Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Septimus swears by her life that someone's either following her or is behind her for some reason. But then again, she could just be paranoid. Or not.

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Winter 3, 511

Septimus stopped in her tracks then whirled around. The deer that had charged her finally stopped. She snorted then shook her mane. Was that a stream she heard? Finally! I could use some water. She took a step but her hoof was caught in a thorn bush. She tugged it free, then jumped over it and headed towards the sound of drippling water. She snorted and intensely looked for the source when finally she found it. A small stream, about two of her hooves wide, was running down the slanted hill. She stretched her neck out then bent her head over and took a long drink of the flowing water.

As long as no is poison coming from upstream, I'm fine. she thought jokingly. -Crack!- The noise broke the silence instantly. Was is the deer again? Was that even a deer that was chasing me? No, I'm sure of it. I saw it! It had antlers and everything. Ok, so maybe the first time it was a deer charging her. But that didin't make sense. Why would a deer charge her? Territorial reasons? She shook her head. Was that even possible?

A million things raced through her mind. You've been warned about this before, Septimus! To watch your back in the woods when you were alone and in horse form! Tons of people would be more than happy to catch you and take you as a prize to sell! She snorted then whipped her head around. She was ready.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Postby Aello on February 6th, 2012, 11:55 pm

A stick snapped beneath Aello's step, causing her eyes to clench shut as each of her muscles went rigid. Petch, she thought, frustrated by her own clumsiness, at the thought that she had more than likely given her position away to the deer she had been tracking for the last several chimes. A deer, she had liked to think, had not yet known of her presence within the forest.

As she clenched her teeth, her grip tightened around her bow. Her eyes fluttered open, allowing the sun's rays to fly directly into them. Make them sting. Drawing her teeth against each other, Aello raised her leg, pulling her foot off the stick. She listened to it crinkling as she pulled back. The parted edges, the jagged ends, sighing as they escaped her. Crumbling into themselves as she gingerly lowered her foot back down on the nearby ground.

If you cost us our dinner, there will be no forgiving you, Aello thought, as she glared at the stick, and then down at her feet a moment, before moving on. Following the gentle curve of the tracks. The outer line. The hooves around a series of trees, before coming to a halt. She thought she could hear water rushing off in the distance, but she wasn't sure. Shrugging, she thought it a good idea to search for the source of the sound, knowing that the creature would have to stop and rest. Get a drink soon enough, before it wore on.

Forcing herself onwards, the aurist moved in relative silence for a time, until she did happen upon the source of the sound. A slender stream, which meandered across the forest floor. Stopping against a tree, the girl scanned its length, but found no sign of the deer. Only a horse. A rather large one, with dark and light fur. My my, doesn't that seem out of place? A horse without a rider... a horse without so much as a bit of tack at its side. A saddle.

Aello forced her side into the bark as her grip tightened around her bow, and her magic came to life. Instantly, the forest lit up. Especially around the horse. The horse too, sprang to life, in a vibrant red, shadowed by the figure of a woman. A lean woman, tall it seemed. But that may have simply been a stretch of the light. So you are not as you seem, Aello thought, as she studied the forms, gleaned what she could, and whisked her magic away with an impatient flick of her wrist. What a surprise...

oocSorry for the long wait. School is a pain in the ass.

Septimus turned her head slightly to the corner then took a few steps sideways and saw what she thought was a small girl. She snorted then lowly nickered a bit making the girl aware of her presence. She lowered her head towards the ground, nibbled some grass, then nickered once more. She then raised her at the girl once more. She hated having horse vision in human and horse form. It annoyed her bg time. She could noly see clearly for 20 feet, but beyond that it was blurry. She shook her mane and flank then returned to her stout position eaminign the girl from a distance away.

She shifted her weight to her right side and rested her hind foot on the ground comfortably.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

"And here I thought you'd take a little longer to look up and find me," Aello commented as she eased herself off the tree's bark. Feeling like a rough edge had just been torn away from her as she righted herself. "Pity," Aello added, as she ran her tongue over the roof of her mouth, producing a low clicking sound. But no matter, it simply means that the fun is going to begin, and a little sooner than expected...

