Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Postby Falix on January 22nd, 2012, 7:46 am

Winter 511 50th

It was the second day that Falix was returning to the clinic to learn more from her newest companion. She had stayed with Banir during the night and had returned in the morning to continue. Yesterday had been a lot of fun, what with the meriment she had made to entertain one of Oluse's patients. She thought back to the funand couldn't help but laugh. once again she spent her time dodging traffic and trying not to be stepped on. she thought to herself one of these days she should ride on Banir's shoulder rather than walking on her own. It could be dangerous and tricky, if she wasn't careful. she managed to get to the clinic unscathed which in itself was a triumph. she looked around trying to see if Oluse was in yet. Seeing that she had beat him here she decided to go hang out by the fire place once again. She had gotten some clay now and had been able to return to her normal form. She sat by the fire but out of the way off foot traffic so she wouldn't be stepped on.

Once again her mind went to the thoughts of the previous day and what would happen if she climbed into the fire. The thoughts buzzed around her in her head wouldn't leave her alone. She knew it was a bad idea and that she shouldn't do it, but if she didn't do something then the thoughts would keep at her for a long time until they simply died within her. she got up and walked closer to the fire. she could feel that the heat was taking some of the moisture off of her clay. She took a few steps back again and that was when she heard the doors open and a rush of wintery wind come inside. She turned her head to see that Oluse had finally made it to work. She smiled and got up from her place and made her way over to Oluse and smiled. "hey I've been waiting here for you, Im ready for the new lesson."

Oluse grinned. He was very glad to see his apprentice had returned for another lesson, and had returned to her normal form for it as well. "Yes, sorry to keep you waiting." He responded as he pulled his thick mittens off. "I didn't have to prepare the rooms today, or help with breakfast, so I slept in a bit before coming in. Hope you got here alright, and you haven't been waiting for long." He looked at her and the fire, then smiled. "Just keeping warm?" He walked closer as well and held out his hands toward the warmth.

"You know, Falix. If you want me to pick you up in the morning on my way to work I probably could. I imagine the snow could be a tad difficult to look over at times, let alone wade through. Where are you staying anyway?" He would laugh pretty hard if she were staying in the warrens as well, that would make it very easy to fetch her, and even have a lesson or two at home. Though, his memories of the last time somebody came into his room still haunted him slightly.

"Oh, and today I wanted to teach you about the kiss of life. We never did get to it yesterday. So hope you're ready to blow lots." He gave a little laugh, as he tied his mitten to the base of his heavy coat.

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Postby Luchiana on January 24th, 2012, 2:33 am

Unbeknownst to the Whitevine Healing Center at this moment, a young woman was walking towards the center. Her hand pressed fast against her side, and her heavy breathing causing a cloud of moisture to become visable escaping her mouth from the stark difference of the winter winds, and her warm body. She had a firey apperance about her, although part of it may have been the red dress that she wore under the black leather cloak. Her long golden blonde hair whipped about her as the wind blew harshly.

She reached up with her hand that wasn't pressed to her side and pulled the hood up trying to keep her long hair from tangling and knotting. She pulled the cloak tighter about her body trying to keep the cold air from sapping even more of her strength from her muscles.

The cloak hid her body so that whatever was wrong with her and causing her pain wasn't immediately visable. She still had a bit of a ways to go and was running out of strength fast. It was tempting to change from this human form to her much prefered beastial form, but she was well aware that her ailment had sapped away enough of her energy that she would not be able to transform. she saw that as she got closer to the city that it would be harder to remain hidden.

Her instincts told her to stay away from people or she might lose it, and so she tried to stay on the backroads and alleyways as much as she could. About halfway to the center she stood in an alley and rested her back against it trying to catch her breath. She let herself slide down onto the ground and pulled the cloak about her once again trying to reserve body heat.

She only intended to rest for a short time here in this dark alley, to try and gain her strength enough to continue on.

