Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The Kulkukan Tavern and Inn. He had never visited here but he knew he could find a stiff drink and possibly some company. It was nice to take a break from the chaos of the Sanctuary, and from his own mind. He had been going in circles ever since handing over that konti as a Nakivak to Riverfall. The thought of that nearly churned over his stomach. How could he tell someone they were free, that they were taken from slavery…only to be delivered back into it again. A sad truth of what was going on around here. He despised these practices, they weren’t right. But then again he knew none of these men had ever been on the other side. None of them knew what it was like…to have absolutely everything stripped from you. Then in a slight ray of hope be told that it was all a lie. He needed a stiff drink, and he hoped he could find it here.

He walked in, clad in his long white fur cloak heavy around his tall frame. The outside of the fur cloak was clad in small frost pearls from the waterfall. The weather was freezing and the mist from the riverfall basin was forming a chilling mist that coated everything. He entered the lower half of the building and nodded at it’s red and ruby theme. It was interesting and he had never seen anything like it anywhere else in Riverfall. But he hoped this was the right place. By the gods he hoped it was the right place for him to maybe drink away some of his minds thoughts. His mind blared at him and the only thing he could do was simply walk over to the bar and make a simple request to the woman behind it.

“Something stiff…I have many troubles.” The woman looked at him puzzled and then questioned him.

“Oh do you? Would you mind sharing some of these troubles?” She asked as she poured him a stiff drink and slid it to him across the table. It seemed she was taking an interest in him, or at least the story he could tell her about his troubles.

“I don’t usually share my troubles with strangers, even very attractive strangers.” He said as he brought the drink to his hand.

“Well let me introduce myself I am Chelltaire the lead bartender here. And who might you be?”

“I am Serrif, healer from the White Isle.” He said as he then took a strong sip of the fine whiskey she had poured him. It was an Akalak whiskey and a little stronger than he was used to. But nevertheless it was good. And settled his mind some with it’s intense sting.

“Well Serrif, what brings one from the White Isle to Riverfall?”

“Healing those that need it, and a charge from the Opal Order.” He could feel the whiskey burn down his throat and numb all the way down.

“Ah a healer, not rare here. But a human healer of your type is rare.”

“Believe me I know that…It is constantly on my mind. I am starting to wonder why I am here in the first place.”

“Sometimes our purposes are cloaked, only to be revealed later.”

“I would love to believe that.” He confessed as he took another healthy drink and closed his eyes sighing. He wasn’t going to openly admit anything to this woman. No, she was with them. And he didn’t like them very much right now.

So he had her fill him another mug and he walked over to a table and took a seat so he could be alone…but the whiskey must have been getting to him because he didn’t notice that the table he sat at had another man at it. But this only grabbed his attention more. “You and I need to stick together, we get no respect here…nothing”

Maybe it was the whiskey talking or maybe he was talking the truth. So he merely took another drink of his mug and set it on the table aside his other full mug. It seemed he didn’t know what his body could take and his lips were loosening some and his body was numbing as well. It was a good feeling, something he had needed to feel in a very long time. He shook his head and introduced himself.

“Serrif is my name. What is yours stranger?”

She was wearing thick colorful wool that she had woven herself a year or so Ago. The better to keep her warm. Her clothes were covered in intricate knotwork patterns and she wore a solid blue hood.

The tavern was loud and she had been lost in her own thoughts when the man arrived. She hadn't noticed the man had sat next to her until he spoke. She was startled out of her wine induced daze. She was opposed to excessive drinking but she had never tasted wine so sweet. She was accustomed to whisky back home. She shook off her daze to see who was talking to her.

It didn't bother her that this stranger had decided to join her in her private little corner. It certainly wasn't who she had expected to sit down beside her though. She had been expecting Solicah, her second cousin, to sit there. He would have to pull up a chair when he finally arrived. It had been a long day, and she had promised to meet Solicah here to relax a bit.

What was taking him so long anyhow? Oh well. Until then, she would enjoy the company of this stranger for a bit.

"Excuse me? Oh. I am Wyndivere of the Moondirge pavilion I..." She opened her mouth to continue her explanation of her identity. But thought perhaps that this man would have no idea what she was talking about. So instead, she closed her mouth, smiled and said. "Good to meet you. How are you fairing?" She then realized that her hood was still up, and pulled it down, revealing her long hair and her definitely female features.