The aurist's eyes sparkled as she allowed her tongue to run over the roof of her mouth one last time, before pulling it away, and returning it to a more natural position. A small smirk crossed her pale lips as she studied the horse's features. The dark fur. The long mane. Swishing tail. Large hooves. Septimus seemed a far more powerful horse than any she had ever seen, although, Aello doubt that made her a very agile thing.

Shrugging as she eased herself closer; stepping lightly over the terrain, Aello came to a halt several feet in front of the horse. Deciding it best to see if Septimus approached her, so as not to spook it. Or make it charge, or something of the like. "But now that you know, you may as well say hello, I know you're more than capable of completing such a simple task," Aello called, chuckling a little as the words left her lips.

OOCIt's quite alright.

Septimus' ears flickered back and forth anylizing her surroundings. I don't think she's going to cause any harm as long as I don't try anything. She nickered once more then took a few steps back and reared with a whinny. But the rear was short lived as well as the whinny. She shook her mane then cautiosly approached the girl. She held her head high until the last step in which she lowered her head to the girl's height showing she meant no harm. Not shifting yet. I'll be defenseless if I do.

Scanning the trees she snorted then sighed. She lifted her hoof up then looked below at the hoofprint. She made sure her hoof was placed in the exact same spot. He reyes were soon directed back at the girl.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Postby Aello on February 23rd, 2012, 12:01 am

Aello's lips curled all the more as the horse approached her. Her eyes shimmered as she slowly, raised her right hand, bringing it directly beneath the creature's flaring nostrils. There, there, don't be afraid now. Don't go backing yourself into a wall, the aurist thought, as she studied the dark expanse of the horse's eyes. The way they reflected the line of trees, that surrounded them in every which direction. They seemed a dark brown shade now, as opposed to a pitiful black coal, with the occasional golden streak, courtesy of the sun.

After waiting another moment, Aello pressed the tips of her fingers together, and brought her hand forward. She pressed her fingertips lightly against Septimus' nose. Slowly, moving it upwards, and allowing her palm to settle on her soft fur too. She could feel the warmth that radiated off of it. The slight trembling of the horse's form, besides, perhaps an effect of its breathing, or even the cold. Its attempts at keeping itself warm.

"You see love?" Aello asked. "You have nothing to fear, for you're among friends. A safer section of the Wildlands. Normally kept so inhospitable and cold, it's a real wonder that anything at all manages to thrive." The girl paused a moment, noticing how the horse's eyes seemed to shift, wondering, if at all, Septimus still felt somewhat uncomfortable.

Smiling radiantly, Aello's hand trailed up the horse's nose, to its middle. Not wanting to go any further, for it may stretch her out somewhat awkwardly, Aello's hand stopped. She scrunched up her hand a little, allowing her fingers to gently dig into the horse's fur. She pushed them back out, scratching Septimus' nose a little, hoping it didn't seem all that peculiar a practice.

"Even those that are more than as they present themselves," Aello added, as a sort of small afterthought, as she pulled her right hand back down the length of Septimus' snout. Her eyes trailing to the horse's two front legs, as she considered how long it would be before each slipped into their skin. Allowed the other to truly see what they were.

Aello's fingertips idly danced over the length of soft, cropped fur. It's time, she thought, with a small smile, as she pulled her fingers away, and returned her hand to her side. Allowing it to dangle close to where the dagger was kept. The cool metal seeping into her skin. Chilling her to the bone. She took a step back and surveyed the horse. Her eyes gliding over every inch of her majestic form. "Surely you know what that means," Aello whispered, as her grip tightened around her father's old bow.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

At the slight touch, Septimus' ears flickered backwards then forward. Her horse instincts took over and she soon found herself enjoying being petted. She opened her eyes wider Your letting your guard down, Septimus. Septimus soon became more wary of her surroundings and especially the girl. Do not trust those whom you do not know. her mother's words echoed through her head.

When the girl spoke, she spoke kind words. But that made Septimus trust the girl no more. She took a few steps back. When the girl spoke of friends Septimus couldn't help but think Yeah, and like there's no murder in Mizihar either, right? She became even more uncomfortable at the thought. Your guards is lowering. Raise it! she commanded herself.

