Basic Information
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Birthday: Spring 48, 495 AV
Height: 5'0
Weight: 82lbs

Appearance :
Malnutrition has taken its toll on the young girl’s growth and development. She stands not an inch above five feet and sports thin limbs that seem breakable as twigs, skin clinging tightly to bone and wiry muscle. For the most part, the loose clothing she wears conceals the true starkness of her condition; the disquieting jut of her hips and pronounced line of ribs. Her face is sharpened into hard lines and abrupt angles by years of deprivation, living off of stolen bread and scraps tossed her way in rare moments of generosity. Her hair is a mousy brown (though if it were clean, it might take on a more honey colored saturation), chopped ragged and short, as if with a pair of blunt, rusted shears. A thin, almost unnoticeable scar cuts across her left cheekbone, the product of an early childhood mishap (an unchecked look cast in the wrong direction). If there’s anything that might still physically convey the nature of her young age, it’s her eyes; large and circular, irises soft and warm like half melted chocolate.

Concept :
Coriander, though physically quite weak, is strong in spirit. To say whether this trait is a merit or a flaw is highly circumstantial. Her determination has kept her alive, but her inclination to blind confidence (without the strength to back it up) has gotten her into a mess of sticky situations. Growing up in the city of anarchy has taught her pride, but fortunately she’s also learned, with difficulty, when to hold her tongue, lest it be cut out. She’s prone towards scathing remarks with those whom she thinks (or knows) will let her get away with it. She's easily frustrated and annoyed by a vast number of little things. Hungry people can be quite irritable. Coriander is always hungry.

She possesses the strong prejudice towards magical beings that is common in the city. The cynicism practically trademarked by the population of Sunberth has not escaped her either; she lowers her guard slowly and gives her loyalty sparingly.

Despite Coriander’s tough attitude, if it comes down to fight or flight, she will flee without hesitation. She’s hyper aware that she can’t hold her own when it comes to blows and her perpetual caution has manifested in the way that she carries herself; leaning forward on the balls of her feet, arms extended slightly at her sides, like a small bird on the cusp of lift off. She treads softly and quietly, moving with a fluid sort of grace. Not only is she disposed to escape, she’s good at it-- well, good enough to have survived thus far. She has been pushed into many positions that required either quick feet or fast talking and, while she has grown to be a bit persuasive, her brashness typically hinders her when she tries to settle things with a silver tongue that she doesn't possess. For that reason, she prefers tucking her head and slinking by unnoticed-- slipping away into the twisting, shadowed alleyways when danger presents itself.

Those who would think Coriander’s life of petty crime or the fact that she is bereft of parents have caused her a tragic mindset would be wrong. Dwelling on things in the past, which are beyond your control, results in a lack of awareness to things in the now, which you might be able to control. In Sunberth, this form of crippled perception leads quickly to death. Perhaps the fact that misfortune is the norm in the mining city numbs the sting, as well. So, it is that orphanhood is a concept as familiar and natural to her as her own name, and given just as much thought in her day to day life. Still, as much as Coriander parades independence, her entire life she has relied on (and continues to rely on) others to protect her. Had she not had the fortune to stumble into the small gang of street urchins and their harsh ringleader, she certainly would have died of starvation-- or worse-- many years ago. Dependency isn’t something she would ever admit to out loud, but it’s an essential part of her survival.

Through growing up in Sunberth, Coriander has also come to view femininity as, not exactly a weakness itself, but an encumbrance. Evil men are drawn to women like moths to a flame. She’s heard the stories and she’s seen them, too. As a result, she’s adopted the habit of dressing in baggy men’s clothes and wearing her hair short. It isn’t necessarily a ploy to deceive people (more of a precaution that’s useful only at a distance)-- anyone with half a brain can easily tell her gender from her voice, if not her face-- but if someone is dense enough to mistake her as a young boy, she certainly won’t correct them. Needless to say, her demeanor isn't very 'ladylike'.

Even though Coriander has a stronger sense of maturity than a child raised under more sheltered circumstances, even though she tends to act as if she is the epitome of adult wisdom and understanding and all that is high and superior, she still has a lot of growing up to do. Her childish naivety and innocence bleeds into her mannerisms, the way she speaks and the things she says. It's quite obvious in some of the beliefs and dreams she holds.

Namely, her newfound goal to travel to Syliras.

History
An Impromptu Family :
Coriander’s early childhood is a slew of fragmented, faded memories. They are wispy and undefined, slipping through her fingers like fine grains of sand. She can only grasp fleeting bits and pieces; a woman’s soft voice slurring a lullaby, a man’s calloused fingertips brushing her cheeks, the scent of smoke, the taste of cider. Something happened-- a broken flash, a blurred smattering of red-- and she was alone. She wandered the streets for maybe a day or two (and thinking back on it now, it’s a miracle she had lasted that long) before she found him. Or he found her, she isn’t sure which.