Desmus had just arrived in the city of Riverfall. It was strange and different from his home amog the rolling fields in the Sea of Grass. Desmus had waited at the gates for the companions he had lost on his way to Riverfall, and he feared the worst for them, mostly for the young girl that traveled with them.

He didnt know where to go or what to do since the Riverfall native, one of the ones he lost, was gone now but he caught a hint of a familiar smell. The stout stence of whiskey and wine filled his nostrills. It had been years since he partook of the drink,he had no reason to, but now he thought was the perfect time.

He walked into the bar and walked to the counter. There he saw a man and a Drykas girl. he grabbed the drink he ordered and began to gulp it down watching the two out if the corner of his eye. He wished to talk to the Drykas girl, it had been years since he spoke to another of his kind, but he didnt want to be rude so he bit his tounge and would wait for an opurtune moment to speak.

Another Dryka? This one was very young indeed. Yes, he believed she was young enough to be his daughter….That spark of imagination brought dread across his face. There were many things he didn’t understand and still couldn’t put together in his head as of yet. He smiled and drank his hard Akalak whiskey and nodded.

“I know another like you….from the Denusk Pavallion, Sapphire Clan…yes Kavala.” He said as he shook his head some indicating that he was indeed not all well.

“I manage, it is good to see someone who I can…” He lowered his voice some “or think I can trust.” He then nodded and leaned back in his chair to take another drink of his mug. He was comfortably numb now and that was exactly where he needed to be after yesterday’s occurrences.

“I….” He then shook the thought off and sighed. It seemed he had something to say but even in a somewhat dazed state he knew better than to speak it out loud. No there were times and places for such things and here was definitely not the place…and it may not even be the time for such things.

So he brushed it off and just laughed stupidly to himself as he then grew very somber and serious. “I see you came here on your own will…it’s refreshing that someone didn’t pick you out of the ruins of an Akalak raiding party and slap a silver bracelet on your wrist….a welcome change to the usual.” He said taking another stout drink as he closed his eyes and shook the bite of the whiskey off as he then sighed some more.

“Refreshing indeed.” He was unaware of the other Dryka man, he had his back to the man and well his attention was tunneling a little….as was his vision. He could feel his reflexes becoming a little more lax. Was this what it felt to be on the way of drinking yourself into a stupor? This….now this was refreshing. In this state his mind shut off and he found that he could concentrate on ONLY ONE THING! Oh the wonderfulness of that aspect. All the happenings around him no longer berated his mind endlessly, he could hardly concentrate on a few things at once. And well the rest didn’t matter to him.

“Mmmmmmmm….” The sound escaped his body as he relaxed.

“Nice to meet you Wyndivere….such a pretty name….” He ran a hand though his hair and tried to gather himself.

“Better than my name….I made it up after I escaped my captors….I can’t remember my name…besides seven…but that isn’t a name now is it? No It is a number.”

'So open', she thought. Serrif seemed willing to tell her his whole life's story if she asked. She wondered what was bothering him. Something obviously. She inclined her head as she wondered. Trust huh. An interesting assumption on his part. She was certainly trustworthy. But why did he assume so? But even though he saw her as trustworthy, his openness to a complete stranger put Wyndivere a little on guard and she found herself thinking things like, 'why is he here? what does he want from me?'She glanced up, and noticed the Drykas standing near by. Good. There would be someone to back her up should she need it. And Solicah would be here soon. She would watch her back, of course, but she saw that as no reason not to continue her conversation. Perhaps there was more here than just a sorrowfull man, finding comfort in a glass.

"I am also from the Sapphire Clan" she said with a smile, "How is your friend Kavala? Do you spend much time in the sea of grass? Or does she spend much time here? Don't worry. You can trust me. I am a trustworthy sort, but I'm not sure you should be so quick to trust strangers. But perhaps you have an eye and an intuition for such things. I don't mean to smother you with questions all of a sudden, but I'll just get it all out and let you sort through it." She smirked. somehow she felt like she ought to be cheering this man up. "How common is it that people come here against their will? And... no.. I have more questions. but if I ask too many you won't remember them all."