When the girl scratched her nose she wanted to nudge the girl a thanks, but there was something that just seemed... off. Usually when someone comes across something valuable they sell it. What makes this girl any different? She watched as the girl examined her legs. Watch this one. she thought. Then her words struck her She knows! Probably magic, no doubt! Do not morph! You are then defenseless!

Septimus narrowed her eyes. Even in horse form it would be recognizable. If she wasn't so defenseless and she had her knife on her, she would morph. But since all she had was fists in human form, and teeth, she wasn't going to let this girl sucker her into morphing. She simply pinned her ears back then nodded her head with a bright and sarcastic grin as if to say Of coarse I knw what you mean! You think I'm stupid or something?

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Postby Aello on February 23rd, 2012, 4:27 am

Aello ran her tongue over the roof of her mouth again, as she studied the horse's grin. The way her lips seemed to glide over the large, yellow-tinted squares, glistening wherever the sun's light hit. She could sense her gaze narrowing as she studied the horse's eyes too. The way everything didn't seem to add up. Even though, she didn't have her sight to guide her thoughts for the moment, the girl couldn't help but feel as though something was wrong. Not with their setting; their surroundings, but within he mind of the horse. The creature she was merely trying to be kind to.

The aurist's brow furrowed as her eyes trailed back to the horse's lips. The horse's nostrils flaring, as she released puffs of silver mist. Aello could sense her breathing deepening in a way, as though she were nervous, or perhaps extremely cold, and was trying to keep it in check. Trying to make sure that it went unnoticed. "You're afraid? Aren't you?" Aello asked. "Your heart filled with unease, with mistrust, because you know what you are. Your worth. That many covet your soul. Your spirit, and the single ability that all of your kind possess. Not necessarily because they wish to be something else, but because they wish to hide. From time to time; to wear another face. Have yet another mask to hide their cruelty behind."

Aello sighed. "Perhaps it is wise, to feel as you do, for it keeps you safe. But, there is no need to keep your guard up, not now. Not when we both know what you are, and now you know, for certain that you're not the only one..."

Aello's voice trailed off for a time, as she tilted her head to the side. "There are a few of your kind that travel alongside me. Close friends. If you don't believe a word, listen, maybe you could hear them. Sense them around here, somewhere." Aello paused, as she took a moment to close her eyes. To study the beating of her own heart, and the mental picture of her Kelvic companion's faces. After a moment, she pointed south. "That direction, if I had to guess," she added, before dropping her hand to her side. Before opening her eyes to see if the horse was still there. Having been too distracted by her thoughts to listen and hear if it had turned tail and run.

The girl shook her head lightly. "Perhaps we could find them together. Come, if you wish to see what I mean," Aello whispered, as she glided past. Moving through the forest with ease. "For if we don't find them, there is always Yune. Another companion, but only a bird, not of your kind." The aurist smiled weakly as she moved along, wondering if she was foolish for turning her back on something. For the creature could always charge. But then again, she supposed, she would hear it coming. If not sense the rumbling of the world beneath her feet. Threatening to split open, and swallow her whole.

Or perhaps, that was simply, mere exaggeration.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Postby Septimus on February 24th, 2012, 11:30 pm

Septimus' eyes narrowed at her as she began to walk away. Others, hmm? This move could be tricky. But surely this girl was speaking the truth for she wouldn't have turned her back on her. She must've known that Septimus could charge right? That she could rear and crush her bones with one buck? Either this girl was speaking the truth or she was beyond foolish. So if she was foolish, Septimus could then deal with her if needed. Septimus' ears went back, pinned against her head once more.

I could speak to these others and get their opinion on this. Horses' word and code of honor, right? That's what the two horses at her old home had said. But that was if there were other horse Kelvics. Could she really trust this girl? This... human? They could lie, they could murder, and it made them so hard to trust one another.

Fine, I'll go. But one suspicious move and... she made a half cough half choke sound in her thoughts. She grinend at the girl, ears still pinned back, and her narrowed eyes became planning narrowed eyes. She didn't expect this human to suspect anything, but if she could tell she was a Kelvic, then anything was possible. Right?