“Lost, little girl?” he had asked greasily, lips twisted into a grin that was more of a sneer. She was tired and hungry, cold and scared. He offered her a stale chunk of bread and a deceptively warm hand to hold.

His name was Rem, and he was one of the lesser evils in Sunberth. He had a shoddy lean-to in the slums, where he housed several scraggly, wayward children like herself. Juneth, Mitch, Leroy, and Curtis were their names. In exchange for a place to rest their heads and someone older and stronger than themselves to look out for them, they served Rem as pickpockets and beggars and small time thieves. Sleeping practically on top of each other in a cramped room, scouring the streets, splitting meals, fighting and laughing and living; she grew to love and trust those four children.

Rem was far from kind and he was neither a respected nor an intimidating character in Sunberth. In reality, he was nothing more than a scoundrel on a power trip, playing syndicate with a handful of orphans-- but he offered them protection enough to give them the edge they needed for a chance at survival, and he was committed to keeping them alive and free. At least, committed enough to buy Coriander back when she had been captured by slavers. Of course, he had beaten her savagely and dropped her food rations to almost nonexistent until she had managed to recover the difference, but that was preferable to a life of slavery. It never crossed her mind that she might have been a slave still.

It wasn’t until she was almost eleven that she realized the real orphanage was just down the street, a place safer and warmer than most. She could have gone there, if she wished. She could have traded in her life under the subtle tyranny of Rem for something just a little simpler, but she was unsettled by the blank, hollowed eyes of the orphans and the pathetic resignation she saw in them. They didn't have the same freedom as her, the same offbeat sense of family. By that time she had developed a loyalty and kind of warped affection towards Rem. Call it Stockholm syndrome if you would, but it was what it was.

All in all, Coriander was content with the life she had. Happy, even. The next five years played out haphazard and at times violent, but livable. A dash of danger and dysfunction could be quite enjoyable.

Then Juneth was murdered, Rem went off the handle, the world flipped upside down, and Coriander overheard talk of a city far to the west where there was law and order and children weren’t slaughtered in the streets.

Stationary and Flashback NPCs (for my own reference) :
ImageBasic Information
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 39 (DECEASED)
Birthday: Autumn 87, 472 AV
Height: 5'11
Weight: 196lbs

Rem is angry and manipulative and, more often than not, drunk. He's a somewhat massive man (with a gut full of ale), but he isn't very intimidating compared to others in the city of Sunberth. Even the orphans learn this as time wears on. It's hard to tell what his true intention are; whether he actually cares about the children or views them as nothing more than pawns. He has random moments of almost kindness, enough to endear him to the kids.

Skills: 25 Brawling, 20 Persuasion, 5 Intimidation

Strangely tall despite a life of malnutrition, Leroy is all bone and wirey muscle. He's smart, good with words, and magnificent at lying. As result, he's in charge of buying things, pawning stolen valuables, conning and gambling. He makes frequent excursions to the library, having taught himself to read. He acts as a makeshift teacher for the others, with varying levels of success. When relaxed, he tends to talk in flat, clipped sentences that often sound disinterested or commanding.

Skills: 15 Rhetoric, 10 Intelligence,
10 Gambling, 5 Leadership, 5 Impersonation, 5 Negotiation

People often compare Curtis to a dog; feircely loyal and protective, but incredibly dumb. He's a klutz, always tripping and dropping things, and he's not the brightest color in the palette. He's generally good natured and likes to help people when he can. His goofy, dopey demeanor causes people to trust him quickly or disregard him as a threat, which is why he usually acts as a distraction for the others. He's stockier than the rest of them; more heavily muscled. Despite his size and physical competency, he's a pushover.

Skills: 20 Brawling, 10 Bodybuilding, 10 Wrestling, 10 Unarmed Combat

Small, delicate, and caring, Juneth is the epitome of femininity (and pretty much the exact opposite of Coriander). She's patient and understanding, but lacks any real sense of humor. She's naive in the sense that she believes deep down nobody wants to be cruel. She's not good at deciet or theft, so she works as a beggar. She's also in charge of handling food. Rem shows extreme favoritism towards her. Everyone shows favoritism towards her, really.

Skills: 20 Begging, 10 Food Preservation, 10 Cooking,
5 Sewing, 5 Singing

Mitch is quirky and curious, some would even say eccentric. A lot of times, the others have trouble understanding his oddball logic and vast imagination. He's mischievious and boundlessly energetic, always landing himself in some kind of trouble. He has a way with locks, so he handles anything that involves breaking and entering. He deviates between long periods of silence and short bursts of extensive chattering. He draws somewhat fanatically with whatever he can find on any surface available.

Liaison Intervention
Hello!

I’m Ghost, and I’m a Character Sheet Liaison. I’m here to help others with their Character Sheets and the Lore.

I’ve noticed that you don’t have a house. If you choose to start without a house, you get 500 additional gold mizas. It’s fine if you don’t want that money – being poor kind of makes sense, considering your PC’s background story, but I thought I’d remind you, just in case.
