continued to speak. "I don't know what you took, but you were wild. Barely able to stand up, yelling at someone who wasn't even there. I think you even started a fight but I doubt it was intentional."

"I...what?" Clearly he was making that up. The last thing Addy remembered was drinking with The Beauty, dancing and... "Oh..." Her lips curled back in a a grimace as the memories started trickling back. She hadn't just been drinking. No, the mystery woman with whom she spent the night had convinced the inebriated healer to try Temper.

"I did drugs...?" Came the shocked whisper after a few chimes of silence stretched between them. No. It couldn't be true. She would never touch the stuff! After seeing the aftermaths of drug use roll in and out of her infirmary, Addy simply knew better than to ever give into that side of the party atmosphere.

"Like I said, I don't know what you did, just how you were acting." A curious motion caught Addy's attention. Glancing from where she was staring blankly at the wall, she watched as the man lifted a wet cloth to his face, covering up a livid black eye that she hadn't noticed until then.

"No.... no! I punched you?!" Absolutely ashamed at this point, Addy shoved herself into an upright position as she fought her way to her saviors side. The room swirled about her and the nausea crept back into her throat but she ignored it. "I'm so sorry! Let me fix it, please!"

Though he opened his mouth to reply and perhaps deny the offer, Addy didn't give him a chance to object. Her hand was already on the tender black and blue flesh, wincing at the puffiness there. A deep breath was all it took to dip into the calm she needed to access her power; that was surprising in and of itself, considering the turmoil that was her emotional state as well as her stomach.

It was a quick fix, thought she couldn't take away all the discoloration Addy was able to alleviate some of the pain and swelling. To the man, it seemed like her touch alone had healing powers, but that was not quite the truth; instead everything she did with her gift went on below the skin. It was a process she didn't care to explain to many.

When she finally sat back, the man had a look of complete respect on his face; apparently the fixing of his battle wound had negated the fact that she was the one that gave it to him in the first place. However, as much as Addy liked the attention and would enjoy reveling in the awed man's company, she had the overpowering urge to find Sira. She needed her lover, needed her reassurance. The momentary reprieve from her guilt that healing had given her only made it worse when the emotions came flooding back.

"I have to go. Thank you for taking care of me." Throwing back the covers, Addy found herself still fully dressed from the night before. Taking no time to find even her shoes, Addy was up and out of the mans rooms before he could even formulate a response.

Sira was in their aerie, lounged on the couch with a book. Golden eyes sparkled with unspoken amusement when the door opened and Addy appeared; apparently her lover had thought that she had spent the night out enjoying herself. The smile quickly faded when Sira saw the stricken look that twisted the healers features.

"Oh god, whats wrong?"

“I… I liked it.”

Just the simple truth of the statement made Addy’s cheeks burn with humiliation. Even though the memory of the night before was riddled with holes, what the little healer did remember made her heart beat faster. On the one hand, she had done something she and never done before and it exhilarated her; she didn’t get out nearly enough these days, hardly catering to her social life like she had previously. With her duties as an Endal and a healer weighing heavily upon her, Addy more often than not found herself curled up at home, dozing, where partying was the least of her worries.

But on the other hand, the lost of control terrified her. When she had gone out, Addy had participated in the tamer side of the social scene, though she had no idea at the time what she was missing. It was a wakeup call, for sure, and the young woman wasn’t handling it well.

“But I hit him. I liked how I felt… Oh, it was so good. And free. No worries, no thoughts, no concerns…. But hit him! How… how can I let myself do that against if I am just going to keep hurting people?”

Addy was curled in Sira’s lap now, her head cradled in her lovers arms as the Kelvic woman shushed her gently, a tolerant smile curling her lips though Addy couldn’t see it. The healer’s aversion to hurting living things had made it unlikely that a Wind Eagle would ever choose her; until Sira came along, of course. Aidara had looked at this trait as a fault, an anomaly in the midst of a culture that did what it had to in order to survive. Sira saw the benefit of the healers gentle heart.

“It’s moderation, love. You did the same amount as that other woman, right?” Addy nodded and Sira ran a gentle hand over the woman’s tangled auburn locks. “Well, was it her first time?” A shake of her head and a sigh from the little woman told Sira that Addy knew exactly where this was going. “Right. I know you know more about this kind of stuff but.. Doesn’t it take you more to get drunk now than when you were sneaking drinks as a Yasi? It works the same for drugs, too, Addy…”

“I know. I know A growl of frustration, and the little woman unwound herself from Sira’s arms, sitting upright and crossing her arms over her chest. “I get it. I had too much. But that doesn’t change the fact that, despite the bad things I did…” Sira snorted at the exaggeration, but Addy plowed forward and ignored the interruption. “… nor the fact that I want MORE!”

“It’s not wrong to want more… We both know other things you can’t get enough of…” Practically purring, Sira had reached out a hand and laid it along Addy’s thigh. Normally, that was all the invitation little woman needed to pounce her lover but her frown only deepened and she even leaned away from the touch, if only slightly.

Sira noticed and withdrew her hand, brows lowering as she tried to keep the hurt at the rejection from showing on her face. “Addy, it’ll be okay… If you want, I can try and keep you from going out and…”

“No, I don’t want you to do anything. I’ve been dependent on something or other my entire life. Don’t you realize?” Her green eyes flashed as the color continued to rise on her cheeks. “We both know that I leaned on Sai to an embarrassing extent. We both know that I was….” A pause, as she struggled for her words, “…unable to come into myself while I depended on her like that. It wasn’t until I fount you, Sira, that I really, finally felt like myself… but now… Last night. That wasn’t me… but I loved it. Are drugs my next Sai? Am I really incapable of just… being me?”

“Addy, you know that’s not true! No matter what you do, you’re still you. Not everything has to be pinned down and defined like one of your books!” Though she had just been trying to make a connection, Sira’s comment came out harsher than she had intended. As a result, Addy drew completely away from her loved, a hard look in her eyes.

“I’m going…. Out. Just…..out.” Rising from the couch, Addy turned on her heel and stormed from the aerie.

The Sphinx's Judgement
An injury was obtained, and because I like injuries I'm going to document it right here for you. ;) Due to hitting the wall head on, and then falling on the floor and hitting her head the second time, Aidara will suffer headaches for a few days, feel sensitive around her forehead, and the split in her lip will take five days to heal up. As this thread happened last year, these injuries no longer apply unless you flashback.

I liked this thread greatly! I enjoyed the way Aidara basically reasoned out that using wouldn't have bad effects on her, and then as soon as it took effect she ran face first into a wall and ended up on the floor (shame on Beautiful for laughing!... although I did too. o.o )

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your grade, please send me a PM and we can figure it out. :)
