Akvatari Questions

I have a list of questions here that, if answered, will help me understand my character a little better.

1) Possibly the most important question I have: what kind of range of emotions are Akvatari capable of? I know they are characterized by their deep and abiding sense of sadness, but does that exclude them from other emotions, like annoyance or the milder versions of happiness? Or are they capable of feeling these things, if only for brief periods?

2) This is more to help me figure out timelines, but how fast can Akvatari move? For swimming, I know it says they're fast, but is that dolphin-fast or seal-fast? And can they keep up those speeds for any significant length of time? For flying, what would they be comparable to? Are we talking song-bird speed? Duck speed? Average walking speed of a human? Faster? Slower?

3) This next question is just a feeler for what's possible in terms of storylines. How far underwater is Charbosi? The lore page says Akvatari can hold their breath for 6 hours. Could one get to Charbosi and back in that time?

I don't want to confuse you so I'm not going to try and answer these questions since I don't know too much about the Akvatari. Although if you ask Liminal, he can tell you all about them. He made the race.

I'm hardly an expert on the Akvatari either; as Cheshire has said, I think the only one who really qualifies for that is Liminal, their creator. However, I'm guessing that for question 1), the Akvatari are capable of the entire scale of emotion just like any other race, but that scale tends to be somewhat tipped in their case. While most races' normal state of being might be calmness or neutrality, the Akvatari's default state of being would be abiding melancholy. Their moments of happiness and joy might be briefer, and their fits of depression blacker and bleaker. Otherwise, it seems awfully limiting to disallow the entire race to experience certain emotions, especially as they tend to be artists and writers. This is just my guess, though.

For reference on playing Akvatari, I might recommend reading the posts of Trista, who was one of the most active Akvatari characters. They should provide insight on the Akvatari mindset and maybe could possibly help to give you an idea about their physical capabilities, at least a little.

For Charbosi, you probably want to ask Cayenne, the founder who created the Charoda and the Falyndar region, or Rage, who moderates there.

Hey there! It's always exciting to see someone interested in my babies ^_^

1) Akvatari can feel happy or irritated or anything else. You can think of the melancholia as a default, what they usually feel in the absence of any reason to feel anything else.

2) I think of an Akvatari in flight as roughly equivalent to something like a Canada goose in terms of speed, which would be 40mph more or less on a long trip, maybe up to 55 or 60 in short bursts if they were trying to get away from something. It would be hard for an Akvatari to fly more than seven or eight hours at a stretch, as it's taxing work, and they'd have to stop and eat and rest.

As for swimming, 10-15 mph maybe, for any extended period of time. That's about equivalent to an average seal.

3) I don't actually know. For that one, you'll have to check in with Cayenne.

It's fascinating to me how much water slows you down. The fastest swimming animal in the entire world, the sailfish, can't get it much over 65mph, while several species of bird can get it up around 100mph in flapping flight (and a peregrine falcon in a dive can hit 150).
