Sploosh!

A white explosion of slushy ice collided against the back of a middle-aged Vantha man's head, melting next to his warm skin and sending tiny wisps of evaporated water into the arctic air of Avanthal. The cold ice seeped down his neck, quickly racing to the skin covering his back. A yelp burst from his lips, not from the shock of the cold that attacked his skin, but rather the surprise that came from the hurling snowball. He quickly turned on the balls of his feet, looking for the culprit of the shenanigans.

High-pitched, muffled laughter came from behind a street corner, but it was nothing that the man's ears could catch. A young girl, around seven years old had her tiny hand plastered against her mouth, trying to capture the giggles that had escaped her.

The man's eyes surveyed the narrow alleyway, discovering nothing but empty crates and rotten fish littering the stone ground. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion and annoyance and a deep scowl was etched into his face. Wouldn't these kids ever learn how to treat their elders?! Swiftly he turned back, pausing for a moment before continuing on his way to where ever he was destined.

As soon as the young Kaiielle could not hear the crunch of the man's walk, she could not help herself to break out in a fit of laughter, it no more covered by her hands. She clutched at her belly while she started walking again. People were starting to give her looks, but she was oblivious. She thought what she had done had been the funniest thing someone has ever attempted.

Arriving at her own destination at the Skyglow hold, she began to bang on a wooden door. "Coren, come out! I wanna do something today!"

Coren had been bent over the same storybook he had read so many times lately, bringing up the fading memories of his mother telling those stories not to long ago. His happy reading time was interruppted as somebody began knocking on his door like a maniac. A look of confusion coming over his face as he put his book back on his nightstand and began to walk towards the door, but before he could even begin to wonder who the heck was banging on his door he heard the the voice of kaiielle. Coren let out a sigh at her impatience before calling back.
“I'm coming kaii. Just hold on to your patience for a few moments will you.” he said in a patient tone as he pulled open his door and looked straight at kaiielle. “So what did you want to do with me that you ran all the way to here for?” Coren questioned. “It better not be another one of those hairbrained schemes of yours that alway's end up blowing up in our faces though.”

Kaiielle's bottom lip pursed out, giving the look of a little pout as Coren spoke of these so called, "hairbrained schemes". She thought all of her ideas were very well thought out and smart! Of course, they did always seem to go awry, but that wasn't always her fault. It was always someone else's mistake, or in her seven-year-old mind it was anyway.

Kaiielle placed a sassy hand on her hip, her face turning stern. "Well of course not, Coren!" she said, looking at him as if what he just said was the most insulting thing in the world. "If you must know... I am bored. And no one can play today. So come on! Please?" She dragged out the "E" in please. She took his arm and mustered all of the strength from her little body she could and pulled on it, trying to get him to come out of the doorway. "It'll be something fun, I promise!"

If Coren agreed, she didn't know what she'd do, but throwing more snowballs at people sounded entertaining. It was still early in the day and so much was to be had. The antsy Kaii always had to be doing something until the all the light of the day had vanished.

Coren just smiled in amusement as kaiielle pouted at him, she had used that face way to many times on him to let it have any effect on him anymore. But when she began to plead and beg for him to play with her, even going so far to taking his arm and trying to pull him with her he began to chuckle, affectionally ruffeling her hair with the hand that was still free.

“Sure I'll play with you today, kaii.” Coren said in an amused tone. “So what did you have in mind to do?” Coren said with a mischievous grin plastered on his face, looking straight at her with his now dark green eyes. He knew kaii good enough that she didn't have a clue what she wanted to do and just wanted to see her squirm while she tried to pull some kind of activity out of her head for a while. Besides even if she did pull out one of her hairbrained schemes out of her head he alway's had a great time playing allong with them and he could usually find some kind of excuse to get out of punishment, though he wouldn't admit that to kaii for anything. How else would he be able to mess with her then!

