Character Concept
Thalj comes off as a man that is aloof when in his human form unless he knows he can trust you. While he once was more trusting and friendly since the death of his Master and his imprisonment with the Circus he had escaped from, he has taken on the attitude that he must not get too close to people that might try to enslave him or worse, want to skin or stuff him. Deep down though Thalj is nothing but a big pussy cat, loyal, loving and very affectionate especially if you give him lots of belly rubs while he’s in his animal form.
That’s one thing that can quickly make the Kelvic like you, is a good belly rub, a scratch behind the ears, or a large piece of raw meat (usually this is while he’s in his lion form.. but it can happen in his human form as well). Thalj also has a driving need to find another master/companion since the loss of his first one, given he is a lion with a pride mentality it’s not a wonder he has this feeling of being lost when alone. He often becomes depressed or melancholy when alone or by himself for too long. He also finds pleasure in simple things, again his belly rubs, ear scratches, a big piece of meat, but also being able to cook, garden or please his companion/Master especially with his skill in massages.
Basically Thalj is a man that has a heart of gold he now seeks to guard for his own safety, is fiercely loyal to the one he views as his true master/companion and maybe even bond mate though he has yet to do this. He would gladly give his life for his new Master since he secretly feels he failed the last one. Thalj also feels a bit insecure about his human features and this is why unless he needs to do work in the form (cook, clean, garden, massage) he would rather be in his lion form, however since being a prisoner in a cage of a circus, he now sticks to his human form. He also loves finer things, clothing, bed sheets etc… and this was due to his last Master being a nobleman that kept rather rich exotic things in his home in Ahnatep, where Thalj was actually born and thus raised.
Character History
Thalj was the second cub born to his parents in the Spring of 507 AV, however unlike his sister Thalj was not the golden tawny brown as she was. Sadly Thalj’s sister became sick a few months after their birth and passed away as the slavers did not take care of her as they should have. However due to Thalj’s unique coloring he was tended to and given great care as was his mother who was of course nursing and tending to her now only offspring. Thalj’s parents were both kelvics owned by a breeder that often sold his ‘pets’ to the local arenas as pit fighters or even to wealthy folks. Thalj was one of those lucky Kelvics that went to a private wealthy owner, a man who lived in Ahnatep and was the owner of a trading company there.
The male’s childhood was spent in the lap of luxury and tender care by his Master Jlaht who at the time of purchasing Thalj decided to name him Keyena, why it is unsure but the name was one that Thalj carried with pride as he would rump around in the courtyard of the wealthy merchant trader. Life seemed to go by too fast for the young cub and before long he was old enough to learn special skills for the tending of his Master’s home and needs. Sadly the fates and time are not always kind, and soon darkness rolled in on the ‘magical’ life that Thalj had known since he was whined from his mother’s milk.
For you see there were people jealous of his master’s wealth, especially when they learned that he owned a Kelvic and not just any Kelvic but that of a white lion. Seeking to rid the man of his prized possessions and golden Mizas, one of Jlaht’s co-workers hired some assassins to pose as bandits that were to rob the man’s home, killing him during a struggle and leaving him dead. However the assassins upon learning about the white lion opted to steal him from the traitor, killing him after having killed Jlaht and robbing his home, only they made the traitor’s death look like a murder at the hands of the Kelvic’s animal form. After all once it was learned of Thalj’s master’s death at the hands of his business partner who would deny that the wild beast went mad with revenge and sought out revenge? Thus without realizing it Thalj was framed for the death of a man.
The Assassins took Thalj with them and yet were soon forced to sell the young man who was now choosing to stay in his animal form all the time, only becoming lazy and melancholy… but was also being hunted down by those that were family and true friends to Jlaht. So not wanting a mark on them due to the lion they now were leading around in a cage on a cart, the evil men soon found a buyer for the unique creature. A lion tamer with a traveling circus that sought out the right to own such a majestic and rare beast. So once again the leash to Thalj’s collar was passed on to another, and thus his mood darkened and his loneliness grew.
In his new home, Thalj who in his mind renamed himself in honor of his fallen Master, the white lion was taught how to perform for the public that came to see the circus when it was in their town. And oh sure he performed as he didn’t like the way the man treated him if he didn’t (starving him of food and water) but after the show was over and he was placed back in his cage, Thalj would long and thus dream of the day he would be free of his multi-colored bars and free to search for a Master of his own choosing.
Soon Thalj was lucky for when the circus stopped in the domain of Zeltiva, a young girl who appeared to be no older then nineteen approached his cage, and wanting the beast for herself managed to pick the lock upon his cage, however seeing this as the moment he had been dreaming of, Thalj jumped over her head and ran off in the direction of Sunberth (though he didn’t realize it was the direction of Sunberth as he had never learned to read a map) This act left the young woman scared and screaming that she had been attacked by the circus’s lion. So once again Thalj was most likely being hunted for a ‘crime’ he did not commit.
All the Kevlic focused on at that moment was running away, he later ran into a traveling farmer and his warrior of a son that felt bad for the young man (for Thalj had shapeshifted into his human form.) who had told him that he had not only been attacked by bandits in the forest but also robbed of his clothing and mizas. The two men gave Thalj some money and clothing they had extra off and then pointed him toward Sunberth, advising him to be more careful in his journeys… and that is where we find out White Lion of Mizahar… traveling outside the walls of Sunberth. |
