Delicious meats and fragrant breads lured Nykko out of his tent space amongst where the Skyglow areas around the market where the sculptures were set up. He'd been working on his juggling ice for too long now and his muscles were starting to cramp from sitting too long. He got up to stretch.
He looked around with a fascinated expression. He felt like a stranger amongst his people, he doubted anyone would recognize him personally. He only ever came into town to make a few Mizas every once in a while when he did his juggling shows. Even now, he felt the claustrophobia creep in. He shuddered and shrugged it off.
With Morwen's gift to keep him warm, he had no need of the cloak he brought along, his spiraling tattoos the only thing covering his chest and back. As he was leaving, he smelled the familiar scent of fresh Djed being ignited. His eye color turned from their usual blue to a suspicious green. Using Fire Reimancy in his Juggling shows for a while now, he knew that feeling all too well. He turned around to see one of the Skyglow’s large Tigress statues being ignited and Coren, one of the people assigned to watch the statues, running after a mysterious culprit.
This was all too comical for him. Had he been more attached to his people, he probably would have been furious. He remembered a time when he would have joined Coren in the heated pursuit, which was embarrassing enough for Coren more than it should have.
Nykko chuckled as he walked away to the bread stands. His stomach was growling, he hadn’t had anything to eat that morning. He was still smiling at what happened. He was sorry he missed it; he really wanted to see who it was that started the mischievous prank. He smiled as he tried to recreate the scene in his imagination. He laughed again, harder this time.
He played with fire Reimancy all the time in his juggling acts. Just parlor tricks. He loved the edge of danger and was glad to know there were others out there that knew danger was just a second emotion for them. The thrill to feel alive and visit the brink of it.
He didn’t realize where he was walking as he made his way to the bread stands, when he walked right into a giant wall of Fur! Oomf! It was a Jamoura!

Gromm, an 8-and-a-half-foot giant, had been bumped into once again. He looked down, agitated, and saw it was another human, a vantha. It was getting somewhat tedious for a man as big as a boulder to be so seemingly hard to notice. "I'm not exactly easy to miss you know." He stated, in a somewhat gruff voice. It came out harsher than he had intended, he didn't want to scare anyone away but the vantha have proven to be a shortsighted people in his experience.

As Nykko spit some fur out (which smelled much better than he thought it would if he ever did run into a giant ape) he stepped back and just stared in wonder. They didn't get too many Jamoura in these parts of the world, maybe because of the cold, and he didn't himself come to town enough to see any. Nykko's senses came back to him, trying to sound casual and not at all amazed by the sight. "I'm so sorry about that, sir. Some commotion over there stole my gaze for just a second. You must think me rude. My name is Nykko Lightstorm, I'm a fire juggler set up right over there. I was right about to get a bite to eat; Here, I'll get you something to make up for my rudeness." He hoped he wasn't going too far, the Jamouras arms looked like they could snap an evergreen in half. "Er...I hear they have some fantastic Banana bread over by the next stall there..." Nykko said.

Gromm let out hardy laugh, everyone always assumes jamouras like bananas. "I am Gromm, jamouran warrior." Many vantha had bumped into him, but this Nykko was the first to give him a proper apology. "Very well, tiny human, you may buy me a meal." Gromm replied. "Although I should tell you I prefer meat." Gromm hated bananas, but he thought it would be rude to say so.

Nykko gulpped (which he hoped wasn't visible) "Gromm, right?" he said, withholding a stammer, now knowing that he was a giant, muscle-bound fuzzy warrior...who was a carnivour! But Gromm laughed, didn't he? Laughter was always a good sign of amnisty.
"Well, Gromm, mighty lord of the Spires, there is a stand that gets set up every time around festival time that I hope is still around this year. They serve some of the biggest pieces of Whale I've ever seen!"
Nykko made a hand gesture opening his arms wide. He patted Gromm on the back (which Nykko hoped he was actually not smacking his rear, Gromm being so giant) with a good hardy smack and gestured him along the crowded streets of the Market place.

