It was finally over.
Those hellish weeks of being confined to the Pavillion had come to an end, and Laria could not be more relieved. Of course, it had been a necessary thing to do and she had agreed with it fully, but that didn’t mean she liked it. It was typical that her Pavilions horses had caught the illness. To her father, it had meant the possibility of loosing horses. To Laria it meant she was separated from the one person she needed to be with.

Naturally though, she couldn’t just run off on the first day they were free. The horses still came first no matter what she had planned for the day. Laria found herself, yet again, with the mammoth task of feeding a whole stable on her own. She had managed to get through the first half in just over a bell. Lugging the feed buckets around every day for the past month had made her stronger though, which meant she was working a lot quicker.

She wandered over to the end of the stable and stepped outside for a small break. Her Strider, Aurora, was waiting patiently for her. Laria smiled and ran a hand down the mares beautiful nose. Today she would get to ride out properly; the poor mare had been in quarantine with the rest of the stable. “I’ll take you over to the Sapphire Clans hmm? You can finally meet Bold!” A wistful smile crossed the young woman’s face, and the Strider seemed to pick up on the emotion, letting out a soft whinny. A last pat was given before Laria turned and headed back into the stables to continue her work.

Almost another bell passed before the last horse was fed, and Laria trudged back down the stalls to return the empty bucket. As she passed some of the empty stables, pangs wrenched at her heart. They had failed to save every animal that had caught the illness and it saddened her deeply. The horses weren’t just her fathers business, they were her friends. She knew each and every one of them as individuals. Loosing even one was heartbreaking enough, loosing more… there were no words to describe the feeling. With a sigh she reached up to hook the bucket handle on the peg on the back wall, thus bringing her daily job to an end.
