The Cobalt Range was quite a sight, Kane had to admit, his eyes having already caressed the range for quite a while, at least while he wasn't too busy avoiding the gaze of whatever was near. Already he'd come much too close for his own comfort with several things he really couldn't identify, though his skills from the back alleys and shifty days of living off of others' fortunes in Sunberth proving to be practical to him, even in his much more civilized lifestyle. The nearest encounter that'd forced his hair upon its ends being as he refilled his bota in a small stream, though it probably would've yielded little danger, as two wolves came to take their fill of the water, the heat of the day likely having gotten to them under their coats. Kneeling almost transfixed by the sight, Kane's bota was left to overflow as his right hand idly clasped it in the cool water whilst his left quickly grasped the hilt of his longsword. Making not a sound as the two went about their business, Kane couldn't help but think of the several nights he was pursued after his exodus from Sunberth by the beasts, his breathing was the only thing that increased in audible tempo, and it was still hushed, his attention centered primarily on the pair. Soon enough they'd departed, going back to whatever other business such creatures might have, whether they noticed him or not was a matter Kane could care less about as he opted to vacate the area post haste, returning to the body which the stream contributed to.
For the most part, Kane got what he was expecting out of the small excursion into the wilderness, excitement and a great deal of beauty, though he had to admit he preferred the city life. The day had already begun to wane, though there were still a few hours of daylight left to return to the city before darkness fell, and so perhaps he would rest for a bit. He'd already packed a small deal of provisions for the journey, about two days rations, and finding a suitable enough spot he prepared to take a brief respite, finding a nice enough break in the woods to settle down for a while... at least it seemed nice enough until his eyes came to rest on the great mound of flesh that seemed to sit opposite of Kane in the clearing, quite content upon a stump. The beast seemed that if it should stand it would loom over Kane, and the creature itself seemed to be an ape, though Kane had never before encountered such a being, he exercised the caution necessary to survival in the wilderness and drew his blade, not knowing just what to expect. Though it could be assumed the being was intelligent, as it had both a spear and a weapon at its disposal, just because something was intelligent didn't mean that it might not kill you, and so Kane tested the waters with a brief question, and a simple one at that, "Who are you?"
