Owls and Eagles (Tiaue'a)

Postby Tiaue'a on January 4th, 2012, 11:05 pm

It was rather unfortunate that day. Tiaue`a’s stomach was grumbling too! She worked so damn hard sometimes, and to what end? None really, but that wasn’t the point; the point was she wanted foo-

She peered down at the little morsel wobbling along the ground far down below her. She had been circling over the crater for a while now. The volcanoes below, dormant or not, still created that heated pillar of air and she could glide along it for hours. And she had tried to do that to get her mind off of things, like hunger, but some distractions, almost like cravings, seemed to enter her mind, like memories of a fresh meal. Regardless of that, it was a lovely day; the sky was gray, like the fur of the wolves, and the ground glittering with white, reminding her of the winter rabbits. Underneath that coating, she knew well enough that there were still those Inarta hard at work with their red flowing hair, which almost appeared like trickling blood over the fur of her prey. But Tiaue`a knew how to keep focused, of course.

All the same knowing something doesn’t necessarily mean she’d abide by it. It was a shame the poor dek wouldn’t have rat tonight, those that were desperate enough that was, but oh well! Finders keepers.

She had passed the little owl off before, but kept turning her head back over her shoulder to keep a watch on her meal. Like hell anyone was taking her meat! She then began to descend, her back arched and her wings tipped forward and she began to glide down. She made a sort of figure eight to get behind the owl. In her final moments she soon realized she didn’t have the room from this angle to snatch the rat up. She wouldn’t make that mistake again; she didn’t like making a mess of herself when she ate, especially not in front of others. To some other misfortunate she also soon realized it wasn’t a rat, but an owl instead. If the Inarta had a repertoire of naughty taboo words, she was thinking of them in rapid succession, vigorous, rapid succession…

She drew herself back again and beat down at the ground when she spread around the snow and landed with a less than graceful look upon her face. The Inarta couldn’t truly tell, but any bird, or maybe some Inarta familiar with the birds, would see that deranged look in her eyes…the demands of her voracity. Maybe she was just in one of those sadist moods, but she began to chatter with her meal telepathically. Most of the time it was an accident, but that didn’t make a difference because they didn’t always understand Nari! More misfortune! She probably tipped the kelvic off on her ingenious plan to end her hunger. Take it for what you will, birds were sacred to the Inarta…but there are always exceptions. Besides, it was her colony, Tiaue`a’s, perhaps she was just guarding it, cleaning up, tending to her hunting grounds, call it what you will. Give me my meal!

She was cautious to not give herself away too much. The colony birds of Mount Skynarta were generally fair to their smaller kin, and respectful enough to not commit a lesser degree of fratricide. What to do, oh what to do…? Her right talon stepped forward and back. She didn’t want to get too close, so she started to lean in closer as she whispered sweetly in her mind and Strix’s, “Come here, little owl. Oh that’s a good girl, good girl. You’re sure a pretty little owl. Look at those perky little cheeks and that plump stomach! Why I could just eat you right up, now couldn’t I dummy? Why yes I could, of yes I could! Oh, you look so tasty, I can hardly keep my talons from you!

Tiaue`a’s beak was open loose ready to take a swift peck at the little owl and gobble her up in one bite. It was better that way! No mess to clean if she were to pick her apart on the courtyard, and better yet, no witnesses. If the Yasi were to ask where she went she could just say “Oh, the owl? She flew off!,” but no! The little bugger had those big eyes staring right back at her. The slightest wrong move could set off an alarm, alert the guard, startle mass panic! Oh the catastrophe that would cause… She just kept a fast distance until she could step a little closer and snatch the morsel in her beak. The temptation to take her now was almost too promising.

Owls and Eagles (Tiaue'a)

Postby Strix on January 19th, 2012, 10:52 pm

Strix hooted loudly as the eagle made a pass at her - was the thing insane?! Either that or neglected - she was hungrier than it and wouldn't even be worth the snack. Frantically, she dodged another pass and hopped away, fluttering slightly despite the broken wing. Endals looked on in amusement, her misfortune brightening an otherwise dull winter's day. Such is the way, she consoled herself. I have to get to safety, now!