She went into a slow walk and began walking behind the girl, observing everything around her for any source of magic. Magic. She then thought for a moment So that's how she could tell.

Someone's Behind Me (Aello)

Postby Aello on February 25th, 2012, 4:31 pm

Aello glanced over her shoulder to find Septimus trotting behind her, and smiled weakly. Her eyes glimmered as she turned herself back around, forcing herself to concentrate on the two animal forms of her companions. First, the dark haired wolf, with golden eyes. His fur long grown out now, with the season. Matted with blood and dirt, for they never seemed to find enough time to get it truly clean. She imagined how it felt beneath the tips of her fingers; soft, plush, and warm. Yet, tangled, as though a Alenias' nest grew there. She imagined the blue jay next. Her bright blue feathers, coupled with tufts of snow white around her face, and underbelly. Her beady black eyes, her tiny black beak. Smiling to herself, as she pictured them, the aurist could feel the bond between them strengthening. Alerting her to their general whereabouts, several paces away from where she was now leading the horse Kelvic.

"Nex seems to be veering off from where Alenias was before," Aello whispered, as the invisible string that bound them rippled. Humming silently, a tune that only she could hear, denoting that Nex was padding along. She assumed he was looking for something. Hunting, or perhaps going off to find a place to rest, she couldn't be absolutely certain. But, should the first hold true, she thought it best not to go after him, with a horse in tow. She imagined the string then, that tied her to Alenias, tugging on her. Drawing it closer to her companion. She could sense the girl flying towards her, and assumed she was with Yune, more than likely just stretching her wings, or trying to find the last, frozen over berries of the season for a snack. "We'll go after her then. She has been bonded to me for a greater period of time. It makes it easier to find her, sometimes, when we're apart."

The woman paused a moment, considering her words, before shrugging and heading onwards. Stepping over fallen branches, and patches of frost to reach her destination. "Alenias is also the friendlier of the two," Aello added with a chuckle. "So perhaps, it would be best to meet her first anyway." Again, she smiled weakly to herself, although the horse would be none the wiser, as she moved along for a time, before looking up at the sky. She could hear chirping off in the distance, and if she looked through the spider web the tree's barren branches cast, she could see a dot of light brown. Yune, Aello thought, as she pointed up at the sky, alerting the horse to the bird's presence. Surely Alenias isn't far behind. Not when I can feel her... like this.

The string seemed to hum more insistently. Begging the girl pay attention. She scanned the sky, taking in every inch for a time, until a small, blue bird dipped in its flight, and darted towards the sparrow. The sparrow chirped in fright, as the blue jay darted past its wing. Frightfully close. "Alenias, would you stop frightening poor Yune!" Aello called, causing the bird to come out of its dive, and to simply fly through the branches. Weaving in and out, the sparrow following in a frenzied pursuit. "Come say hello to our new friend! You always said you wanted to meet a horse love, why not now?" she called up the bird, causing it to chirp merrily as it darted past her ear and away.

Aello watched it go. Listened to the cord's hum dying down as the bird was carried away. Aello sighed. "Well that was Alenias, although, she doesn't seem to be in the mood for initial meetings right now," the aurist whispered, before glancing up at the sky, towards Yune, who had seemed to lose her trail. "Yune! Come here love! Come meet this stranger," Aello instructed, causing the bird to swivel around, and settle on the clenched fist the girl had left out for her, to perch upon.

"That's a good girl," Aello whispered, as she raised the chirping sparrow to her lips, and planted a delicate kiss on her head, before pulling her away, and holding her out at the horse's side. "This is Yune. My companion, and close friend to Alenias. Surely, you don't need to be told that those alike can speak with themselves. Or rather, amongst themselves." Aello paused, taking a moment to study the horse's eyes. What they seemed to hold. Yet, as she looked, she wasn't so sure she could truly, with confidence, pick anything apart. But that, she supposed, was what her magic was for. She called it to her instantly, hoping it would be enough to gage where this situation was headed.

"So what do you think of her?" Aello asked. "She's quite nice. Wouldn't mind picking the bugs off your coat if you'd let her," she added, thinking it a nice touch, at least, to the mind of a horse.
