The glyphs that made up the malediction circle he was carving into the fox's skull were not complex in and of themselves, but he was trying to chain them together in such a way that would make the mental effects an augmentation rather than something that overwhelmed the wearer with foreign instincts. "I'm trying to make this a subtle thing, which would be difficult to detect, but rather than have a fox's instincts take over, it would nudge the mind in a different direction than it would normally take. The fox's direction, so to speak. It's a bit big to be worn, but perhaps some scholar will have it as a paperweight in her office, and will hold it while thinking on some problem, and this will nudge her mind onto a new track. I'm not trying to remake the world here, just make little changes and observe the effects. "But yes, they can be difficult to detect.