She looked up at him wen he came in and rested by the fire beside her to warm up undoubtably from the walk. She remained quiet for a minute letting her mind come back to reality, then nodded to him, answering the first parts of his question. "Well right now I'm staying with Banir, and it is a bit of a trecherous walk, why when I was walking here I was almost eaten by a cat and fell into a snow pocket!" She laughed heartily as she spun a bit of a tale at the end trying to make light of the situation. She smiled and turned towards him, feeling a bit of an odd sensation from where they clay had dried from the fire although it wasn't really noticable and would go away in a little while. "So what is this 'kiss of life' you keep mentioning?" The thought had been puzzling her ever since she heard him mention it. Did one kiss someone and somehow give them life? that didn't seem to be right, and what did that have to do with breathing? All these thoughts had been circling around in her head ever since they had parted ways the previous day. It wasn't much use to ask Banir about something like this, since she doubted he knew anything more about it than she did.

She stood up and walked over beside Oluse, curious as to what their lessons would hold for today, other than this 'kiss of life' buisness. She temporarily forgot about the fire while her mind worked to think about the things she had learned the previous day and also off to other places, her mind never staying in one place for too long. Often times she would think about several things at once and still manage to keep them seperate and not jumble the thoughts together, a skill she used to keep people from fighting amongst themselves.

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Postby Oluse on January 24th, 2012, 3:18 am

Oluse smiled at Falix, very glad she had been pondering his words from the day before. It left him convinced that she had indeed been listening. "As you remember from yesterday it is absolutely essential that humans breath. And the very first physical problem you check for is weather they are breathing or not. I felt it would only be right to teach you how to help remedy this problem as well as identify it.

There are many obstacles that could get in the way of a person's breath. Sometimes when you check you'll find that their lungs have simply given up on breathing. This could happen if they have nearly drown, or if they are under a large amount of shock either physically or mentally." He then stopped a moment as the list went on his head, but he decided to just skip to teaching her the remedy instead of dwelling on the causes. "When this happens the goal is to get them breathing again as soon as possible. To do that-" He paused again, realizing a slight anatomy background might be necessary for the little creature. "Well humans have lungs. Two. One here, and one here." He pointed with his fingers, then gave an indication of their shape and size with his hands. "This is where we breath into. A muscle runs across here." He touched his own diaphragm. "That draws breath in," His moved his hands to mimic the motion as he took a deep breath in, "And out." He showed the opposite motions as he exhaled his words. "So if we have stopped breathing it is one possibility that this muscle, the diaphragm had ceased. In that case our goal as healers is to get that muscle working again, no matter what. Humans sustain permanent damage and die extremely quickly if air stops cycling through them. Breath is life." He took a moment to pull his coat and shirt off, setting a heavy waterskin aside with with them. Standing there topless he gave another demonstration of the movements of the human chest.

"So, when you find your patient, you first put your ears to their mouth and listen carefully. If you don't hear or feel breath for a hand or two of ticks then they need help immediately. First, they may have an obstruction to their airway. Carefully lay them on their back, and then lift their chin like this," He laid down and demonstrated on himself, unabashedly right in front of the fire. "Then listen again, if breathing does not begin within another hand or two of tricks then it is likely their diaphragm has stopped. If there is anybody near by that can help you, recruit them to either go fetch more help, or to do the procedure for you while you tend to other medical issues.

In addition to your fingers here lifting the chin, you must pinch the nose like this," he pinched his nose between his trained fingers causing his voice to distort comically as he continued, "keeping the hilt of your hand up here on the forehead." He gives her a little smile, but persists, removing the pinch from his nose, and sitting up a little. "Then you take a normal breath. Or for you I suppose a large breath." He looked again doubtful of her size. "Then seal your lips to theirs, or have another person do it if you need, so no air can escape. And exhale into them. Their chest should raise slightly, but not their stomach. If it doesn't try re-raising their chin and pinching their nose, then repeat till it does. Administer two of these breaths. Both about a tick long with a tick in between, not too forceful." He paused giving her mind a short moment to process everything, then repeated a few key points and continued.

Once you've done this, press your hands like this right here." He then laced his fingers together awkwardly flaring his elbows out, palm against the back of the opposite hand, and pressed it to his chest directly anterior the inferior portion of the body of his sternum, directly superior his xiphoid process. "Not here," He demonstrated lower, "But definitely not up here." He demonstrated higher. "There is a very delicate bone that can break here." We went ahead and put his chest closer to his apprentice. "Go ahead and feel so you can get comfortable with where it is. Once she had he moved on.