Gromm followed the young mans lead. "I'm no lord, you should know." He began in a more conversational tone. "Certainly mighty though, there's no disputing that."

"Your people are remarkably oblivious to the obvious, I must say." Gromm said, trying not to offend. "I've been bumped into everywhere I go. I had no intention on coming to this festival, yet where ever I go something gets in my way." He let out a sigh of frustration, Gromm was not a party person in any sense of the word. "I'm hoping there will be sparing matches of some sort, maybe I'll find a human that will give me a challenge." Although he doubted that, few wish to stand toe to toe with a jamoura, an akalak maybe but not a vantha.

Postby Coren on December 5th, 2011, 10:23 pm

Coren muttered a few curses in vani as he wasn't getting any closer to his target and he slowly saw her blend into the crowd. He turned around and began to walk back to find a way to break the news to the poor vantha who's carving was ruined and how to make all of this look like it wasn't his fault to them, fairly secure in the fact that whatever happened, it couldn't get any worse then this.

Of course as soon as he said that alea tackled him with all the force the tiny fifteen year old girl could muster, knocking coren out of balance. Luckely for him though, he was able to grab a random vantha before he was knocked to the ground.
“Oh, eh sorry.” Coren quickly appologized to the man before turning towards whoever had bumped into him, his eyes turning into a dull yelow color as he saw the same little girl who had been annoying him day's ago in the library.
“What is your petching problem girl?” Coren said in an annoyed tone, the way the spoiled brat acted the last time they met still fresh in his mind.

Alea grinned with a glint of mischief in her eye. "Problem?" she said innocently. "I don't have a problem. I am so terribly sorry for bumping into you, accidentally." Alea also remembered their last encounter, and while tackling Coren was satisfying, it was hardly sufficient payback for what he'd done to her. Remembering how angry she was with him, she put her hands on her hips and said petulantly, "And my name is Alea, not girl!"

For some reason, just being around Coren made Alea want to mess with him, so she added, "Besides, it's not like you were doing anything important." She accompanied this comment with an aloof pose that involved studying her fingernails.

...."And that, my good ape, is exactly how I caught my very first whale!" Nykko stated, as he crammed what seemed like charred blubber in his mouth. He had been telling his tale about how he and six of his childhood friends brought down a whale, (which in truth had actually been a smallish beluga, technically a whale) and it took him nearly an hour to finish the story. He used wide hand gestures and very animated facial expressions, especially the part when the whale was dying ( It must have looked too comical to a bystander)
Nykko had brought Gromm to the Market stand that sold chunks of whale meat with mashed vegetables that could be only found in the northern regions. Although Nykko was slightly disappointed that the biggest chunk of meat that they sold at the market had fit perfectly into Gromms giant hands. He didn't know if this meat would be satisfying or not.
Gromm had asked him earlier while walking in the streets if he knew any Vantha warriors that could take Gromm on in a sparring match, Nykko had no idea how to answer that, and he felt shame.
Nykko had lived on the outside of society for so long now, he had lost touch with his fellow Vantha to really know someone nowdays. Sure, he used to know a few boys (now adults) that got into the Icewatch, but they probably wouldn't recognize him now as a street performer.
"Gromm, you wanted to know if there were a few of us who could attempt to best you at a sparring match? Well, I'm not much of a fighter myself, though I can hold my own very well amongst my kind, I don't know about you.." Nervousness creeped back in as he noticed just how many battle scars this Jamoura had on his chest.
"Well, I would suggest you ask one of the Icewatch. Perhaps they would know about it. I don't know many people around here these days, only when put on my shows to come into town." Nykko grinned

"Icewatch? Maybe, humans are too small and fragile to put up a fight against a jamoura." Gromm replied, now much more comfortable around Nykko. "I met one who almost cut me in half though," Gromm pointed to scar across his stomach, it was far deeper than the other ones he collected. "Your're a street performer, you said? Does that mean you came to the festival to ply your trade?" He asked, licking the whale juice off his fingers. "No, that can't be it. I'm no psychic but it looks like you have some other business here. Not trying to pry, but may I ask what it is?"
