Eridanus sighed when he was finally done, but he realized that he still had two more focus parchments he had to place. And some way to dispose of the bodies without anyone finding out. Time was ticking on, and if he got caught inside the ship doing his thing while the rest of the crew came back he was pretty sure he was not going to survive fighting his way out. This had to be done as quickly as possible, and he next crept towards the kitchen.

He had counted five men when he was spying on the ship, and he knew that two were guarding outside while he had already neutralized two. This meant that there was one more somewhere around the ship and so he had to be careful with his movements. He made his way towards the kitchen, always taking note of where he was relative to the rest of the glyphs he had laid out painstakingly so that he could figure out the fastest way to connect them.

Suddenly, he heart footsteps and he ducked into another room, watching a shadow move pass as the remaining patrolling guard walked by. His heart pounding furiously in his chest, the ethaefal silently crept up behind the man, his hand reaching into his robes and gripping the bone handle of his dagger. When he got as close as he dared, he quickly stepped forward, plunging the dagger into the man's kidney just as before and pushing it deeper as the guard struggled, unable to give a cry of surprise due to Eri's hand covering his mouth.

Eri supported the body before it collapsed to the floor and flipped it around so that the wound faced upwards again, dragging the newly-made corpse to the room he was hiding in. He had no idea what the room was for, but he stashed the body away from the door making a mental note to return to dispose of it when he was done.

Tracing his steps back to the kitchen, he assessed the area before placing the third focus parchment underneath a huge sack of wheat that lay in the corner of the room. Like what he did with the barrels of ale, he made sure to put it underneath the sack closest to the wall, and that meant heavy lifting again as he struggled to move the sacks away so that he could put his parchment into position, then panting as he lugged the outer sacks back into position.

He was used to this repetitive procedure by now and his practised eyes scanned the area, taking into account of his position respective to the rest of the glyphs. He decided that it would be more convenient to connect this area to crew bunks instead of the captain's quarters as he did the previous two, and he began to alternate between carving path sigils on various hiding spots and placing the path parchments at regular intervals. Finally he reached the wall connecting the room he was in and the crew bunks and he etched a glyph on the wall close to the floor, quickly exiting the room and entering the room next to it to place a similar glyph on the same spot but on opposite sides of the wall, establishing the final connection.

The last one would be at the front of the ship and that would be hardest one of all for he would be out in the open. He strode briskly out of the cabins, feeling the cool night air on his skin once more and he spotted the two remaining mercenaries outside the ship sitting around looking bored. He whistled and motioned to one of them, a suitably nervous expression on his face, and the man crossed the plank into the ship to ask him what was wrong.

"Gron... Gron says that there is something that he needs a second opinion on," He said nervously, and the man buffed his chest out at the idea that their leader needed his thoughts on something. He told his partner that he would be back soon, and Eri lead him, not into the cabins but around the structure jutting out of the ship that would serve to block line of sight between the guy following him and his partner.

"Gron needs you to take a look at this and report to him your findings," Eri hurried the man, pointing towards the corner at the bottom of the railings of the ship and as the curious man bent down to take a closer look, Eri quickly drew his dagger and savagely dug it into the man's throat from behind. The guard struggled and gurgled, but Eri clamped his hand shut over the man's mouth as he finished severing the man's windpipe with the vicious steel blade, dumping the man overboard into the sea.

There was a loud splash, and Eri quickly ran out to the last person, looking flustered and scared. He beckoned over to the guard and using his weakest whimpering voice he said, "Your friend dropped overboard just now when he lost his footing on the slippery floor. I don't know how to swim. Go help him, please!"

"So that was what the splash was, that bloody clumsy fellow. Gron ain't gonna like this," He grumbled, jogging towards where he saw the Eri brought his partner. They reached the edge of the boat, and as the guard peered over the railings to look for his partner, Eri quickly stabbed the man from behind. Before he could react, the ethaefal withdrew the dagger and plunge it several more times into the back of neck, before dumping the man overboard, causing a second splash.

