„Perhaps“, Veldrys agreed. „You are welcome to return any time you want. I spent most of my evenings here.“ He inclined his head, about to bid the other man farewell as something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. He turned around to face Laszlo abruptly again. His amethyst eyes widened a fraction, and his mouth stood open for a moment as he noticed that the man’s skin had started glowing. Had what he had said been true after all? Was he not a Symenestra? Was he a ghost? Some strange, supernatural being that had descended from the Ukalas?
The light that surrounded Laszlo became brighter, so bright that it hurt Veldrys‘ eyes. He had to avert his gaze for a moment. As he finally dared to look at him again, he was not facing a Symenestra anymore. He had never seen a being such as this one. The man that stood before him was more beautiful than any Symenestra, than any mortal being would ever be, with horns that seemed to be made of pure ivory.
As Laszlo spoke, Veldrys didn’t reply immediately. He didn’t trust himself to be able to speak coherently. The surprise was too big. After what seemed like an eternity, the Symenestra nodded. „I will show you the way back“, he said, and then he added, „Ethaefal.“ It was a mere guess for he had never seen one of the fallen ones – only heard about them, but never any details. But a man that could change into somebody else in an instant and possessed such otherworldly beauty could only come from the gods in his opinion.