Her mind was in a comfortable place. A place for small talk and pleasantries. The gravity of his words and mannerisms had yet to strike her. But it would soon.

Desmus was close enough to the two to know that they were not very close by the tone of their voices and their body language, but he was too far away to really hear what was being said by them. Desmus was not normally this interested in the buisness of others, maybe being with these others recently made him yurn for interaction more or maybe his waa just lonely.

Desmus caught himself starring at the Dryka girl and quickly caught himself and turned away. She seemed familliar to him. He might have seen her in Endrykas or traveling the plains. Her beauty however was very common to him. It was one that all Dryka women possesed, even though this one was young. He then turned to the man. He was uncommon to Desmus. He had the marks of a hard man but the air around him seemed lighter. Desmus wished to learn more about these people.

He found himself starring at the girl again , but instead of turning away he continued looking. He took another drink as his mind began to wonder.

He nodded and spoke to her in a very low hushed voice. “Kavala would be doing better if she wasn’t being forced to bear the children of these men.” He backed away to let that settle in her stomach as he took another drink and then noticed something was wrong.

There was no more burning sensation in his throat or mouth. No….what was going on was he really that numb already? He looked into the mug and noticed that there was nothing left. This would’ve been an issue if he wasn’t so caught up in conversation. He laughed and set the mug down as he sighed.

“That is what the silver and gold bracelets are about Wyndivere. They are Nakivaks, bound by law to birth one, two maybe even three children to pay off some debt these men think the women owe them.” His tone was serious and somewhat disgusted indicating he wasn’t only telling the truth, but he hated the reality of the situation before him.

He shrugged and then shook his head. “But I know something…something these hunters do not. There is another caravan coming through the grasslands. And I’m going to get to it before they do. Because I know where it is going through…roughly.” He was obviously proud of himself as he smiled and nodded.

But after he realized he said that he seemed to almost want to take the words back. “But don’t a soul. The Akalaks will want to slap bracelets on all the women because they rescued them. I ask what kind of a rescue is that? Where you move from one slavery to another?” It was a somewhat simple yet profound question coming from a man she didn’t know. But the sincerity in his eyes told her several things.

He would die on his feet doing this, even if he had to do it alone. “I always wanted an opportunity to die on my feet for something I believe in.” The words sounded more like a spare thought that just escaped his mouth than anything else. This was a broken man who was fighting himself. But one thing was for sure. He had made up his mind and this wasn’t a whim. He had thought this through, even if he hadn’t accounted for all of the variables.

Wyndivere stared at Serrif silently for a moment. Her face expressionless as she soaked in his words. His tone. His body language. Then her face became serious and she was no longer just a young girl relaxing in a bar after a long days work. Now she was her father's daughter. And this was important.

"You're going to brave the Sea of Grass? Alone? That's a death wish. How do you plan to do that? How will you know where you're going?"

She glanced over at the Drykas man with her serious face and met his gaze, then returned her focuss to Serrif. "My second cousin Solicah Moondirge will be here soon. He's a webber. Perhaps we could help."

Desmus could hold his tounge no longer. He finished his drink and sat the glass down.with a loud thump before standing and taking a step towards the man and the girl. "Tell me outlander, have you ever seen what a flock of glassbeaks can do to a man. Think of the pain of having your very lifeblood drained while you watch as your eaten alive. Death however isn't the worst part of the great Sea of Grass. The creatures of the plains are easy to spot if you pay attention, but even the most expert hunter cannot spot the flying hordes of Zith that prey on the weak."

Desmus looked at him with stern eyes. He did not intend to insult.this man, UT his.lack of knowledge and brazen aattitude would.get him killed here.

Dagorain approached the tavern sluggishly. He had been traveling long but it was not the heavy forge that weigh him down but heavy thoughts, guilt, and sorrow that had worn down the strong Isur. As he neared the entrance heated conversation met him before he touched the door.

He pushed it aside and immediately noticed the source of the "disagreement." He sighed and sat a couple of tables away, alone. He dropped the portable forge at his back and it landed with torrent of metal meeting stone. "Sorry `bout that." Dagorain decided to wait for the bustle to die down before he order his drink, so he nestled into the chair and tried to settle into a decent mood.
