Eridanus - I'll check it through it properly tomorrow when I'm more awake, but my first thought is - awesome. Thank you so much dude.

Bob - Keep an eye on the Seasonal Quest. Those whispers and rumours are going to start quite soon...

Eridanus - I think the locations are elaborate enough, and I absolutely love the underground complex idea. It will be very useful for future. With your permission, I'll format these up and post them shortly. They're great, so thank you :)

Any activity with Eri will be rather slow as well, but I am slowly readjusting back to "Mizahar life", so to speak, so do PM me if we have a thread that I left hanging and we'll talk.

Well I'm sure a few people will agree with me when I say we need a Thieves Guild in Zeltiva. We have several thieves (aspiring and talented) who would really enjoy working in something like this. Plus I'm not certain any other city have a Theives Guild, which would be something unique.

And another thing that has been overlooked is the Mortanis, the assassin cult of Krysus. I'm believe you'd be the first person to actively use them if you incorporated them into Zeltiva. Something unique that a few people might take advantage of. I mean, you have to pay for college somehow, and this would be a unique way to do so.

Also, if you need any help writing up on your current NPCs or places, let me know. I'm sure I can handle some of it.

I would like to also suggest putting a general guideline for the salary of teaching staff. In order to standardize things (since the teacher's salary in the price-list is variable and therefore uncertain) there should be some sort of pay-grade. Here are some factors to take note of:

(Please note that for all examples used below, there is the assumption of ceteris paribus, ie. all else being equal).

1) Skill in Teaching: Main job XP, therefore the XP to be received for Seasonal XP, and the XP that determines the 1/1.5/3/6 multiplier for Seasonal Wages.

2) Skill in subject taught: As a teacher is limited by his skill level in the subject being taught, it naturally goes that a Mathematics teacher with Master in mathematics is worth more than a Mathematics teacher with Competent in mathematics. This should be a factor when deciding base pay. Either as a bonus +% to the base pay when all factors has been calculated, or as a variable range, like 1-5gm/d for Competent, 6-10 for Expert, 11-15 for Master, for example.

3) Demand/Supply: This will be the hardest to standardize and would probably be completely up to Paragon's judgement. A reasonable assumption would be that magical skills in general will have a lower supply than practical skills and therefore should have a higher base pay. Since Zeltiva is a port town with shipping and trading as its main source of income, it should be reasonable to assume that among the practical skills, skills such as Sailing, Shipbuilding, Negotiation/Business/Mercantilism,etc. would be in higher demand and should pay more (in terms of teaching these skills).

4) Rank/Vocation/Role: a normal teaching aide would get a lower base pay. A normal teacher will get more, a professor would get even more. Of course, at the same time one's responsibilities and role would get heavier and weightier. In order to qualify for rank-ups (ie. promotion) there should be a criteria of sorts. Here are some examples of factors to be considered:

a) Total time worked for ZU (need to prove loyalty to continue working at ZU)
b) Skill in Teaching (can't expect a novice teacher to be a prof, right??)
c) Skill in subject taught (how to do research/advisory without knowing the skill well??)
d) Performance in Advancement Quest

(Advancement Quest is a modded thread that range from a simple interview, to a test, to research, it can be anything honestly. The difficulty and complexity depends on the rank of the applicant. Applying to rank-up from the lowest position should of course have an easier AQ than applying to, say, be the Vice-Dean.)

What do you think, Paragon?

Idue: Great idea! Watch this space - since Avari's modded thread is going to lead to a thieves guild of sorts coming out of the woodwork.

Eridanus: The idea's great, but I'm alone in Zeltiva. We need to make things as simple as possible, especially streamlining administration. Teaching will essentially work at the lowest pay, and then players can increase their wages through advancement threads with me. I don't want it to be any more complicated than that, simply for selfish reasons, because I don't want to have to keep track of lots of calculations.

[Domain Development] Let's Build Zeltiva Together

Postby Faylon Kwanda on February 3rd, 2012, 9:12 pm

There are two other locations I was thinking about today, one of which I believe was mentioned a few months ago, that might also fit into Zeltiva.

The first is a secondary school where more martial skills are taught like swordplay and unarmed combat. Obviously not as popular as the University but likely with a steady base of students as well.

The other location I was thinking of is a Naval Academy. Zeltiva is essentially the naval power of Mizahar so it stands to reason that they would have one of these. I'm not sure but it may have been mentioned in the lore somewhere as well. Something to consider anyways.

Also, I know Zeltiva has a standing army which is quite small, probably only a few hundred men that act as a police force for the city even, but would they have a headquarters as well? Maybe a barracks or at least a command that they can organize duties from. This could even go hand in hand with the secondary school mentioned above.

Hi Fayon,

We already have a Naval Academy - the College of Navigation. I promise I'll develop that as an official location soon.

I love the martial school idea, perhaps it could be more of a Dojo than a school? Would that work for you?

A barracks is also a great idea - I'm sure we can develop that in the near future.

Thanks,
Paragon