Kaiielle's mouth pulled up to the side, almost in disappointment when she saw that her pouty faces didn't seem to have that influence that they once did. She huffed her long, brown hair from her face, looking up to Coren. Letting go of his arm, she used her hands to put them on her hips again. Her face quickly brightened again though, letting her youth shine when he agreed to play with her.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure!" she said, racking her brain for ideas. She thought for a couple seconds before showing that something had clicked, a mischievous smile slowly spreading across her face. "Oh, I know exactly what we should do! That mean fish vendor told on me yesterday to my mom. We should do something to him!"

Kaii hated it when people would tattle-tale on her. Almost always she was one for vengeance, even for her young age. She was a witty little thing, or at least that's what she liked to call herself. Most of the other people in Avanthal had other names for her. Mostly not so nice ones.

She now quirked an eybrow, eager to get going. "What do you think? Let's go!" she said, grabbing for his arm once again.

When kaiielle, just like he expected, piped up that she didn't really have any ideas right at the moment he just let a knowing smile slip on his face.
“Well, there has be something you want to do.” coren encouraged the little girl a little bit as her entire face scrunched up as she began to think about what they could play, or at least keep both of them busy with and as sure as snow would fall a mischievous smile slowly spread on her face and told him her plan. The same mischievous grin also spread on coren's face as ideas began tumbling through his head.

“We will think something on the way, lets go and find that snitching snitch and show them what happens when you mess with us.” Coren said with a tingle of excitement in his tone at the prospect of a prank as he let kaiielle grab his arm pull him along leading him towards the market. Coren took the time they where trying to find the mean person again to throw out some ideas.
“Well, its a fishmonger we gotta take back, so I say we gotta do something with rotting fish parts, nobody likes rotting fish bits. We could throw the junk on him, or we could try and stuff it back into his fishes or something like that. Or maybe distract him while I or you quickly shove a handfull down his pants!” Coren exitedly stated before looking around on the market they just arrived at. "Now who is that fishy guy kaii.” Coren asked as he looked around.

Kaiielle threw her head back, laughing as Coren told her of his ideas. She clapped her hands together and nodded. "Yes! That sounds so smart. Good one, Coren." She spun on her heels, her hair flipping around in her face.

She began to walk slowly, keeping her eyes peeled for their victim. One might think that Kaiielle would have a guilty conscious, but she didn't. She kept on her merry way, a mischievous look plastered upon her face. Her eyes filed back and forth on the big crowd gathered in the market. A bigger smile couldn't be found when she spotted the fish vendor, and bucket of the unwanted guts not too far away from him. She clapped again and tapped Coren, pointing out the man to him. "Him! That old guy right there." Truth is, the vendor wasn't really that old, but Kaii wanted to put a bite into her words, mostly just to make herself feel better.

Her smile faltered a little when she realized that someone was actually going to need to perform the prank. "Okay, now... go!" she said to Coren, nodding her head vigorously. It's not that she didn't want to do it, she just didn't want to get caught doing it. Her heart sped up a bit at the thought of getting caught, but then the high of adrenaline came and she was just as giddy as ever.

She beckoned Coren along, encouraging him to get the guts and do something nasty to the man. "Go, go!"

Coren puffed out his chest a little bit as the little Kaii told him he was smart. “Well of course I am.” He said with a bright smile on his face as he followed kaii for a while, waiting for her to point out the one that would fall victim to his devious ideas.
He got a wicked grin on his face and his eyes sparked a mischievous dark green as Kaii pointed him towards the middle aged man who had been a tattle tale and the bucket of filth that nobody was paying attention to right now. He nodded when kaii said he should go.

“Sure sure I'll go and do it, but you gotta keep his attention away from me or we will be both in trouble.” He gave her a light prod. “Now go and get his attention away from me somehow while I sneak towards him for the bucket.” Coren gave her the vague instructions and quickly began making his way through the crowd and towards the fish merchant, taking a detour so he would stay to the side the man wasn't looking towards at the moment. He slowed down and carefully tried to tiptoe towards the bucket as silently as he could while hoping that whatever Kaii was going to do would keep the man from just turning around and easily spotting him.