"You'll want to spread out the pressure on their chest as much as possible with your hands to keep from breaking anything, but you will also want to make sure you don't spread out onto the flat of the ribcage here." He pointed up the wall of the ribcage. "Don't be ashamed to ask for help if your having even a little trouble. It's essential this is done quickly." He shifted around onto his knees, and redirected his hands straight down front of him, to show how he would do it. "Now this part will be the most physically exhausting. If you hear a snap or crunch do not stop. A broken rib bone is less threat than not breathing. You must do thirty compression. Thirty of them. Hard and fast. Make sure the compression is about this deep into the chest." He put several fingers together to show the depth, a frightening amount for a human, but likely less shocking for the Pycon.

He then squared his shoulder up, leaning forward, his ass rising up, causing a v between his upper and lower legs, making his arms run vertically upward from the ground before him. "Thirty times," He repeated, the words seeming to come from a secret place within him, one that did not think but simply acted. Like the words themselves were muscle memory. "Fast. Hard. Rate of one hundred times per minute. Two breaths." He then looked the Pycon in the eye, he wanted to imprint the words into her mind forever. "Thirty times. Fast. Hard. Rate of one hundred times per minute. Two breaths." He then gave a demonstration to the hard floor before him. He took it seriously, however, attracting some odd looks from a patient wandering by. His motions were measured out perfectly, and his focus cut in severely on his actions. The movements were those of a man that had administered this very action hundreds of times in the past. After the lightening fast thirty compressions he stopped shifted his weight and showed a fluid breath to the imaginary patient beneath him, then gave another thirty compression to the ground. "Two breaths." He looked at her looking relatively unphased by the exertion, save his eyes which seemed somehow more distant.

"Then you repeat the cycle till they breath." He gave out a short laugh as he finished the instruction, trying to shake himself from his own trance. He had more to say, but he stopped to listen to the Pycon's words before he continued.

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Postby Luchiana on January 24th, 2012, 3:57 am

when she felt that she had the strength to get up again, she stood using the wall to help her stand. There was a small pool of blood where she had been resting and blood was on the inside of her leather cloak having soaked through. She felt a sense of vertigo as she stood, her head spun and her vision blurred. She waited a few moments until the sensations had mostly passed but she knew that she had to finish her trip or she would die here in the cold. The animal pride within her small human frame wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.

With a slight growl she pushed herself away from the stone wall then covered up the blood on the snow with more snow to hide her trail before she began to move once again to the center. After a few minutes of dodging behing buildings and jumping from shadows, the center was within her sights. She could barely feel her limbs enough to carry her, they were cold and numb from the frosty air and with the blood loss it had caused the remaining blood to leave her extremities to try and keep the blood going to her vital organs. within what seemed like hours to her but was really only minutes, she finally made it inside of the clinic.

Opening the door had caused the blustery winter wind to momentarily disturb the inside of the rather large healing center. She was breathing heavier than she had been before and her face was pale, almost ghost white. she looked around as her slanted red eyes tried to register anyone who was there but her vision was so blurred that all she could see were large blurry blobs.

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Postby Falix on January 24th, 2012, 5:16 am

She watched as Oluse demonstraited the aspects of the 'kiss of life' to her. Now she understood what it meant and what it stood for. She almost laughed though when he was doing the demonstration especially after seeing some of the looks that they were getting but she didn't really mind it wasn't like it was a first for her, she was a pycon after all, but she managed to contain it. Joking and laughing aside she paid close attention to what he was doing and flied it away in her mind. she doubted that she would be able to do this by herself since she was so small, but it was useful knowledge and she would be able to pass it on to the others in the group if the need ever arose and have them to help. her mind began to drift again as she heard the door open. she turned and looked as the wind came in along with some falling snow. her eyes widened when she saw the woman that had just stepped in. The woman looked like she was on deaths door step, or at least close to it. She quicklygrabbed Oluse's jacket and shirt and held them up to him seeing the chill that rose along shis skin when the door had been opened.

she doubted he would pay them any attention but it was at least worth a shot, ater all she wans't sure how comfortable that the woman would be to the half naked human, not to mention that it had to be really cold for him like that and she didn't want him to get sick. She looked back at the wounded woman as she looked about ready to collapse, but she could tell by looking at her eyes what she was. "Oluse! thats a Kelvic woman! look at the eyes, she must be some kind of feline kelvic and she looks really badly hurt!"