She registered vaguely that the eagle was talking to her, but not audibly. Patronizing words about what good prey she was, how nice she would taste, how crunchy she would be. What an insult, to be threatened with death because of her own low status, by one of those puffed-up birds, and then to be patronized while it toyed with her! The indignity!

She stopped hopping and watched it. The eagle was crowing, of all the undignified noises an eagle could make, in a mockery of her situation. At least it recognizes how close to a carrion animal it's coming, she thought. She sighed, a slight whistling noise issuing from her beak, and tensed up to prepare for the incoming metric ton of giant eagle. Closer, closer...

She screamed at the top of her voice and threw herself at the eagle - nothing for it, she simply had to drive it off before it stopped toying with her. Her broken wing didn't allow her to flap for very long, but the one flutter she got in before pain broke her concentration and the ground broke her fall allowed her to immediately start hopping towards safety. The door she came out of, the other side of the courtyard. So close...

Owls and Eagles (Tiaue'a)

Postby Tiaue'a on March 17th, 2012, 12:44 am

Strix zoomed at her little lightning speed right between Ti`ue’s legs. Snap! The eagle’s beak tried to clamp down on her before she could pass, but she missed. The owl’s hooting seemed to alert the others around them, birds, Inarta, and Wind Eagles alike. Tiaue`a rebounded from the failure and started to turn on her talons, snapping back over her side for the little owl. Her wings sprawled outward like some flapping chicken would, and she let out a terrible screech. If she was caught, then by the gods she would have this owl as lunch!

To great surprise to outsiders, no one seemed to budge for the little owl. Not only were they unaware of her being a kelvic, the general population surely, but it was life’s cycle. Food was scare and well…a bird with an injured wing didn’t help much of the cause. No Inarta would dare touch the bird, but the eagles could sympathize for Ti`ue’s efforts. It seemed a particular few even envied the idea from the intensities of their looks at the other smaller birds that lingered. Not so much the raptors, but everything else was fair game. Between owls and eagles, eagles came first.

Ti`ue had made a full rotation, and now prepared herself to swoop up Strix before the owl could get inside. Her head was small enough to peck through the columns, but once the kelvic got into the mountain far enough, there’d be no hope.

The thought of what she was doing briefly flickered as she prepared her charge for the little morsel. Was it that cruel, to be reduced to such a maddening hunger that you are willing to devour your own? This poor, helpless, crippled night bird whose wisdom was rumored to be as telling as that of the shadows of the forest, Akajia’s kin, was is wrong to feast upon her plump little bosom? Would she, Tiaue`a, truly disregard all senses of morality, respect, and dignity for this insignificant spec of sweet flesh layed before her all wrapped up in a colorful little coat just to spare herself a few more minutes of the tormenting hunger?!

YES! YES! YES!!!

It was almost as scene from the theaters. The enormous scaled and feathered beast spread its wings apart from its full breast, leaned forward and let out a terrifying roar of warning that said “You will be mine!” and let out in a full charge. Ti`ue’s talons clenched the stone and ripped forward. Her speed on her claws was surprisingly swift for a creature of the sky.

As Strix practically tumbled into the hallway, Ti`ue’s massive form caught itself on the gateway. Her wings were too broad to fit, but her long neck proposed some leverage. She cawed and snapped at the little owl who had plenty of room to run in either direction. Either way, Ti`ue had to act quickly to get at her. There was no chance of pleading for mercy. Ti`ue would be satisfied…

To Ti`ue’s right she became aware of the courtyard’s continuation. It would be easier to snap at Strix on foot, not to mention the other doorways that would allow for her greater reach. She might even squeeze if she felt thin enough. But should the owl follow to Ti`ue’s left that would lead her off of the current ledge. She’d have to hover and snap through the columns in mid-flight for the little owl. To some satisfaction, she wondered of the small courtyard at the end of that path even… If the owl ran mindlessly enough, Ti`ue’s prey would be out in the open again and she’d descend upon her with her knife-like talons and feast!

