[Flashback] Exciting Work (Solo)

511 Summer, 83

Oluse bounced around the clinic excitedly working away at any stray jobs that had yet to be done. He felt free at last, a long several month last, absolutely bubbling with energy and pride. His superiors had finally given him the clear to work on his own, without any supervision. This had been a huge vote of confidence for the boy, nearly unheard of at his age, and he couldn't wait to get to a one on one practice with patients without having a senior member of the crew doing all of the difficult tasks for him. Little did he know there would be more than one moment within his next session he would really wish that another person were there to answer question for him.

The door opened and Oluse hurried toward the front with an excited smile. Before bothering to look at the man he lended a wide grin and recited his greeting. "Hello there, Sir! Welcome to the Whitevine Clinic! My name is Oluse Fortis-Saro and I'll be administering for you today! Please make yourself comfortable and tell me what what you need fixed. We can go into a more private room if you'd like." He paused a moment, look up at the corner of the room a moment as he thought to himself, then quickly continued. "Oh yeah, and don't fret. I may be young but I am an experienced physician who has had both theoretical and practical training. So please feel at ease in my care."

The man was Vantha, standing at only a few inches taller than Oluse himself. Handsome enough, and in his late twenties. He gave only a blank expression at the exuberant ranting child before him as first, then gave a slow and deliberate nod. "Right." He spoke in a deep and calm voice, as if he were trying to encourage Oluse to use his inside voice. "I guess I would like to talk in private." He said quietly.

Oluse nodded eagerly and lead him off. "Of course, Sir. Please head this way. What was your name again?" As they walked he thought to look the man over. He wasn't spouting blood as far as Oluse could see, and he wasn't favoring either foot. He looked at the man's face, and though seeming a bit drowsy he didn't seem overtly sick.

"Kiorit." The Vantha answered informally, and follow Oluse into the room, closing the door behind him, and taking a seat without prompting.

"Ok, Kirorit. Why don't you tell me what's been bothering you?" Oluse asked with a pleasant smile as he sat in the chair opposite Kiorit.

Kiorit opened his mouth as if to speak, but then when no sound came out he closed it, apparently thinking a moment about his choice of words. Finally he said, "You know. How old are you exactly?"

Oluse laughed at the question, still lighthearted, "Oh I'm fourteen. Don't mind, I'm a trained professional, and I take my work very seriously. Please, feel comfortable telling me what's on your mind."

Kiorit's brow creased noticeably with doubt, and reluctance but eventually spoke. "Well you see." He began as he shifted a bit uncomfortably in his seat, and avoided eye contact. Oluse was undeterred, smiling a bit more at this discomfort. "Well you see, I've been having some troubles. In bed. Not always, but well. A lot. I can't really." He finally looked up at Oluse to gauge when he had said enough to stop. "Can't always keep myself... aroused."

Oluse's eyes widened at the man's words, and his smile began to diminish from his face. He caught himself before the smile had gone completely, fixing it awkwardly to his face he processed the man's words.

Finally after a moment, that seemed more an eternity, Oluse nodded as deliberately as Kiorit had when he had arrived. "Ok." He spoke with a drawn out tone, still grasping for what to say exactly. "I do know of some natural remedies that may be heal your um..." He avoided eye contact with the man as he spoke, and stood to talk to the cabinet of elixirs and spices. "Condition?"

Still facing away from the man, relaxing slightly in the distance put between them he finally began to think. He was from Denval, and though Denval men didn't often, actually Denval men never came forward with problems like that, he knew of a few 'remedies' that were more geared toward enhancing sexual productivity that may work to initiate it as well. "Denvali Cavier should help." His eyes drifted up as he spoke. "Yes, as I recall that is often used in courting, and is traditional on the wedding night of Denvali men and women. Oh, and so is Oyster which is local here." He smiled. He was solving a puzzle now, and he enjoyed solving puzzles. The thought of exactly what his goal was began to slip from his mind. He could honestly say it was the first time he had ever tried to assist a man in... hardening his... sexual resolve...