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

When the door swung open Oluse's first instinct was in fact to robe himself. However, upon hearing Falix's words, and making his own observations he grabbed for only the oddly cut waterskin, and slung it across his chest as his mind switched gears. "Kelvic." He said in agreement, just under his breath, as he rose quickly to his feet, transcending the distance between him and his new patient, leaving Falix to follow of her own accord.

"Ma'am, my name is Oluse and I'm a doctor. I am going to do what I can to help." He wasn't sure how conscious she was, and he was careful to speak in common encase she didn't know Vantha. He even took special care to weed out as much of his Denval accent as possible. "Please, tell me what happened." He held his arms out to grab her, but hesitated, waiting a moment to see if she would consent. "Let me help you into the other room."

His eyes began to scan over her carefully, checking for any signs he could find to indicate her vital health. He could see blood, and tried to figure out where and how bad the origin wound was. He was careful not to look this one directly in the eye, and instead listened to her breathing, and checked for any part of her body she might be favoring in pain.

oocWould you mind being VERY explicit about what state she is in when you reply please? Helps me right better if I know what is going on. Also, he will help her into an emergency room only a few paces to the right of the entrance if she lets him. He'll leave the door open so Falix can enter.

Time to get down to work (Oluse, Lucifel)

Her ears perked up when she ehard someone talking to her. The words that the blob in front of her spoke took a few minutes to travel from her ears to her brain and back again to register what he was saying. Finally she looked at him her eyes half lidded and her breathing heavy almost panting. her hair was stained red with her blood at the bottom and along the right side from at about where her ribs were. She growled slightly at the man her instincts taking over somewhat but then the human part of her reminded her that she had come here for help. She took a slightly deeper breath but it made her cringe, then once she realized that the man was trying to help hold her up she gave him a small nod indicating he may do so. The black leather cloak still covered her and hid the wound at her side but it was easy to tell by her arm peeking out from under the robe that she was holding her side.

She let the man lead her into one of the rooms trying to stay conscious. Once inside she risked moving her hand from her side. Her pale slender hand was coated bright crimson red by her blood as she reached up with the bloodied hand to unclasp the cloak that still shrouded her body. when the cloak fell free it because very obvious how she was injured. Along her right side there were three large and jagged wounds, appearing to have been from the claws of some other animal. Her entire side below that and part of her stomach was covered in blood. she moved her hand back against her side as another bout of vertigo hit her and she had to put her hand on the table to keep from falling over.

She wasn't at all suprised when Oluse ran off. She had known it would come once she had staed that the woman was hurt. she debated for a moment then grabbed his clothes and followed him silently. Carrying the clothes was cumbersome but managable as long as she didn't trip. She looked around and watched as they walked into one of the private rooms and followed inside before the door closed behind her. she set the clothes down in a pile then grabbed his shirt, looking for a way to climb up, she spotted a similar garbage jar she had fallen in before and used that to jump onto the desk then from there she jumped onto his shoulder and laid the shirt there for him to slip on before jumping back down again. She moved out of the way, and jumped onto an empty ledge to observe what was happening, not to mention staying out of the Kelvics way. she had met a few in her life time and knew that if they were wounded even in their human form that they were more animal than human and wouldn't hesitate to bite the hand that was trying to help them.

she hoped that wouldn't be the case here but who knows? The woman looked feral, but she also looked very strong, meaning that she wasn't someone that you wanted to be careless with if you wanted to keep your body parts how they were made. she saw that the woman was very weak though, and likely didn't have much fight in her. However she also knew that even when an animal is weak it will still lunge if it feels cornered. She nodded down to Oluse trying to warn him to be careful. She bit her lip then looked back at the Kelvic woman and hoped that sh would be okay.
