It was a late, crisp evening. The wind was whipping around dreadfully, and a fresh storm was brewing. Krivak was once again peering through a fence at the herd of musk ox. He longed to make his own herd one day. He'd been watching them for a long time, watching the failings of the herd's bull. He was a terrible bull, allowing the people to take better care of his cows then himself. When a storm like this whipped up, the calves should be in the center of the group, while the cows and young bulls form a tight ring around them. Meanwhile the bull should be outside watching and protecting over his charges. But they were just wandering around aimlessly, none of them watching over each other. Krivak shook his large head in disappointment, a terrible bull.
Krivak was about to head back to his own stable when the wind whipped open the gate to the musk ox yard. One of the females wandered through the opening mooing in her own curiosity. Krivak grunted in disapproval when he saw that the bull paid her no mind and she continued out toward the gates. Krivak went over to the gate and nudged it with his head, until it closed. He turned to look for the female and saw her way off in the distance, the storm obscuring a good bit of his vision.
He bellowed and trotted after her. As she neared the gate, one of the Icewatch bears uptop roared and startled her. And she bolted out of the gates and into the wilderness. Krivak bellowed in frustration and charged out after her. He couldn't let one like himself die alone. |

OOCSorry for such a late reply, blame school. A storm was developing. It was time for Avanthal to be dark but the snow made the air bright. Snow was so reflective of light to begin with, adding the whiteness of the sky and the snow in the air to the snow on the ground made it almost unbearable. The cold wind only made things worse. Okay, maybe the wind was the unbearable one. A certain Vantha girl sat, her back against the Icewall and her head buried against her knees. It wasn't the cold that got to her, it was the wind. She was near the gates. Sadly, the white snow was beginning to completely blind her vision as the storm picked up. Sera got to her feet, but had to hold onto the wall for support, as the wind was trying to knock her down, or pick her up. But it was always one of the two. So she just stood there, against the icy rock, trying to see where to go.
She had planned to just go on a walk. Well... okay, that was a while before the winds actually picked up. The poor girl had walked all the way across the city. Why? Cause it was just one of those days. She wasn't expecting a storm, let alone the winds that would accompany it. After squinting her eyes, trying to find a reference point, she saw something move, something large run past the gates. Then another. The Vantha's eyes burned a harsh violet. Worry flew past her eyes, and her lips. Her mouth opened as if to yell out, but she stopped herself.
Why would anyone go out of the City in weather like this? What was wrong?
The girl assumed the large animals were horses and that someone was riding them, or rather two people... Unless... UNLESS the stables had a problem. What if they got out, afraid of the storm? Frightened by the wind? Flustered, Sera tried to run after them, the wind fighting her.
Then she stopped, watching the dark movement from afar. They had to be having troubles as well. The girl closed her eyes and said a small prayer, "Please Morwen, protect us." She knew that it was dangerous past the Icewall and she knew that she could get in trouble if she wasn't careful. But she also knew, if she didn't try to do something, she'd regret it for the rest of her life in Avanthal. So, she ran forward, against the wind and towards the large beasts. |

Krivak hadn't even noticed the Vantha female that had taken off after him. He kept his eyes on the musk ox's backside, so as to not lose her. The storm was bad and only growing worse. Krivak bellowed into the storm to try and get her attention, but to no success. He had to get her to stop, before she got too far into the storm to turn back. The female began to take a meandering path, twisting and curving. She was more adapted to the snow than Krivak, so he was never fully able to catch up to her. But he continued pushing forward, his muscles surging him forward, his breath taking in deep lungfuls of the frigid air.
Krivak tuckered out quickly, as did the cow. Soon they were both walking, tired, but continuing onward. Krivak hadn't yet realized that their paths were taking them along a slight uphill slant. The path was taking them up a long, gradual hill. Krivak didn't notice the climb, nor the fact that the sides of the slop were beginning to disappear. It was a very large and rocky hill, but the snow had made it go even more unnoticed. Krivak continued to bellow into the storm, beginning to get annoyed and frustrated at the cow.
Then she stopped.
Unbeknownst to Krivak, they were so high up that a fall would easily kill them. The cow began mooing in distress and laid down in exhaustion. Krivak made his way over to her, and she looked up at him with tired eyes. She mooed thanks in the similar language of her species. Krivak went over to her and laid down, his body right next to hers. They would try to weather this storm together. Krivak kept his ears sharp and his eyes open, staying watchful should any predator approach. A bull needed to protect those in his charge, and he could tell that she'd never been kept by a bull properly. If he saw anyone or anything approach, he would try to scare it off, and if that failed, defend the herd. |
