25th Day of Winter 511 A.V.

Mattathias had spent the past few days cleaning his apartment while waiting on word from the University on whether or not they intended to hire him as a Teacher's Aide. He spent various times of the day taking breaks from his house cleaning to explore the old city and reminisce about things remembered as a child.

One thing he had not had in quite some time was a good glass of wine. His wineskin had gone empty on his journey from Riverfall to Zeltiva and no where along the way had keg of it to refill his skin. He merely had assumed that since both Riverfall and Zeltiva were coastal cities that trade existed between the two. An assumption he learned was quite wrong.

Mattathias had entered the Kelp Bar hoping for a good draw of alcohol. What the bartender placed in front of him was as green as the marshes and as smelly as dead fish. No, even dead fish smelled a bit better than this. He spent time looking at the mug, then back at the bartender. This went on for a few minutes until the bartender walked away shaking his head.

Mattathias began to wonder if Zeltiva had sworn off alcohol and this was there way to make it happen. Looking around at the other patrons though, he realized they actually drank this stuff. He shrugged and decided to take it over to a table where he could merely observe the locals.

Matty was wearing his travelers clothes: pants, long sleeved shirt, and vest; but had the physical semblances of a local. Easy to pull off considering his parents were Zeltivans, and he had been raised here until he was fifteen years old.

Matty set the brew on an empty table and took a seat. He leaned forward in his chair and looked at the green beer once again. Some of the locals at the table next to him began laughing "Com' on an take a swig. It'll put hair on yer chest!" Matty turned to them and smiled. There was nothing wrong with a good ribbing even if it was at his own expense.

He picked up the mug, held it towards the jovial table next to him as if to say 'cheers', and took a swig. The expression on his face spoke volumes as the table of onlookers next to him only began to laugh louder. By the gods what was this stuff ???

A bar?

She had never been inside one of these but she had heard many people flocked them and if people flocked them then there must be something of great interest going on inside of it. Humans seemed to enjoy doing the strangest things and her thoughts were only proven truer as a man stumbled out, looking quite worse for the wear, especially considering it was only midday.

Curiouser and Curiouser. The things they did, did they all enjoy making fools of themselves? She watched the man fall on his face and skittered away from him, apparently they did.

Bracing herself she strode towards the bar, being jostled by patron exiting and entering alike and stumbling in. Her gaze took in the room, dank with few windows, heady with the smell of the ocean. And not the good, sweet breeze either, but the sweaty, decaying kind that came from people hard at work and cramped into one place. For her it reminded her of the time she spent on boat. Not exactly pleasant but it brought an odd sense of familiarity.

But familiarity did not tell her where to sit. Humans were very picky about that, she had found that upon entering the last food establishment that you could not sit wherever you liked, in fact, some people outright would scold you for it. Why? She was not sure. It was another question on her ever growing list. Ndale’s attention though was caught by another obvious ‘outsider’, someone who looked comfortable enough but judging by the remarks being tossed his way he was no regular. Though he did look the part, a Zeltivian sailor all the way but maybe he did not frequent bars any more than she did.

Wandering over she debated sitting with him or finding an empty table, there were not many but it was better than having the shrill yelling’s pierce her ears. But the debate was quickly settled, she would never figure out humans if she did not interact with them. She made almost as if to pass his table, calling the bartender softly and having many offer to buy her a drink, to which she only tilted her head curiously before taking a seat across from the man.

She sat just in time to watch the man sip the drink and then stare at in mild horror, his face scrunching unpleasantly and when her own drink was placed in front of her she eyes it warily.

“It does not taste good?” She questioned him, raising her eyes to his.

" By the By but this stuff tastes rancid!" He exclaimed to all near by which brought on further roars of laughter from the table next to him. He was about to turn and joke along with them when a voice collected his presence. Coming to sit in front of him was a young female.

Not really all that young considering he wasn't much older. She appeared to be between the 16 to 19 year mark while he looked 19 to 20ish. He did not reply right away but offered a warm smile as he took the moment to assess the lass in front of him.

She had very pale skin and white hair to follow with dazzling red eyes. Exquisite! She was small in frame and uniquely attractive for anyone who liked the pale, white look. The fact that she took up seat at his table was a bit confusing considering he was but a normal fellow. Not ugly but he would never consider himself attractive either. he always figured that a woman would desire him for his intellect far more than his appearance. Yet here the lass sat with an inquisitive look that made him feel like she actually wanted to talk to him. Who was he to deny such an innocent look.

"Well having spent a few years working the vineyards of Riverfall and taking of delectable spirits of wine from their stock, this stuff is atrocious. Though with no experimentation to back my hypothesis up, this may very well be the worst brew I've ever tasted."

I would dare say take a swig for yourself since you have ordered a pint, and make judgement for yourself. I cannot imagine how anyone would find this stuff soothing though."

He looked into her eyes once more and could not help but wonder of what race she could be to have such eyes. Other than a knowing of what races were out there, and the obvious racial differences that were held by some races, the more humanistic races he did not have the knowledge to distinguish between. But if more of those races looked like her, he might be more keen on learning about ...

"My name is Mattathias. And you might be?" he asked with a soft and pleasant smile.

OOCI'm so sorry for the delay, I had originally been waiting for others to join and then it fell to the bottom of my thread list! But it's up now ^-^

"Well having spent a few years working the vineyards of Riverfall and taking of delectable spirits of wine from their stock, this stuff is atrocious. Though with no experimentation to back my hypothesis up, this may very well be the worst brew I've ever tasted."

His words only made partial sense to the young woman, she knew Riverfall was a city and she was hardly fool enough not to know wine but what in Mizahar’s name was a vineyard? Still she nodded, her curiosity pulling her mind in too many directions at once for her to honestly question him.

“I would dare say take a swig for yourself since you have ordered a pint, and make judgement for yourself. I cannot imagine how anyone would find this stuff soothing though."

Well, it must mean that while not tasteful it did…what exactly was it supposed to do? Shrugging she gripped the mug in both hands and tipped it back, chugging it down in one swing. Though not without a bit of sputtering and near choking. A bit of good nature cajoling followed her fiasco.

“Well done, Lass!” Another of the green drinks was thrust in front of her, she really did not wish to drink it again but last time she had refused a drink she had been not-so-politely informed that it was not…polite to decline foods given. “Another! And cheers!”

Once more swinging it back Ndale downed the second mug of kelp, shivering violently at the taste before once more turning to face the man across from her.

“My name is Mattathias. And you might be?" He seemed so pleasant. More so today than usual, he brought a nice warmth into her belly that crept throughout her. Or was that the drink? Still she could not help but smile back, another green drink thrust into her hand which she seemed to sip without noticing.

“Ndale…Soromund.” She paused, unsure of what she was saying for a moment before continuing, “Vineyard. What is it? Is it a city?”

Continuing to down her third drink she looked at the concoction in mild surprise. Had it tasted like this a few moments ago? Huh. It almost tasted pleasing this time around. Leaning forward she waited for her companions answer, a startling change from her usual rapid fire questions. And stranger still she found her movements to be heavy as if weighed down and yet, she couldn't find the urge to be bothered about it.