He turned with an awkward smile tugging at the corner of his lips, as he tried to ease his patient's mind. "There are lots of solutions we can try from here as well. I can mix up a season remedy that you can use in your food to get both you and your women... um, ready?" A blush started across his pale face. He wasn't usually very shy about the subject, but he was certainly shy about it's dysfunction. He had never given the idea of sexual dysfunction any thought in his life before that moment, and then all of a sudden he was meant to trudge up all of his knowledge of the subject he had picked up in offhanded conversations throughout his days to serve a man he barely knew. He felt more than a little awkward, and very put on the spot.

Kiorit smiled. He seemed very relieved there was some "solution" to his problem that Oluse could concoct for him. "Oh thank you, young boy, that would be great." Oluse's eyebrow twitched slightly at the prospect of being called a young boy, when it was his patient's manhood which was in question.

After breaking away from the awkward conversation Oluse quickly exited the room, face a flush. He went to the kitchen and face a distant smile to the cooks there. "Hey, mind if I use some spices?" He asked meekly.

"Feeling a bit peckish there, boy?"

Oluse gave a troubled smile and responded, "Something like that." The sentence trailing off into ambiguity, as he went to the space cabinet. He pulled out chili first, then the curry. All of the spices were held in several gallon mini drums, whith a huge store room of them all in the back which was refreshed twice a year. The Whitevine Clinic kitchen was a dream come true for any chef, and Oluse was no different. It wasn't rare for him to help the chefs cook in his down time.

He grabbed a small empty porcelain pot which he began to fill with the spices after grinding them. He adorned the mixture of chili and curry with ginger and some cinnamon, then mixed it all, securing the lid on top and heading back to the room. He hesitated before the door, looking at it a moment, then finally opened it and walked back in after a few ticks.

Kiorit was still sitting there, fussing with vials in the corner. He quickly moved back to his place when Oluse came back in. "Ok, Kiorit here is a spicy mixture for you, though... help." He set the small pot down on the table before the Vantha and looked at him a moment before continuing. "If this doesn't get the... desired result. There are some more expensive alternatives to this seasoning. There are some imported spices that could also help..." His brow creased as he thought again about what he was saying.

Kiorit scooted forward slightly in his chair and said up to the boy, "Oh, just give me those now. I've been working so much lately trying to avoid going home that we have extra money anyway." Oluse's eyes went as wide as they could at this statement. He wanted to tell the man that was too personal, and that is was off topic. But to his horror, it wasn't.

[Flackback] Exciting Work (Solo)

Oluse just blatantly shook his head, and said, "Very well. I'll be right back with a supplement in a bit." He then quickly exited the room, and on the way to the herbal store rooms he rubbed his eyes instantly regretting it as the spices soaked in. His eyes watered horribly, and his right eye turned blood shot pink. Taking a minute to wash his hands and his face he gave an embarrassed sigh as he his heart rate rose slightly, and his temperature follow in suit. Both soon to be followed by something else. "I hate this job." Oluse said out loud to himself, and went back to the storeroom to mix his supplement in privacy.

Lepidium meyenii, Eurycoma longifolia, and the main ingredient of Pausinystalia yohimbe went into his wonder drug extraction. It took some time to prepare it all to a safe mixture that would not explode his patient's heart, and when he was done he swirled the well mixed infusion in front of his face, right in front of the fire. The time he had to take had paid off. "Well, I did a good job." He said quietly to himself, shaking his head again. He found it hard to me proud of that achievement. He trudged back to the man in his defeat, and handed him the large vial, and instructed him on when to take it and the possible side effect. The last on his lists of possible side effects was a baby, and the man seemed to take it as a joke. Oluse had been completely serious, however. The drugs he had supplied the man with were almost all identical to those that he would prescribe a man in a couple that were trying to have children.

Oluse silently prayed they would have a girl that would take after the mother more than father, and sent the man on his way with a rather hefty bill, which took Oluse several minutes to count up all of the expenses on, including one vial the man had clumsily broke while waiting.

Oluse, however, got much better at writing that bill for services rendered, and concocting those "remedies" for the "dysfunction" as he noticed a steady increase in the men who came into the clinic over the next seasons claiming the same dysfunction, and requesting Oluse's assistance rather than the Whitevine attendants. Oluse's faith in humanity had diminished some, but in time he learned to take the job with some humour. Though he did feel more like an acolyte of Nikali than a physician more often than not.

Haha, what an amusing thread. This was more about Oluse's medical morals than his actual medical skill, so your award reflects that. Rhetoric for explaining his credentials.