He checked the ground to make sure that there was no blood, and used the water that was ever present on ship floors to wash away the blood before it dried. Quickly heading to the steering wheel in front, he scanned the floor before finding several floorboards that could be torn out due to exposure to the environments. He grunted as he pulled out the floorboard closest to the wheel, placing the last focus parchment in it before replacing the floorboard. His strength was already being severely tested, but he soldiered on as he removed the next few floorboards and placed the last few path parchments he had in them.

There was no more time for more sigil carving, and he was glad that he had those parchments left. The glyphs on the parchments he placed liberally underneath the various floorboards in the front of the ship would be able to connect it with the rest of the glyph array he had so carefully plotted out and hidden throughout the ship, and with that there was a few more things he had to do before he could leave.

Eridanus was getting nervous as he made his way back into the cabin, for he was not sure just how much time have passed for it was hard to tell when he had been doing the mind-numbing carving. He had no idea how he could succeed without the parchments containing the complex path sigils and he silently thanked Captain Dewarky for having the foresight to provide him with all the resources he could find instead of just handing him the focus parchments.

His heart pounded in fear and he yearned to quickly get the hell out of the incriminating place, and he opened the door of the captain's quarters, letting himself in. He remembered the spot where he was supposed to carve the last path sigil that would connect the captain's quarters to the sigil opposite the wall to the crew bunks and he urgently did so, his hands sore from gripping the bone handle of his dagger for too long as he worked.

Finally he was done, and the entire glyph array was truly completed. He was still far from being safe, and he looked underneath the desk to find the two corpses he had to get rid off. First, he unbuckled the various empty straps in his weapon harness in order to strap the gladius and short sword there. He did not want to make too many trips and though he would look awkward his only concern was to get this over and done with and to get out of there before the rest of the crew returned.

He grunted as he first heaved the leader's body, carrying him up as if he was cradling a baby and he trudged upwards and out of the cabin. Going back to the same spot where he dumped his most recent two victims, he placed the body against the railings as he quickly pilfered the leader's possessions, finding the man's personal money pouch as well as the pouch of money that he was paid with by the errant pirates earlier. With that, he pocketed the two pouches and dumped the body over.

Before the body splashed into the water he was already making his way back into the cabin, every chime he spent on this ship adding to his nervousness. As he jogged back towards the captain's quarters, he tried to calm his panicking heart, using the same meditative techniques he used to calm himself as he headed back for the last body underneath the desk.

He grunted as he lifted the body, then released it as his muscles twitched and he realized that his body was at its physical limit. He had been using his arms to carve for too long and lifting way too many heavy objects while shifting things around. He swore in panic, forcing himself to calm down as he did a last-ditch procedure, channelling djed up into his upper torso as he felt some relief entering his arms. He knew that this was an illusion of strength, and he laboured to quickly do what he had to do.

With the temporary strength granted to him from flux, he carried the body, moving as fast as he could without dropping the body towards the dumping spot. Leaning the body against the railing, his searching fingers found the man's personal money pouch and he pocketed it quickly, throwing the body overboard. With a heart full of joy, he began to run as fast as he could out of the ship without slipping.

Just as he was about to cross the plank that served as the connecting path between the ship and the docks, he realized with a sinking heart that he still had one more body stashed in there. He could have smacked himself for forgetting such an important thing. With a new sense of urgency, the ethaefal ran as fast as he could back into the ship without falling on the wet floor, letting himself back into the cabins.

Trying to remember where he left the last body, he first found the kitchen and traced his steps to the room where he stashed his victim. He picked up the short sword the man dropped on the corridor floor, quickly buckling it to his side. It would weigh him down, but he needed both his hands to carry the man and he could not leave a random weapon lying about that would incriminate him.

Lifting the man up, even his flux-enhanced muscles were beginning to fail him and he had to drag the man by his armpits, trying his best to get the corpse out. After several tense chimes he finally reached the dumping ground, and he looted the man as per normal before dumping him overboard.