"I’m coming for you, little munchkin," Ti`ue not only thought, but cawed with her rasping breath from the winter air. Bird-speak was always an interesting thing some Inarta could decipher. “Run little owl, run!" In her own mind, a maddened laughter echoed against her mental walls. If Strix had any sense of her brains right now, she’d hear it all.

OOCI am so sorry... This thread got bumped to the bottom of my list and I didn't even realize! Please respond soon, soooo sorry. :(

Owls and Eagles (Tiaue'a)

Postby Strix on June 2nd, 2012, 11:13 pm

Strix tumbled into the hallway and changed. A swirl of light consumed the owl and grew and in its place was a girl who may once have been beautiful. Her face was twisted by hardship and injury into a grimace that would have scared a person who wasn't winged, twice her size and blessed with talons that could have ripped her open. She whirled round, the familiar feeling of cold and weariness washing over her as she screamed "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!"

She remembered times like this before, attacked by larger animals desperate for food. A Wind Eagle, though? Aren't they fed? Aren't they watered? Don't they have all they can wish for and more while Strix starved in the cold tunnels of the Dek's quarters?

"What do you want?!" she shouted from just beyond the reach of the eagle again. "Petch off!" she shouted at it again, to gasps from the higher-class citizens around her. She didn't dare run away – after this display of disrespect, to turn her back on a Wind Eagle would be a death sentence.

Owls and Eagles (Tiaue'a)

Postby Tiaue'a on June 19th, 2012, 12:38 am

Ti`ue’s initial shock at the little owl kelvic’s screaming quickly was worn away by the bruising wind. Maybe she wasn’t worth it. The maimed look on the kelvic’s face provoked no sympathy for in the wind eagle. She saw it each day as the dek dragged their bare and dirty feet through the quarters of Wind Reach to tend to those who fed them. It worked. Even then, the lank bodies of the underfed helped sustain her body a few more hours from hunger. This wouldn’t be her first dek, either, in all honesty. No one misses a dek.

Put on the other side of the stone cage, Tiaue`a was ready to let this one go. It wasn’t worth the effort. Then the words rang clear in the frozen air.

It was a joke, no seriously, what? This insignificant owl who hopped into town from Gods know where not only had the nerve to insult a wind eagle who fed her, but order her? This dek dared order an eagle? She looked like a dek, from this angle, at least: crippled and desperate.

Those higher-class citizens, oh they knew what was coming for Strix. The wind eagles of the city were more than capable of comprehending the speech of the average Inartan. This insult reached into the roots of Wind Reach and the entire basis of its caste system. Strix wouldn’t get away from this without feeling at least the lash of a whip. To turn might have been a death sentence, but to curse the hand that fed her was an invitation to suffering.

Ti`ue cawed from her hover, this bird brain not being worth her telepathic efforts. The smaller birds that were near began to flee as she spoke so clearly to Strix, and the wind eagles looked over to make sure justice was served. Ti`ue wasn’t the only out looking out for an easy meal in the harsh winter times.

“Right now, I want your head, little kelvic mutt.” Ti`ue’s cursing was fueled by her frustration in not being able to snatch the kelvic for the insult, and motivated by self loathing. “How dare you curse me, you petching, crippled bastard. You come to my city, eat the food I provide, and curse me? I have not even touched you, and you cry like a babe too weak to wait for her next meal. What I had wanted matters no more, for I have found new purpose for you, little owl. You will not leave Wind Reach on foot, but rather become a deposit in the dirt after you pass through my gut. You will not outlast me in this cold. Make your move, I’ll be waiting.”

Ti`ue broke her hover and turned back into a dive. The adjacent rooftops were strong enough to hold her and the snowfall combined. She had a clear view of the little kelvic, and would be on her no matter which way she turned to run. The Colony’s eyes were upon them. Order must be upheld. This kelvic owl had earned the nature of her welcome. The hunt was on.

OOCNo eagles other than Ti`ue will interfere unless you specify. It’s just important to note the insult of the caste system, and how it will be followed up on. It’s clearly not a fair fight, and it’s going to be odd to bring to a close without Ti`ue eating Strix…but we’ll work on that. Phoenix or Sphinx are around to help too if we want to escalate his further. :) Right now, Ti`ue is on the hunt! xD