He was done at last, and he quickly pushed the remaining gathered djed in his upper torso back down, feeling the real weight of his muscles protesting as his djed streams returned to normal. Without the illusion of strength granted to him by flux he could feel his entire upper torso burning from the continuous physical exertion, and he quickly made his way out of the ship.

It was with a light heart that he exited the ship, finally heaving a sigh of relief when he was officially out of the area. The adrenaline within him died down, and he suddenly felt more tired than what he had been feeling, his body aching terribly from his continuous actions and his mind tired not only from the djed manipulations he used but also from the terror and fear he felt while he was back on the ship, working desperately and hoping that no one came back.

There was no one around in the pier and he knew that the errant crew would return to find the mercenaries gone, blaming the hired hands on their lack of commitment but otherwise suspecting nothing. He made his way back to The Floating Peace, and was shown into the captain's quarters.

Captain Dewarky seemed like he had not moved from the last position Eri saw him in, and the huge man began when the door was closed behind him. "So?", he barked, though he did not betray any surprise that he might have at Eri's changed appearance. Apparently one of his men had seen the transformation and had already updated the captain about Eri's new form. The weathered pirate had seen much on his travels and was unfazed by such curiosities.

"It wasn't easy, I tell you. I've never done such a bloody huge array before, but I did it to the best of my ability. I'm not sure if it will work perfectly, but what I do know is that the four areas will explode with whatever that's stored inside the focus parchments. Whether they will follow the paths and burn the entire ship... I cannot guarantee."

The captain listened and he chuckled appreciatively, saying, "It does not matter, if the paths worked it just meant that the crew would die faster. The ship will still sink anyway and since they're in the middle of nowhere no one will save them. In fact, I will make sure I sail together with them and pick off any survivors when it happened."

The huge man called for another of his men waiting outside, and a subordinate let himself into the room, jogging over to the captain and whispering into his ears. It seemed that what he had to say was pretty wordy, and the captain grunted and nodded at several points as the man continued whispering, and finally he dismissed the man again, grunting with satisfaction.

"I see that you have indeed fulfilled your part of the bargain, though I find it amusing that you chose to leave no witnesses to tell the tale. Brutal, but effective. I am convinced that you'll make a very good privateer. If you ever wish to take up a life sailing let me know, and together we will conquer the seas," Dewarky laughed, and he stood up from his chair, reaching underneath his bed to pull out a small steel box. He took out a key in his coat and he unlocked the box, taking out a bulging pouch of what looked like coins from it before unlocking it and pushing it back underneath his bed.

"I see that you have misappropriated quite a few things," Dewarky remarked as his eyes took in the several extra weapons Eri had strapped on himself in a hurry, and the ethaefal shrugged in response, "Better than throwing them overboard as well."

The captain motioned for Eri to sit again and he resumed his position on his chair, placing the heavy pouch on the table in front of him. "I trust that you have fulfilled your end of the bargain while inside the ship for I have no way of telling if you have actually did it inside the ship. My men did see you placing the glyphs near the navigational wheel underneath the floorboards and so I take it that you have done similar things throughout. That was a stroke of genius I tell you, I'll have to get my men to search my ship for any stray floorboards as well. Just in case."

Pushing the pouch forward to Eri, he continued, "Captain Dewarky is a man of his words. Though I may make a lawless living plundering others I recognize a trusty and talented ally when I see one. Let it be known that Dewarky rewards talent and reliability. I promised great compensation should you succeed, and so here is your reward."

As Eri picked up the heavy pouch, he pocketed it, feeling the weight in his clothes as Dewarky continued, "But I do warn you that if it had all been a sham you will officially be declared an enemy of Dewarky and his allies. Until we meet again, and if providence sees it fit that we do we will either meet as strong allies or hated enemies. I do hope it's the former; I see much potential in you."

With his warning, he dismissed the ethaefal and Eri left the ship, heading out of the pier for some well-deserved rest. He would definitely need it, and he wearily trudged back to his resting spot. He was too tired to even count the spoils of today. Come tomorrow he would properly count what he earned and sell off the extra three weapons weighing him, but for now, rest was all he desired.
